1521, How does one treat death and rematerialization ICly?

Hey all, I was just wondering if there was a standard explanation in character for when you die... then go look for more stuff and fight more after. I'm not knocking the system, just asking what the rationale is behind that situation, if there is one?

Thanks

I always thought... this is the way things work in this world. Death isn't permanent until your lifeforce is completely gone. As long as there is a flicker of it, your body will be remade. The only thing that makes it seem to not make sense is that we live in the real world, and know that once the body dies, that's it. Take away that knowledge, and Carrion Fields method of death makes perfect sense. Because that's all your character knows.

I've always used a similar explanation for weapons with say, a fire attack not being magic. Clearly a weapon that burns would be magical, right? Well, yes, but only from our point of view. From a character in Carrion Fields point of view, there's really should be nothing wierd in a skilled smith making weapons that do all sorts of things we can't imagine.

I like this one better, because it also explains the mob repops. However, it is not universally accepted, so you end up in weird situations when you have characters with roles that involve death. E.g. "Your parents were killed by mages?.. Did they get their revenge after they were ressurected?.. Oh they weren't - so how did they die the other 30 times?.. What, they died only once?? What kind of weird creatures were they?"

The Gods of Thera recreate your form so you can continue to fight and die for their amusement.

"Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.... Go through his clothes and look for loose change."
1524, Thanks, makes enough sense for me to go along with it :) n/t

1) You always end up at a temple or other sacred place. I've always linked that to the will of whatever patron god my character recognized.

2) You're weakened in a permanent fashion every time it occurs, suggesting it is not something your character would take lightly.

It's obviously some sort of contract between the guilds and the town healers. Town healers resurrect you, and you pay them fat whenever you are hurt, poisoned, blind, plagued, malaria, cursed, have a cursed item, etc. etc. etc. The guilds contract this with the healers are mutually beneficial... can't have their members dying off with a stiff breeze, the who would pay for all the practicing?

p.s. The trainers are obviously in on it too.

p.p.s. Ignore wood elves and outlanders existence. They're really only a myth anyway.

I think it'd be kinda cool if you had an Imm you were closely connected to, and were able to be resurrected in their shrine.

Also consider the fact, when making it all gell into an IC worldview, that some force apparently also resurrects everything else in the game (NPCs) without permanently weakening them in some way.
