55364, Have fun all. I'm out
Posted by Thelmon on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
This was my first shaman, indeed first empowered character. Apart from some initial troubles, which at the time was frustrating, empowerment was painless. Many thanks to Innis for letting me do my own thing.
I have had fun and I learned a lot, but for the last week or so, I didn't have fun and while I definitely could learn a lot more, I would rather just have fun.
Being good was alright, except that I found the numbers of foes very limited, and also the number of potential allies. There were a lot of people I had little business grouping with, much less fight. Too bad.
The last month or so, there seemed to be an influx of outlanders. That's great, except we only have so many players, so it meant very few enemies. Another reason for giving up Thelmon.
Shamans are very tough and outlander powers complement them very well. I didn't like the skill set though, it didn't fit with my play style. Too little oomph, so to speak. With teleport it might have been more enjoyable. It was great that I could do without gear though. I lost a lot of things to the hoarding code, due to my sporadic playing times, but it didn't matter.
Shamans can very easily kill rookies, but then, rookies are always easy to kill. To defeat more skilled opponents, shamans seemed very dependant upon terrain, something I found frustrating as I tend to be rather impatient.
Back when Thelmon was conceived I thought that sphere music was a great idea. The oral tradition fits well with a couple of outlander themes. I even made a few songs (as in score, not lyrics) for him. It was great, until I actually tried to convey rhythm, tone, melody, etc, via a textual medium. Oh, it can be done, but I fail to see how without using metaphors. And thats when you start to roleplay at others or for them.
So I tried to rhyme a bit when the occassion warranted it. Or hum a tune, or play my flute, but I think it sucked _big_ time. Especially as English is not my native tongue, thus thinking up some proper poetry on the spur of the moment was too difficult for me.
My playing times are sporadic. One of the things I missed with Thelmon was long lasting enemies and friends. That is the price for not playing often. Being in a cabal helped a bit with that, but I didn't get into outlanders until lvl 39 (100+ hours). However, for the last month or so I have had more time to play, which was great.
Thelmon lasted a long (real) time and I would like to say thank you to all those who interacted with him. I will look through my files to offer up some names too.
Have fun all.

55389, Some outlanders

INNIS.
First of all, thanks for the juice!
The following quote from your helpfile
"The followers of the Golden Chalice walk in the dark places seeking out the dark servants and falling upon them with a ferocity unmatched. They punish the nightmares and those who send them, driving both back to their fell beginnings."
appealed a lot to me. I like melodrama, so it was quite a shock how laid back Innis is. I was completely taken aback at the empowerment interview. I guess I could have gotten used to the casual approach, but I only got one other sample of it ;-)
I came back to the glade several times to pray for enlightenment regarding some specific communes. I don't know whether you found it annoying or our times just didn't mesh, but in the end Thelmon found a suitable approach.
I don't know whether Thelmon received full empowerment at first or some later time, but I assumed I was only partially empowered. Thus I didn't realize you had actually removed some empowerment even though you explained it to me when we finally met up. Thanks for giving me a second go. I basically expressed my views with Thelmon, but since I'm not the one with the empowerment button, I appreciate the gesture.
I don't know what you expect from your followers, but I hoped I offered some of it. I did try to preach to my group mates (probably much to their annoyance ;-)
CHAISSE Just cool. Thelmon was in love with you. But when you deleted just after he got inducted, I didn't pursue that path further, though I did consider adding it to his role.
HALISTANIS I think you did a lot of cool things. I especially liked the Brumble stuff. You had a lot of atmosphere and wanted to do things. Thumbs up. I as a player didn't agree with some of your choices, but it was just minor stuff. Best of luck and have fun exploring the game.
One word of advice, though: Consider not posting offline with an active character to defend yourself from any real or perceived wronging. It just brings grief.
LANNING I never met you, but I sure liked your notes. Sounds like a cool char.
EARANE I love bards and with Thelmon's sphere he was naturally attracted to you. Unfortunately, we rarely got something going, but I hope you had fun with some of imprompto verses ;-)
RAVIRI Best of luck to you. Enjoy the freedom of evil outlanders and gut some of the foolish goodies ;-)
ELIFOD You are funny. Dragging around a skiff is just plain silly, but I like a little silliness now and then. Keep spreading fun.
NEIKULOUS Your roleplay was very consistent. Too modern for my taste (something I associate with cities) but no big deal. I thought the vortex was funny too, though.

55385, Well, that was an interesting char

Very solid goodie RP, I must admit. I doubt I would ever be able to RP goodie in such way, but again, I probably should try some day.
With all that I felt like you were very distant most of the time. From Outlanders that is. Kind of loner.
Anyways, well done and I hope I didn't annoy you all that much.

Thank you for the kind words. Playing a goodie sucks big time. Don't do it! *wink*
I must admit that I am something of a loner. As far as PK goes I prefer to be alone and I hate cabal raiding ;-)
I don't mind hanging out with others, but I didn't fit in that well with the other outlanders.
Like I said in my goodbyes, I found Halistanis a cool char and Thelmon had a lot of respect for her. We just disagreed on a few issues.
There has been a lot of drama about Halistanis, but I hope it resolves and you have fun in the process or at least afterwards. It's about having fun!
