807, Some numbers to crunch:

Some polls on all four issues. Lots of sources, lots of questions on each. This site gives the exact questions and results, without any added commentary. It's completely ridiculous to say that the Republican/conservative positions are the "American" angle, given the numbers.

Abortion: Very evenly split. Most Americans are neither purely pro-life nor pro-choice. This is a remarkably consistent trend, even in polls that go back 30 years:

Guns: A clear, sizable majority of Americans favor stricter gun laws, and 1/3 take the extreme stance that handguns should be illegal in civilian hands. A slight majority thinks having a gun in your house makes it a more dangerous place.

Stem Cells: A clear, sizable majority of Americans prefer that scientists be allowed to obtain federal funding for stem cell research.

Immigration control: Complicated. Most Americans want higher security at the borders. However, they also think the Democratic Party's approach is a better choice than the Republican Party's approach. A large majority of Americans favor a guest worker program to allow illegal immigrant to register for continued employment. A large majority of Americans favor illegal immigrants being allowed to remain in the U.S. Americans are very evenly divided as to whether or not the current immigration siutation helps or hurts the country overall.
