4820, Reusing roles
Posted by Cointreau on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Is it okay to reuse a role on a character that fizzled out?
Lets say the char never heroed or won a RC, but did receive role exp.
I have a role I'm somewhat proud of but for various RL reason autoed pre-30. Would you guys care if you saw it again?
Thanks.

If I read a role I have rated before, I'm giving 0xp for it. You can still roleplay it, you can still play out your char, but I'm personally not giving any XP for it or considering you for a RC.
I take the same general mindset with descriptions. I don't enjoy duplicates very much. Not in a "Wow, you're evil!" way, but a "I already spent time on this and they're trying to make me repeat it" way. I respect originality.

4826, I know.everyone rolls (punny I know!) When I bring up how Bilgritik was rolled 3 times...

But I reused his name, description and first two role entries. Twice. First I had a empowered Neltouda Healer, then an empowered Ysal shaman. Neither made it past lvl 25, but the backdrop for the character I had poured a bunch into, and really wanted to be successful with it.
Take 3 was the charm as he was a dwarf tatted by an Ancient and and the first and maybe only dwarf to be in Outlander (which I am.forever great ful for!)
So while everyone might roll their eyes at you too, if you have a bad ass role, don't give up on it. I do have a couple of suggestions to make it work though... 1. Don't follow the same Imm for all the reasons others already listed. 2. Let some time pass between attempts. I think there was at least two years between each incarnation of Bil.
I was really proud of this concept and thought it was super unique it just had to be played through! Check it out http://forums.carrionfields.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=31&topic_id=55639&mesg_id=55655&page=

4821, The official line is “don’t do it.â€
Posted by Homard on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It’s not specifically against any rules but any IMM I’ve ever heard comment on it claims that it makes them lose interest or go “bleh†on a character if they notice (and expect to be noted.)
That said, a sufficiently good role that you know went under the radar (little to no Role XP, no role contest entry, no Immteraction) may, being forewarned that it may get passed over for even existing, be worth the gamble if you’re creative enough to retool it and shoehorn it into a new character. Rewrite from scratch and have at it.

Short version - it's not against the rules, but some Imms are less inclined to seek interaction/rewards if they recognize reused roles.
Long(-er) version - It does depend on the Immortal, to a degree. Overall, it definitely can't *help* you, if an Imm should recognize it as "Oh, hell, I remember that from Newbdude the barbarian!". For some Immortals, it can somewhat sour them against perhaps going above and beyond for some extra fun. I can't really think of where it would specifically detriment your character, however, aside from possibly in the empowerment/religion aspect. In my personal case, I can't even remember my kid's names straight half the time, so unless it's the third time I've seen the same role on a shaman coming to me for empowerment, you're probably in reasonable shape in my book. You might run a bigger risk with some of the Imms who more heavily read and rate roles.
