Hello all!

Me and my friend were disputing about rot mechanics and decided to ask here - how does rot works exactly?

He says: each tick there is a check on con. If check failed, con goes down, if not - con remains untouched.

I say: there is no saving throw vs con each tick. If rot is landed, it will decrease con every tick while it's on the character.

Who is right and who is wrong here? Or, if we both are mistaken, how does rot works exactly?

So it's important to keep your con high soon after being rotted so that it passes as many checks as possible. If you delay (especially as a low con race) and are already below max when you switch into your +con gear, you are probably toast.

To put it into context, I've had drow take full rots from Imperial High Priests (seem to recall it was 36 hours or something like that) and only be subject to a -4 con when the supp was in its final hour.

Try to keep your con (actual + gear) at or above your maximum. If your con falls even a few below racial max, you will see the remaining points dwindle away with frightening regularity.

Then I have another question: if there is a saving throw on rot each tick, svs spell is in play too? Or is it just like 50x50 and gear will not take part in this calculation?

I've played shamans and a lot of people died to the rot earlier. I think rot have a very high chance to decrease con. But some people never died to it (and I know they had no +con gear and I've rotted them with best rot available). So, trick is saves?

I'd imagine the saving throw of rot is based on con, which means hilarious results if you allow yourself to even *start* failing those saves; they'll get cumulatively harder.

And people probably do have +con gear.

My characters (if I care about them) will typically carry about +20 in con gear in a container, and only change into it when they are rotted.

Don't carry limited gear that adds lots of con. Just carry non-limited gear that adds a bit.

e.g. 2 x silver amulet, 2 x iron bracers from frigid wastes, juggling balls from Aldevari, jerkin from Arkham crypts, cloak from Jade village.

That's +14 already. Getting the rest or improving on these isn't too hard.

As Zulgh said, there is a check against con, and only con. Save might play into it landing, but once it is on you, you get the hourly check against your con, not your save.

Rot has a good chance to decrease con, but not on people with high con. I'd say if you are an elf, who only has 16 highest, they can save the con checks. Not every time, and the saves will get harder as they lose, but if they have enough ear to keep the checks going against a 16, they probably won't be losing a point every hour, otherwise rot would essentially just kill the elven races. If they wear + con gear, then even when it goes down their next check will still be against that 16 con.

You could rot a dwarf with 25 con, he'll never miss a check for the most part. I would say anyone with 20 con or more does not worry about rot actually killing them, especially if they have a few pieces of gear to boost their con up, which most every hero carries I'd say at least +10 of in a container.

The only thing I do not recall is if your con check goes against your natural or adjusted, but I thought I saw it said once that the check is against natural con. So + gear allows you time to wait out, but does not help it from going down.
But I am not sure about that, an Imm would know best.

Healing sleep works. *Maybe* a transplendant archon woudl do something for you, but I kind of doubt it. Altruism can shift it from one player to another.

One requires perfecting a spell (I seem to recall), and I think maybe cleanse can do it too. Not sure though.

Best tactic against rot is just to pack light non limited +con gear.

Not natural con.

Otherwise the rot effect itself would not make it progressively harder to save.

What the imm said was that you couldn't boost your con above your racial max for the purposes of making saves.
