Thanks for all the interactions.

This Healer was completely ####. It was a complete headache the whole way through. I got some dumb#### responses from Immortal's about a skill flaw I had. I won't explain it, nor do I care to hear more about (mathematical) reasons why it didn't work.

If you post a message, I'll get back to you.

In the future, then, please refrain from asking questions you aren't going to like the answer to.
84508, Maybe... Just maybe...

If I had parried more then 1 in 1,000,000 attacks, I wouldn't have asked.

It's fine to ask. It's not fine to be pissy about getting the correct answer because you don't like it.

There is no minimum chance to parry an attack. If you're tanking mobs that are much higher level than you, using either weapons you don't know at all or hand to hand which you're not very good at, while using a weapon you have in the 70s, with a low strength, (fill in several more situational factors stacked against you here), your chance to parry can be 0. If you try to roll under 0% a million times, you will make it 0 times.

If you would like to parry more than 0% of the time in that situation, you need to change one or more of those factors.

I swear, y'all bitched when I was super vague, and now that I give more detailed answers you either don't read them or don't like them. :P
84514, I'm confused...

What's the deal? Did he have a flaw or some other factor working against him?

My last healer (a human) parried just fine for a .. well, healer.
84517, No flaw.
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
A healer can parry fine, just... not in bad enough circumstances.

Did I mention he was also using a whip?
84519, Follow-Up Question
Posted by asy-guest on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I believe he mentioned either in this post or elsewhere that his parry never went up.

Are the odds of parry (or any skill) improving per-check based in part on how high the chance you had of it being successful that time?

Ie, is parry more likely to go up when I "confidently parry" vs. when I "barely parry", all other factors being equal?
84521, RE: Follow-Up Question
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
No, except in the sense that you need to execute a successful parry to have a chance to improve.

If you've set up a situation where things are literally so bad you can't parry at all, obviously you can't improve at that point.
84523, RE: Follow-Up Question
Posted by Isildur on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That's interesting. It creates a situation where fighting the "toughest mob you can handle" probably won't give you the best results. You'd be better off fighting a weaker mob, at a lesser learning rate, simply by virtue of the fact that you may actually succeed at parrying the weaker mob. That seems like kind of a perverse incentive.
84524, Well, it is.

I may be on the crazy end, but it seems like this would have been entirely intentional. Everything else seems to work on a principle of diminishing returns, why not parry/skill improvements?
84522, I did the same with Nezlintryzn, Siilthzyra and Khrathtyn.
Posted by Mhithulzin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Parry was 100% before hero. And I tanked like a fricken God. How does that factor into your calculations?

I'm not trying to be an asshole about this. I just want to know why.

The RNG was designed explicitly to screw you over.

At least, that's the way I feel over half the time. See my complaint about getting perma-lagged despite 100% sure footing. :P
84528, Was looking forward to getting to know you /stxt

And comparing some notes on dark-pact and the like. Unfortunately, the average life span of an evil healer is extremely low, which is a pity, so much potential!
84530, You were
Posted by Ahtieli2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
an asshole that's the only feeling I got from short interration with you.
84531, Considering all I asked
Posted by Mhithulzin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Was what you wanted for a certain item. And then you gave me some lame excuse on why not to trade it.
84535, RE: Considering all I asked
Posted by Ahtieli2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It did not sound like a trade offer at least to me. I took it more like insult order from someone who can not order me.
84536, I asked. And I quote
Posted by Mhithulzin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
'What would it take to pry that **** from your ****?'

It was a complete question. And I had things you might have wanted for it. Eagle Staff for one.

I believe you were the rude one. Stating that I couldn't get *********** by myself. Which indeed I very well could have.
84537, Seems you have problems with quote
Posted by Ahtieli2 on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Mhithulzin tells you 'What would seperate your face from that mask?'
You tell Mhithulzin 'You don't need it anyway.'
Mhithulzin tells you 'But I do.'
You tell Mhithulzin 'No, you don't.'
Mhithulzin tells you 'You are the one who does not need it.'
You tell Mhithulzin 'I better give to High Priestess.'
You tell Mhithulzin 'You are too young even to use it.'
Mhithulzin tells you 'You assume too much, Black.'
84538, I look at this, and think:
Posted by Daevryn on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
On one hand, in theory Ahtieli at this point is ranked lower in the Empire.

On the other hand, the reality is also that Ahtieli is a bad-ass ####er and Mhithulzin is not, and Ahtieli knows that.

You can only talk down to someone who can eat you for lunch so much and expect to get away with it, much less get what you want. Maybe that's Mhithulzin's RP, and if so, I really commend him for taking a tack here that, objectively, we can see is not smart.
84539, Either way. You have to admit I asked for it. Not demanded. nt

Damn dude. You guys must have mopped up Hell the other night. We were going to return like 95% of it, by the way, minus what you got from Quird earlier in our terribly executed raid fiasco.
84501, We did decently. A lot of stupid errors. But we got some stuff. nt
