2148, Question to Nep or Valk

Reading old transmuters logs and current ones I got a strong suspicions, their melee abilities have been nerfed in last few years. Is this true?

No

Why is a level 20 duergar warrior doing wounds in combat? Not for nothing, be he should really be doing caps damage, which I'm sure makes this fight look a lot different.

Sure, but it's not like the trans is using all the tools available to him that are useful for a fight like this either.

I feel like you're reading this log and saying: "I could have played that warrior better, so therefore this log doesn't show anything about how a trans can beat a warrior."

I don't know. Looking at this log I got the feeling the warrior was on the lower end of the equipment curve and the transmuter was on the higher end, and that these played as big a factor (or bigger) than anything else in the fight. That marble hand was his primary source of damage. That's not a transmuter spell.

>That

I knew that was going to come up, too.

In practice, any lowbie mage who really wants a chunk of marble can come up with one, just as any warrior who really wants a way to see invis can come up with one. I consider these things part of the landscape of PK at those levels, not something that can be separated from it.

That being said, in modern CF I don't think this fight would look dramatically different with Mental Jolt in its place.
2162, I tried to collect all of them once.

Had like 7 before I gave up.

Any thing happen if you get all of them (a simple yes or no answer will suffice)?
2163, RE: I tried to collect all of them once.
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Nope; essentially, without a quest running / immortal intervention you can never find all the pieces of the thing. I think you end up missing a torso or something.

There are still some indirect advantages to snarfing a lot of them up, but I don't think those advantages merit the weight.

Gear matters. Just like learning what to do when in pk, people have to learn where to go to get what too. It's a part of the learning curve.

"That being said, in modern CF I don't think this fight would look dramatically different with Mental Jolt in its place."

You're probably right.

2159, Not exactly....
Posted by Tac on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'm reading this log and saying: "Of course a mage can win this fight, the warrior is hitting for ####. Any melee character doing decent damage would have won too."

It's more a matter of, I believe you can pk at low ranks with mages, but I also believe that you have to choose your fights a lot more carefully and you just aren't going to stand up against that vet played warrior.

My experience is that this is true.

> and you just aren't going to stand up
>against that vet played warrior.

My experience is that this is not true in practice, but to be fair that's in part because the vet played warrior doesn't tend to take the low-mid level mage seriously enough until it's too late, because most of the people playing them are just trying to power through those levels and are easy meat.
