42123, (DELETED) Dhurin
Posted by Dhurin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Dhurin was my first good aligned character above level 24 and my first fortress member. I played him somewhat sporadically. While he had his fun moments, I was very frustrated with him and the only reason I didn't delete much earlier was that I would like to have a hero goodie and it seemed like a waste to delete one half way there.
I did delete after all for three reasons.
1. I wasn't satisfied with my roleplay. I think I was a good good-aligned, decent maran and a ####ty dwarf. I couldn't decide on a proper angle on Dhurin's personality and it irked me no end. When I finally got into the fortress I experienced what is best described as a 'very light mood'. I can relate to that but I always felt it was kinda cheesy. All the same I did join the jokes now and then. Not a very consistent behaviour.
2. The fortress is very strong at my usual playing hours. There was very little conflict and I usually cheered for the lone enemy. There are some great fortress members but I didn't really click with any of them and when you can't roleplay that much, it becomes super boring.
3. Dhurin sucked big time. I have played a number of warriors by now, and he was by far the weakest of them. I can live with having a number of nemesis classes, in this case assassins and bards, but everyone and their sick granny rolled me over. This is partly my own fault in so far as I imposed the restriction that I could not kill neutral intelligent species and that I took the drowning fear seriously. I couldn't find any decent axes, I couldn't find any +str gear. It rather sucked to have to be translucent to enter the high lord's keep to reequip and so on. In addition I seemed to botch every skill move, whether it was bash, pincer or whatever.
That being said, it was interesting to play a good aligned. Provided there is someone to group with it is amazingly easy to get levels. I do think that good aligned shouldn't kill neutral mobs for eq, so if I try again, I would play a paladin or a mage, who I would have no trouble equipping.
I would very much like to play a paladin. The roleplay is super easy and I think it would be fun, but so far the empowerment process has scared me off (I have tried two times unsuccesfully). Dhurin was intended as a 'paladin light', who followed most of the code.

Idren. We had some fun a long time ago. In the 30's perhaps? And then you pop out of nowhere a few days ago. I am super nostalgic, so I couldn't pass up the chance to run around with you. Great fun. It brings back good memories. That time you were in danger of drowning in the ale barrel, say.
FORTRESS. Well, I think this has to be the easist cabal to join. I didn't even had to pass an interview! Forsk tells you 'Come to the fortress'. Induct Dhurin. Cool.
On the other hand, it did take 90+ hours from I applied to I got inducted, so perhaps Forsk just took pity on me.
Ulothrye, I think you are a super cool paladin. I can't think of a single fault with you. Keep trucking.
Lothari, I liked you. You played the transition well from a 'young squire' to an experienced soldier who saw Dhurin as a peer and then to someone who could guide Dhurin. Thanks for the advice you gave me. I didn't need that particular advice, it was just rp, but I think you could have shown me some nifty things had the opportunity arisen.
Faltarn, you know what you are doing. I am sorry I botched that sure kill on Zimel. I got no excuse.
Feichin, you had an interesting angle with the no magic. The power of the cabal channel becomes apparant when one has a scout like you.
I experienced a number of well done dwarves. I think the coolest was Heas, with Gumbldink a close second, but what I saw of Forsk was also inspirational. I wasn't about to suddenly talk with an accent. Since English is not my first language I have enough trouble as it is.
Ladia, a competent healer just makes being a warrior so easy. Keep trucking.
Roavia, I was super impressed when you were in the 20's. You did all the paladin stuff. Then at hero, we just didn't click. All the light banter, it rubbed me the wrong way.
Seltun, super cool. Hahah, I just laugh every time I think of you. I couldn't decide how Dhurin should react to you. The most obvious response would be to think you were a whimsical, no good jester going in the warriors' way. I tried that, but I just couldn't get my heart into it. THanks for showing me Thar-Acacia, too bad I was semiAFK and you whizzed through the place.
Alven, I didn't see you after joining the fortress, but you were awesome.
OUTLANDER You gave me a lot of grief, so that was cool.
Kazren, pure monster.
Earendur, I think you did a good aligned outlander well. But then I am biased ;-) Good luck with everything.
Outlander druids: You gave me all kinds of trouble. Enough that I even took a legacy to better deal with you, and behold I don't fight a single druid after 48.
BATTLE I think almost all of the battleragers I fought took their battle rager obligations seriously. Much respect for that.
Aladar, I had no chance of defeating you and you had a very good chance of killing me. You played a mean bard. I couldn't tell how much of your bitching was in char, but ooc, you should be happy the fortress gave you something to do.
Keviatalon, tough as nails. Keep trucking man.
Asyka, we had a few good fights. I actually developed a simple strategy for dealing with you, but I never got to try it out in practice.
EMPIRE Dulmisa, smooth, just smooth.
Zekado, keep trucking man. I couldn't really cheer for you in char, but I wish you the best of luck. Awesome attitude and nice dedicated imperial rp.
SCION Maztriel, I just wish I had had detect evil. I can assure you, you would have had a lot of grief/fun with me. After you got to around 45 it was just oneside battles, with me fleeing/dying all the time.
Gondrak, tough as nails. I loved your attitude and RP. The mino speech took some of the edge out of it, but you are still super cool. Keep trucking. I hope the scion imms have given you some reward for your efforts.
Have fun.

