You have a couple hundred dollars in Best Buy gift cards from Christmas.

Do you buy...

A. HDdvd player
B. Xbox360
C. Sirius Satellite Radio
D. PS3

No Xbox because Microsoft is more evil than a scion tea party.
Sirius? Meh, how great can a radio be?
HDdvd is useless right now and bluray is a better format anyway. If you're going to get a bluray player then you'd be silly to get one for the same price as a PS3

879, You didn't define the budget clearly.

Let's think of the price range of Best Buy:

A HDdvd player 500-1000$(800-1000$ for one that says blue-ray in the product name), a DVD player with HD upconversion about 150-200$

B - Xbox360 300-510$

C - Sirius satellite radio 80-520$

D - PS3 600-780$

I can define some kind of a buy basket if the amount of cash available is given. I don't think that the gift card is limited to one item only. The items are not exactly of the same price, so you could buy something else if you chose to buy a cheaper product.

Some people are really detail oriented.

Let's assume we're working with a $700 budget, at least a third of which is in the form of gift cards.

Judging by bestbuy.com I think you're over on some of your estimates, particularly when the in-store cost (I've found) is cheaper than the online price (I figure they build shipping costs in).

The PS3 appears to be the most expensive of the options listed in the original post.

We'll go by the online prices with our 700$ budget

My cart would be:

Digital camera 300$
Scanner 180$
Shaving machine 210$

Sure, it leaves about 10$ for something small, but this is about it.

Off the top of my head, I think the best option is the Xbox. However, if you're into radio at all, Sirius is pretty damn sweet.

As for the the PS3 and HDDVD Player... I'd give both of those some time, the dvd player because nothing is shot and broadly released on HD yet. Regular DVDs will still look pretty sweet on your HDTV set.. And the PS3 simply because of the expense.

PS. If you're set on getting the DVD player or PS3, go with the PS3 as you get the utility of the DVD player out of it anyhow as well as the games.
