Guys like Tom Tancredo (Colorado) take a hard line when it comes to immigration. If his views were a "winning ticket" in more districts then you'd see more candidates with those views winning Republican primaries. They aren't winning. In other words, if you were to emulate Tancredo you would be unelectable in the vast majority of congressional districts.