First Tarylaen, now you. Well I guess I saw this coming in some form or another seeing as lately the hero range has been pretty boring during pretty much any time (at least when I play). I hate the feeling of hunting down a lone evil when 7 others are doing the exact same thing as me, but well...what can ya do. That's how the wagon shifts sometimes. I can already see things starting to even off with some solid scions getting up to hero ranks along with a crazy turn of events Fort wise which should make for some fun action. As far as Dhurin was concerned, I liked you tons even though I was always on my way to bed when you'd log on. That time fighting Kaazra and Ortelot gave me some laughs. Me trying to summon them to us and you ending up getting summoned by them. I'd be running frantically to get to you before they did you in. I've played a few dwarf warriors in my time, and they're a tough nut to crack. Sometimes it's a bad thing looking at that huge hp and thinking you can do things that you can't. Anyway, I thought your RP was just fine, and not all dwarves need those brutish accents. Our characters have interacted before, and it's always been a pleasure. Good luck with everything. Ulothrye

>As far as Dhurin was concerned, I liked you tons even though I was always on >my way to bed when you'd log on.
Thanks. Yeah, I get that feeling a lot, that I just missed out on a lot of the action. My last login totalled 15 players. Not a whole lot.
>That time fighting Kaazra and Ortelot gave me some laughs. Me trying to summon >them to us and you ending up getting summoned by them. I'd be running >frantically to get to you before they did you in.
Yeah, that was fun. We had just met then, so I didn't knew how you would react. If I had known you would charge in, full of righteous wrath, I would have come back to fight them. It was a ####ty fight 1 on two, but just fine with a damage dealer at my back.
> I've played a few dwarf warriors in my time, and they're a tough nut to >crack. Sometimes it's a bad thing looking at that huge hp and thinking you can >do things that you can't.
That's so true. I remember going up against this giant/sword spec or other with 1300 hps and just get bashed to death thinking 'Eh, I should be able to do better than this'.
>Anyway, I thought your RP was just fine, and not >all dwarves need those brutish accents. Our characters have interacted before, >and it's always been a pleasure. Good luck with everything. Ulothrye
Thanks a lot. We may get to meet again with my current character depending on circumstances. I hope you have fun.

42127, Too bad there.
Posted by Feichin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I loved that whole hammers high thing. I had some similar problems with a warrior in the past, so I go and get a pile of str gear for you, and poof you are gone. :(
It's okay because when I began getting it, you took your leave and so I gave it to someone else. :)
Considering how little we interacted, I was hoping to get to know you, from what I saw the rp was fine Perhaps I just caught you in better moments?
Best of luck with your next.
P.S. Try empowerment again man. I have a feeling you would do an awesome paladin (not to disuade you from other empowerment classes, I'm sure you would do well with those too.)

