Lvl 1 in academy gear.

The metal soldier's charge grazes you.
Your shocking touch injures the metal soldier.
The metal soldier is covered with bleeding wounds.

Guess scavenging gear before doing the academy is now a necessity as well. Hrumph.

Guess scavenging gear before doing the academy is now a necessity as well. Hrumph.

I checked an archived copy of an Academy file which was downloaded in 2000 or so, and was written well before that.

Guess what NPC's combat stats are the same today as they were probably 13+ years ago?

And yes, the higher-level NPCs in the Academy do periodically kill level 1ish PCs. It takes a run of luck (and/or a headstart from the PC beginning while wounded), but it's always happened. If you want to further minimize that minimal risk, the consider command is your friend.

There's definately multiple things against him here. Not only is this an elf, it's a low level elf (invoker) I'm guessing, which means he has low hp, no defensive skills, and is attacking one of the hardest hitting mobs in the Academy.

Ultimately, this becomes another skill among CF...learning which mobs are ones that hurt a lot...but only if they can hit you and are not so bad w/ martial or heavily defensive characters, compared to mobs that might not hit very hard...but do so much more often, which might be better suited for giants, or magey-priesty types that often have better damreduction.
