I've seen some invokers running around carrying funky stuff, when I asked them about it they said that it helped them learn spells faster. Is this true? Or does holding the things just increase their mana or something?

2322, you can move to the next spell quicker, iirc

My advice is take them at their word and use them. Eventually it will become clear what they do.
