I really liked where your char was going. I was hoping you werent one of those other thieves who sit at rank 30-35 and pk to get their ratio up. Was glad to see that your character was interested in guild affairs and politics *wink*.

I was going to echo pretty much what Enbuergo said, very nicely done and I dont know why Glinar isnt around anymore. He was for a while, probably cuz of all my bitching and whining :) You definately woulda had my recomandation for the next kingpin, to take my place or Enbuergo's, whichever one was gone first...if we ever got to see Glinar again. I really enjoyed our planning and scheeming, as well as your always open ears. You did feed Ajoul a lot of information (since ive been busy as hell with school and now im on vacation...away from my PC) about guild problems and potential problems...that resulted in a few blackballs on my part. Ajoul did not always trust you, Shrahz seemed slippery and sly, but you turned out all right in the end and i began to like you. Cheers and best of luck with next.

I'll preface by saying I really, really did not want you to go, but I can see why you did. Thieves are weak at high ranks, plain and simple, and I know the reason no high-ranked thieves are showing is because of the rage at being overlooked time and time again as the imms tweak/revamp other classes but not us. It's frustrating knowing that there is absolutely nothing you can do in some circumstances to land a kill. You can have the best set in the world, etc etc, but you're a one (or two) trick pony, and if those tricks fail, you're toast.

Anyway, getting back to my point...you were one of the only thieves I saw coming up as competant enough to run with me without me having to "dumb it down" for you. I have no problem explaining the game to less experienced players, but at the same time, thieves in general seem to lack talent right now (with some exceptions), and it gets monotonous. You and I could have been a wrecking crew, and I'm sorry we're both going to miss that.

About your character: I've never, or almost never, met a more scheming, coniving bitch--but take this in a good way. You were definitely kingpin material, and I was going to do my utmost to see you get that (although it doesn't have any skill/power benefits). I know you were trying to get Glinar's attention, and I'm disappointed that the immortals did not make the effort to recognize your contributions to the guild (imms...if you were planning something for Shrahz, please ignore this). Even though you were a Scion, I could tell you would have put the guild first, while still managing to tie everything together neatly like you always seemed to manage to do.

I'll miss our talks as well, but I think I'll miss the intrigue our interactions created more. When our plan to get you the dragonscale pendant without getting me raped by an enormous gang of scion heros panned out (thereby getting away scot-free)...I was about as happy as if I got it for myself.

I hope you and I get to interact with other characters, because I certainly enjoyed this one.

My only problem with thieves is that they were not good explorers. In PK they were very, very strong. It takes a lot more finesse to play a thief than any other class. Thieves are however the most breakable class in the game. (If you can find them) It's about as much stalking your victim as assassins do. Fight smarter, not harder is the thief's motto. (It has nothing to do with scrolls or even outside protections, though they do of course help)

They are limited in options, but they advantage of surprise is almost always on their side. Use that to defeat your opponents.

This is a log that shows me catching a mage unprepared. If he was prepared, you can expect me to run away. Note that part of stealth isn't always being unseen, it's being unexpected.

Thieves are definetly very, very strong in pk's, especially when you catch people off guard. I had the majority of my equipment back after I instakilled two of the warders that got the loot. Roleplaying an evil thief for me got kind of boring after the hundred thousanth time I whispered at someone from the shadows. Tripping got old after rank 5. I've had more then a couple thieves at hero range, being an entropist gave me the oppertunity to really screw some folks over pk wise. But, for a non entropic thief, it is hard as hell to get the jump on someone. Even with sylvan thieves, if people knew you were coming, they made the proper preperations and dealt with you accordingly, even though you could hide anywhere on land in the game. I still say that thieves are my favorite class to play, but only because I like strutting around with shiny things on after a pure roleplay char goes gets boring. I dunno, I kind of lost the point of this post somewhere back there. Go pirates?

Posted by Enbuergo on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I don't think I'm the right person for you to lecture about how to pk with a thief, considering Enbuergo is something of a butcher =P. And as far as tactics go, I would say that I'm one of the sneakiest bastards out there. I would assume you posted your log as an example of "good" thief tactics...but as the guy said, he didn't prepare. I don't log many fights, but if I did I'd post me taking down Qwestallix or Gegreigar (although admittedly Gegreigar took me a while to get to) or Antaroc for that matter in town through guards, which I daresay requires a bit more cunning than spamming trip.

Reread my original post, because I think you missed the point.

I think at some point he just decided, "When I die, that's it." And yeah, that set was disgusting.
5266, I'd say it was a little more than that.

He/she it died three times back to back. I think he just found out a duergar is a nasty class to attempt to play in the hero ranks.

5269, You're all wrong!
Posted by Lhydia on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Oh wait, no you're not. I really love playing thieves, and hadn't played a Scion in a bit, so I went with it. Duergar thieves are great, thieves in general are great. I went through a lot of nice sets, with two after I lost the 'good' one. When I deleted I had 960 hp and a 40 dam. I just got bored level sitting at rank 30, and stupidly decided to rank. It was a very dumb move on my part. No scrolls work in pk's after rank 35, except for slow scrolls which I never really bothered with. I was not looking forward to the hero ranges, especially after I stupidly got killed. If you see a high ranked invoker walking toward you on a mountain, quaff immediatly, don't wait for the mage to word you. I was also starting a bit of evil roleplay which I don't think I could have backed up well. Either way, I jumped out of a potentially frustrating situation before I really had to deal with it. Fairly lame, but I like to have fun. Thanks Enbuergo, for many a talk in the guild, and all the other thieves I interacted with. The guild idea was a great one, and I had some ideas to throw around if I ever got Kingpin, but oh well. Ummm...yeah.
