The fine leather cape doesn't appear to show up on the carrionfields item search.

Do you mean to imply that you don't know the stats of it, or that you also can't find it in game? If it's the former, you can always take them to Alduk within the Herald Inn. He, for a amount of money (though it'll be cheap for fine leather gear), will identify any item you give him.
