242, and a little more advice

If you are new to the mud, I would seriously consider making sure your character is good aligned. This gives you a set of people who will probably help you out and enable you to learn faster to begin with.
I say this because I recently bumped into a guy who was quite high level and had no idea of where to find even basic equipment when he died. If you end up like this at high level you are likely to get killed before you re-equip. Better to either have a support base (like other good aligned characters) or to learn this stuff at the lower ranks and not worry about people killing you all the time while you learn it.

ok, regarding gear, check out the following helpfiles:
HELP NEWBIE and HELP NEWBIE2
These point you in the direction of some newbie areas. In those areas there is some basic gear. Some is mentioned in the helpfiles (like skull rings, which make you hit harder) and some isn't. One of those areas (the graveyard) has a sword or two in it, if I recall.
As far as crossing the dragon sea, I think you might be asking about a quest in which case I can't say much because they shouldn't be discussed out of the game.
However, there is nothing to stop you finding this out by asking people in the game. Try looking for people using the WHO command who have acolyte next to their name, or who are paladins. They will usually help you if they don't know you are evil.
Generally though, you just need to head east from Hamsah to reach Arkham. You then end up with choices of going north or south. North will take you to Arkham Harbour. Once there, you should explore the city, avoiding bits that look too dangerous. If you know the name of the guy you are looking for, you can type WHERE GUY'S_NAME and it will tell you (in most cases) the name of the room he is in. Then you can use the EXIT command to see if any of the rooms next to you have that name. This is useful if you are walking down a street and want to check out the names of the shops on each side, etc.
