Angrelm was a tough character to play. I hadn't played a warrior since legacies came out, so I wanted to give that a go. Fortress was (or seemed to be) an underdog at the time. I took Surrounding the Sunrise and the drive legacy...Landslide of the Second Breath? Sword/hand spec. From a gameplay standpoint, I wanted to be able to survive a few rounds against a group, drive my foe away from his friends, and confuse/surprise/cause panic with the lagging drive. It worked, to some extent, but I found myself fighting mostly folks while they were alone.

Sphere was Fate, role was somewhat open ended...kind of a "life is hard, deal with it" kind of role. Get knocked down, get back up and into the fray. His role had dreams that could have been foreshadowing, or past encounters, or just dreams. Guerric didn't fit, but there wasn't really another good immortal that covered my role. Psuchae came along and fit perfectly, but I never got a hold of her. Him. It. Whatever. Angrelm rolled with the punches. I expected to die a lot, and I did. I hated Narguth with a passion.

Actually, I hated AP's in general. Bash. Bash. Iceball. Iceball. Iceball. Run back to corpse. That happened more times than I care to admit. Yes, I know I can shrink or enlarge to avoid or alleviate bash. Yes, I know I could have picked a different legacy. Yes, I know I can word/teleport when I see them coming. I know, I know. I even went out and found a haste prep and some heal pills to give me a fighting chance. Of course, then haste disappeared...

Fortress was interesting. There was no real comraderie, just a bunch of individuals with a chat channel. Raids would come and go and I wouldn't know about it until I saw the Watcher say "Yo, good job Holmes. You bad." What? We raided Empire? Huh. And I was guilty of the same. Weird, that. I think it has to do with the noble knight mentality. People didn't ask for help when they got attacked. They didn't ask for help with much of anything. Needing help is something those poor street urchins do. A noble knight need not share his glory with another questor...not against this windmill! Revive. Corpserun.

Then again, toward the end of the 3rd Age, there weren't many people around. It was me and a few others..Chokaire, Landren, Itholin, Daelen.. a few others. It felt slim there....the goings were tough.

And let me tell you, that little Battlerager war-against-all was a phenomenally huge downer for me. I sat in there, I defended, I played the Soldier of the Light. And I died, repeatedly, over that 3-day span. Alone. Rolled with the punches, got back up, regeared, retrieved if possible, and defended to the death once more.

Dawn of the 4th Age coincided with a huge proposal effort at work, and an increase in my responsibilities, as well as some other things at home. It was harder and harder to log in for more than 30-60 minutes at a time. Two weeks went by. Three. I'd log in to keep him alive, give a few encouraging words to the Fort, and log out. That's no way to play a character. I tried to make time this month, but it just wasn't happening until maybe this coming weekend...but alas, it's too late.

Oh well.

Not all was negative, I don't mean to give that impression. I enjoyed the character and might have some goodbyes and logs to post if I get some time this weekend. It just that this seems to happen with my characters...I get something good going, get through some tough IC times, and then something in real life comes up. A couple months pass, and if I manage to not auto, I log in and there's an entirely new generation of folks and I just can't get back into it. I log onto the Battlefield with my fingers crossed...but then my heart sinks. Yup. Another auto. It just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. CF has been in my life a long time (since '95), it's just getting harder and harder to keep with characters for extended times.

Anyway, I'll give some more goodbyes sometime. I have a lot of battles logged.. Most of them are me giving charges to Narguth. God I hated Narguth.

Altin had just slaughtered me and taken our item back to the Chasm. Daelen and Junim were counterattacking...Junim died, but the Nightwalker was hurt pretty bad. Altin was defending the counter. He's decked, and has humansunder. Angrelm doesn't stand a fighting chance against this guy, but what kind of soldier of the light stands idle in a situation like this?

Outside the Gate of Sihaam
Here at the northern end of the Caravan Road, a fortified gate flanked
by sandstone towers leads into the desert city of Hamsah Mu'tazz. Named
after the host of archers that walk its causeway, the Gate of Arrows
is equipped with a massive portcullis that can be raised or lowered between
the towers. Voices drift from the north as does the smell of cooked meat,
smoke, and occasional shouts and catcalls. To the south the road leads out
into the desert wilderness.


A sign points south towards the Desert of Araile and Sands of Sorrow.

Torn from the ashen rock of the chasm's northern wall, the blasted gray
stone is accentuated by the unnatural darkness of this place. Your light
source dims a bit, oppressed by some unspoken and damned force which
smothers its now-feeble glow. A jagged crack in the earth yawns below, a
broken path spiraling along the edges of its maw, foreboding and dark.
Only the whispering of some dread breeze breaks the silence of the abyss
below, as it stealthily creeps forth to swirl about in a chilling dance.

room to the south shakes with noise. In the eastern wall stands a finely
carved door with a boar's head etched on it.
