3749, Changing targets (aiming) mid-fight
Posted by Confused on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I thought I figured this out based on an Imm's response to my prayer, but it still doesn't seem to be working right.
I want to know how I'm supposed to aim at a player (like when "X starts aiming at you!") in the middle of a fight. Like if I'm at my cabal inner, and several people come in, and I'm currently hitting player A but I want to hit player B, what is the command?
I was told it was "hit <player>", and it has worked for me at times. But then when I tried it last time I get "you must MURDER a player" and it left me still fighting player A. When I try to "murder B" I get the echo "you to the best you can!" but I'm still attacking A.
What gives? I really need to figure this out because it's such a common situation and I can't seem to get it right. It's killing me!

3751, Autoassist and rescue.

This is often the case to why you're having trouble. A lot of people with pets/charmies, such as special guards or necro zombies, can order those pets to rescue them.
Now, if they have autoassist on, they'll still be in combat and you can 'hit target' immediately after they are rescued out. But if they have autoassit off, they will then be out of combat and you'll have to use some other type of skill/spell to reengage them to then 'hit target' - 'hit target' does not work as a way to initiate. And you can't murder or kill them either because you're already engaged with something else. E.g., dirt kick, a spec skill, a magic spell, a commune, to get them reengaged with you.

hit or kill <target> works; however, that person must first be fighting (swinging at) you.
So for example you can do something like:
dirt daevryn
and then if I'm still fighting you two rounds later when you get your next command,
kill daevryn
or
hit daevryn
Make sense?

3752, The basic point is that

To redirect, the person you want to redirect on must be fighting you. So at the inn, its likely that they are all beating on the inner because they can't immediately redirect on you, and therefore once you are beating on one of them, you usually can't redirect as easily unless 1) you flee and return 2) the person you want to redirect is rescued and you initiate a fight/he initiates a fight with you thereby bringing him into direct combat with you
oops, this meant to go under main thread.
