3644, The chromatic flame!

Why do limited items now burn up when you die? It's bad enough that death means we have to forfit them if looters choose to take them, but now they just go poof, and hope for reboot/find someone who has them.

To the smart asses out there... Yes "don't die" is an obvious solution but not the so easy to do solution.

Over-max limited items have always done that. The echo letting you know is the new part.
3646, I'm pretty sure this is buggy.

Ever since this new thing went in I am consistently losing 1-3 items every time I die whereas before it was maybe one item every 6 deaths.

Since all I added was an echo when it happens. Nothing else has changed about the overmax code in a very long time. You are just certain that is why it happens now.
3648, In other news, I'm getting looted of 1-3 things less! :P ~

3649, How do you have over limit on items?
Posted by Meoilaxenz on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I assumed (we know how that goes) that if you coded it to be a certain amount then the program wouldn't make anymore... How does that work?

Essentially, limits, like mino population and hometown pop max, are based on the player count. As it decreases, like during a holiday season, the limits go down.
3651, Are you sure?

I thought it only used to happen upon a corpse rotting and the items going to the pit or to the player if in an explore area. Something peculiar is going on.

Yes, I know you made recent changes via santa zulg board.

I can for 100% sure say that's not correct.

Maybe it has to do with older gear? On players that don't die a lot, is their gear circulated out quicker than 'fresh' gear? For example, if I went and requested the Sword of Vengeance from Mortorn as a storm shaman, it maxed out with that request, your player average calculation came through and it became overmaxed..will I keep my sword longer than anyone else who had it already if I die?

I'm still running into issues of losing a couple of pieces of gear per death consistently whereas before it was maybe one piece every five deaths.
3655, Here is my assumption for char's that die less:
Posted by SuperIsisMan on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
When a char goes longer without dying then it increases the chances of having gear disappear in the flame bc:

At some point while you hold it, the player count drops(or whatever the trigger is), your item is triggered to disappear on your death. Even if the numbers shift, your item has already been tagged. So if you are holding multiple items that have been tagged over, lets just say two weeks, then when you die after two weeks, they all go even if the number was later increased after your items got tagged.

Or I could be completely wrong and it runs the check right when you die.

Those of us who die far more frequently hardly notice a difference, but those of you jerkfaces that keep living take the brunt.

Yup...you're wrong...this is how it works. I posted this recently, but can't seem to find it. The mud doesn't know where all of the items are. It knows you have one, and you died, and it's overmax. Then *poof*

I was right about possibly being wrong!

Thanks for clarifying. Again.
