25682, All good things come to an end
Posted by Drokk on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
What can I say? I had a blast. This is game is just so fun. Apart from a three week break around Christmas I basically played Drokk every chance I got. The main reason that I deleted was that at best of times my role-play was shallow. I just couldn't find something I was comfortable with. After 150 hours I realized there was a number of help files on fire giants. They did not exactly match with how I had played so far, but made perfect sense. I tried to adapt my style to be more in line with the help file, but in the end I was just a human who didn't take things seriously in a funny suit. I'd rather leave now and think of something more interesting and consistent than be booted from the cabal.
I had set a number of goals with Drokk, most of which I met. I wanted to hero, I wanted to learn a number of areas, especially with regards to regearing but also to find boosters (stone skin and all that) and I wanted to be in a cabal. I choose Scion because I thought it would be the cabal where I could learn the most. With my previous character Rhazgal I wanted to be in Battle. I see Battle as the perfect newbie cabal. You have a very clear goal, specific rules but some freedom nonetheless and no need of gold or knowledge of magical boosters. But due to my playing hours (I think this is the main reason, though of course my suckiness may have played a larger part than I like to think ;-) ) Rhazgal was not that fun. After having played Rhazgal for about 100 hours and getting nowhere nearer to get into Battle, I deleted and made Drokk instead.
Drokk was about learning to stand on my own two feet. Apart from getting levels I was alone most of the time. I learned a _lot_. Before level 40 I would just get tooled by everybody and his old mother. I think I had one PK before 40. Getting to level 40 was reasonably easy. Getting to hero from level 43 was a nightmare. I just got killed repeatedly by Fortress and Empire. I mob died 5 times at level 44 (or perhaps it was 46, I don't remember) for instance getting paralyzed while fighting some mobile, ending up in a death trap after unghosting and so on. When I finally made it to hero, things started to improve immensely. I now had a basic grasp on how to utilize my strengths and weaknesses. I actually killed a few people too. I think I ended up with a PK ratio of 30-40 %, which is fine with me.
I think the scion cabal is very cool. Unfortunately, it takes a little more finesse than I was able to employ at this time. The cabal is made for mages and priests, but it was great having a nightwalker. It was nice in PK because it might slow down my opponents and it was extremely useful while regearing. I'd like to try the scion cabal again sometime but as a mage or priest or at least someone better suited to its style than a dumb fire giant.
I'll post farewells separately
Thanks for a great game.

I had the pleasure of interacting with a lot of people either through fighting, grouping or just plain talking. I will mention some of them below.
SCIONS: Well, the scion cabal is not the place to look for love and support, but all the same there was some pretty nice people around. You know who you are. Thanks for all the help.
Eta: I have already said what I wanted in your goodbye thread. But thanks again.
Jyslin, you are very cool. I remember my interview with you in Udgaard. I was just like....uh...this is gross. Very appropriate for the cabal. You are arrogant, insistent and wants to be in charge. Good stuff. You sure knew what you are doing as a healer. The finest support I ever got. That time in Yzekon when things were looking bleak, you just kept a cool head and saved the day. Way to go. A shame that we never got to fight other players that much. Having fought a few players with a healer to back them up, I know it makes a world of difference. Good luck with the chasm.
Diiafd, we grouped a lot. I enjoyed it.
Ilvarra (sp?), you were so cool. You evil bitch, you. Those times where you mocked me taught me a lot.
Refuligan, total badass.
Lathellas, Kwalin. You guys showed me some interesting places.
Inelour, I would have liked to run around with you when you became spectre, but it wasn't to be. You seemed pretty cool as well.
Malesomething, conjurer. You were very interesting. I hope you continue to play, I think it is a month or so since we last met.
EMPIRE: My primary enemies. Thanks for all the fun fights.
Njaal, it was fun, both the fights and your gospel drivel. And, it turned out that you were right that time in the ruined city.
Laes, I guess I was just plain lucky. 6 assassination attempts and none of them worked. That time in the battle village where I was about to fight Jinroh was pure chaos. I had hired Liehah and suddenly she brings a lot of other people (her group in turns out). One of them attacks my nightwalker, I am considering whether I should just kill the moron there, but hesitates, since I haven't figured out what is going on. I have no protections. You try the assassination and then Jinroh attacks. Ouch.
The rest of you see above.
FORTRESS: When I was trying to hero, you guys would just tool me. When I did hero, I didn't get to fight you that much. I guess it was a matter of changed playing times, but it was a shame.
A special mention to dwarf paladins. Ouch, you are tough. At least for a rookie like me. It was fun fighting Glaubursto (sp?). I became almost friendly with you, another example of bad roleplay on my behalf.
Brulig, Hykroln, we fough each other a lot but I already mentioned that in your farewell threads. Thanks for the fun.
BATTLE:
Jinroh, you are way cool. Both in RP and PK. Hats off to you for taking the 'I do what I do on my own' so far. You taught me a lot about warriors. With my limited experience I think you are a very good leader for battle. I would have loved to have a character in the cabal under you. Best of luck to you in particular and the cabal in general.
Some battle who shall remain nameless: Why should you care if everybody is hunting you? You are a raging barbarian, show them what it is about instead of skulking away like a dog with its tail between its legs. You seemed to do this repeatedly, but then I may just have caught you at some bad times.
OTHERS:
Oh, and thanks to the immortal who gave me the legacy point along with a pat on the shoulder. It was about that time that I was feeling I was getting the hang of some things, so the timing was perfect ;-)
Verios: Thanks for the shields and equipment runs.
Elisto: My friend. You were always fun to hang around. I knew I couldn't get too buddy buddy with the scions, so it was nice to have an independent who could act as a friend.
Feel free to respond if you have something to say. Because you weren't mentioned doesn't mean I didn't like you.