I am tempted to ask for a list if you didn't get it off neutral mobs ;-) I was so frustrated with not being able to find +str gear!
>Considering how little we interacted, I was hoping >to get to know you, from what I saw the rp was fine >Perhaps I just caught you in better moments?
I guess it all depends on your expectations. I don't think I did anything really bad, but I just wasn't satisfied. I couldn't get a consistent way of talking for instance. I tried to use a few key phrases for effect, 'Hammers high', 'I reckon so', etc. I already gave some examples of good dwarves in my farewell.
>P.S. Try empowerment again man. I have a feeling >you would do an awesome paladin (not to disuade you >from other empowerment classes, I'm sure you would do >well with those too.)
Empowement sucks. I understand the whole concept and I even agree with it, but it still sucks. I think I might have a chance catching Innis online, but I don't want to do an Innis paladin.
Have fun! I got a weapon with your name on it, I hope you will enjoy the coming fight ;-)

42147, Floating Pumpkins in Ale Barrels..
Posted by Idren on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That seems like a LONG time ago with the ale barrels and the underdark and truck and the elemental temple.. you were running around so fast and showin me so much cool stuff ... good times. I think you gave me some kickass clues to some good quest thing <snip stuff> way back when, but I lost my logs of it all bah...
So yea, I hadn't really been around for any serious amount of time in a while so I was equally surprised to see you around still, believe me. You kinda got me going again there by helping Idren up those last couple ranks then draggin him all around Thera for a couple of drinks again, heh.. though you kept hinting at me retiring ... I don't wanna sell pumpkins some place up in the hills, dammit! Ha.
Anyways, I though you RP'd superbly ... Dhurin gave me a really good mental picture of a stubborn, sometimes ornery, but really good-hearted dwarf. Seems like you were the type who would do anything to help out, but would beat your ass like a red-headed stepchild if you f'ed up ..heh ..when you were doin all that dwarfy-stuff in Mortorn, I (the real me) was sittin back laughin my ass of thinking "I can't believe this guy is actually doing all this stuff here, doesn't he know they aren't going to talk back to him!!" Simply Awesome man, I like it, seriously.
Anyways, look forward to running into you with another, take it easy...

You know, when you and Earendur didn't do what I said on the skeleton infested mountain, I sure was glad I had just gotten the last level, because it was 90% certain that I would get a mob death. Dhurin took his duty seriously and he wouldn't run if he could save a comrade. Telling that they messed up afterwards was something he took seriously too ;-)

I love Mortorn. It is such a nice area. I wasn't sure of how much of it you had seen, so I just wanted to 'up the atmosphere' a bit. I am glad you enjoyed it. Roleplay is very much a two way street. Idren and Dhurin clicked well, so it was much easier being around you.

Thanks! I didn't see you around too much, but you seemed a proper dwarf to me and all. I can understand how you don't like the goodie range right now. I don't like it either, but I'm just psychologically aligned to play goodie characters. I can't even manage a neutral. You could always take the opportunity to explore and talk to your cabalmates. Personally I find dwarf rp the funniest ever. Can't say too much right now since I haven't deleted, so good luck on all future characters. Play a paladin. They are awesome. You have a good attitude there, which is more than can be said for many people. I'm sure you'll make a very good char some time :)

>You could always take the >opportunity to explore and talk to your cabalmates.
Yeah, I suppose I could. Exploring is somewhat limited though, because of the roleplay I choose for Dhurin. Banging into other people's houses (Insert coral palace, or similar neutral place) and killing them because you are curious, didn't fit his. I tried to get something going to go into the underdark and Yzekon, but never managed to get a proper party. It would have made a lot of sense and I would love to see those areas.
>Play a paladin. They are awesome. You have a good attitude there, which is >more than can be said for many people. I'm sure you'll make a very good char >some time
Thanks, I do think I would enjoy a paladin. I have another character now though, that I am not quite done with. Perhaps we will meet again ;-)

Glad to learn I made a decent impression. I was hoping that I could have taught you some new way of mining for ore or something like that. I was working on your character with a few other things in mind, oh well. Hope in future you choose a character that you will enjoy the role of more. And hope to see you about again soon! :-)
