666, Couple more questions
Posted by Vandir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Hello
I got one question i wanted to ask from reading the long thread, and one unrelated question.
The first would be, Is your charecter's aging determined by ONLINE time, or does it keep aging if you don't play it also?

And the second would be, the hit and damage rolls, how exectly they work? I seen a sword that shows as worse than mine, and does less damage and hits less, but makes the rolls better. It's quite unclear to me how exectly the rolls work and how should i determine what is best piece of eq to go for.

And on unrelated note, though i played CF for short time and still am confused about most things in game, (and get killed every time i unhide :/ ), i became quite a fan of the game, and i like how both players and staff willingly helped me when i got stuck at something. Thank you.

Online time only.

And the second would be, the hit and damage rolls, how exectly they work? I seen a sword that shows as worse than mine, and does less damage and hits less, but makes the rolls better. It's quite unclear to me how exectly the rolls work and how should i determine what is best piece of eq to go for.

Well, the most basic thing to do is Compare the two weapons. That will let you gauge the which of the two weapons has a higher average damage.

To get more detail, you're need to Lore/Identify/Appraise/etc. the item. This will let you know what hit/dam/other modifiers are on the weapon, along with the actual average damage. In general, average is more desirable because of how it interacts with various skills- take a weapon with average 12 over one that is average 10 and gives +2 damage.

Also look at the weapon's level. Low-level characters wielding high-level weapons won't get the full benefits they offer. That high-level weapon might still be a good choice there, but the best way to do all of this is....

Test it out. You've already started doing this, but it's useful to try it against several opponents. For example, a particular foe might be hurt more by piercing attacks than slashing ones. If you test only against that one foe, you might get misleading answers.

The nice thing about testing it for yourself is that it saves a whole pile of the work mentioned above. Use Compare and whatever identification ability you have handy to get a rough guide, but this is where the real answer is going to come from. You don't have to weigh level against +damage against weapon average.... you stay with the one that hits hard in your hands. Who cares what the numbers say then? Some weapons may have abilities that aren't picked up by Identify as well, and you can figure them out through use too.

Ultimately, you'll find that no one weapon is the "best" in all situations. For example, if you're going to be fighting a dark-elf thief, that mithril staff might look a lot better than that iron sword. Fighting a shaman? They often try to weaken your strength to get weapons out of your hand, so maybe keeping something lightweight is a good idea. Etc.

...i became quite a fan of the game, and i like how both players and staff willingly helped me when i got stuck at something. Thank you.

Thanks!

Be sure to read the helpfiles on all your skills,
so you know what you can do with each ie ambush.

You may also want to check them for races, specifically.
It will give you a general overview of who to/not to trust.

For your given class though, I would suggest hiding as much
as possible. ESPECIALLY when strangers are near by.

So the rolls don't have much to do with the actual damage you do or with your actual accuracy?

They do. There are just other factors in play as well.

Really? Are there any commonly known mobs like that? Can a PC be more vulnerable to piercing than slashing as well?
678, Yes, yes, and yes. (n/t)

681, Age or something else i missed?
Posted by Vandir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Resently my stats changed in a weid way.
Some of them rose and others lessened.
Is it possible that it was caused by me becoming "middle aged" from "mature" lately?

And another question... If my constitution drops with age and hits 3 because of that drop, do i instantly die at that moment? or how it works if such thing happens?
682, Aging definitely changes stats

Going from young to mature often goes unnoticed since it only raises stats which at that time are often already maxed anyways, so it isn't surprising you didn't notice it until you became middle-aged.

I don't know if you die if aging drops your con to three.

From help age: "Each race has a lifespan in which to enjoy lives upon this world. As you age, certain stats will be affected such as strength, wisdom, and intelligence."

If my constitution drops with age and hits 3 because of that drop, do i instantly die at that moment? or how it works if such thing happens?

Yup. Anything that reduces your natural CON to 3 will kill you for good. That said, skim the Battlefield forum for how many characters this happens to- deletion is far and away the big killer. As a new player especially, I wouldn't worry about age at all.

<chuckle> I was closer to that happening to me with middle age than i would like to belive.
Exploration that lead you to a place that has no way out by any means and you have nothing to do but starve yourself to death, or charge the nearest sharp brench got me to bad shape over time :/

As for deletion, i do not belive in suicide (of that form), if i am going down i go down biting and kicking.
Like i said, i actualy really like the idea of aging and dying, even if i hate losing a charecter name for ever, a bit short of a life term imho.
I just wanted to make sure that the middle age stat was the one responsible for the changes and not my wild immagination, from the help file i thought only the old age has affect.
Thanks for clearing that area.

For what it's worth, this is the first piece of advice I try to give newbies- pick a character that sounds cool to you and stick it out as long as possible. You learn a lot more about the game when you aren't constantly readjusting to your characters' strengths and weaknesses.