I enjoyed our battles immensely, mainly because you were willing to fight me alone, which so many do not. I saw you evolve in your understanding as a warrior, both with your specs, your nightwalker, and how they effected me and my specs, and such. Each battle we had, even though you may have lost, you came back, and saw you learned a little from the last fight.
I beat you up a lot, but in the end you finally got me. Although I will say I have no idea how you did, but I will explain that more when I am gone. It was great fighting you and showing you some things as well as you showing me some things. Those are the fights and players I play the game for, those willing to do it one on one. Thanks for that.
Good luck with your next.

>EMPIRE: >My primary enemies. Thanks for all the fun fights.
Care to explain why it was so?
>Laes, I guess I was just plain lucky. 6 assassination attempts >and none of them worked.
Are you sure there were six? I remember only three - one near Battle cabal, one inside it and one in Arkham. I still have no idea on how this assassination thing really works, but I think luck was also involved.
>That time in the battle village where I was about to fight Jinroh >was pure chaos. I had hired Liehah and suddenly she brings a >lot of other people (her group in turns out). Yes, this has been perhaps the most confusing fight I've ever took part in. A rager warrior, a scion warrior and an imperial assassin (supposedly, all are enemies to each other). Neutral invoker comes to help, and brings an outlander ranger to help a scion raid. The fight itself was pretty funny too - ranger recovered from stunned state and got away, so nobody really died. JFYI, Jinroh and me both turned on Thorogarn after you got away.
All in all, good job. I was thinking to myself, "What's this guy thinking? He has most of hero PK range against him. He must be really good to survive it". You demonstrated alot of skill during our fights, and I almost always had to run. Well done.

Well, since a lot about the scion cabal seems to be something which should be experienced in game, I won't go into detail. Suffice to say that the way I/Drokk percieved the prophecy of the eternal night, the empire was the greatest obstacle to realising it. I could be way off here, but I was often surprised at how buddy buddy some of the other scions seemed with Empire.
>Are you sure there were six? I remember only three - one near >Battle cabal, one inside it and one in Arkham. I still have >no idea on how this assassination thing really works, but I >think luck was also involved.
I have gone through my notes and on second inspection it turned out there was only four. The three you mentioned and once in the past. Actually, I don't remember so well, so I usually write down what happened after each login.

Thank you for the kind words. For your information, I died. A lot. But it was fun and I learned a lot. I pride myself on being smarter than the average guy, but I have a lot to learn here! As for surviving. Well, I found it much easier to survive than actually kill someone. flee; quaff teleportation doesn't take that much skill ;-)

I knew you as Hykroln and now another character and I thought you were a class act (out of character) while still being an evil scion somehow. Was fun fighting you, your spec legacy combo was actually very very powerful, boneshatter impale is pretty dangerous against another warrior. Hykroln had no chance unless he spent hours trying to find + strength stuff. I fought you just a couple days ago under odd circumstances and you tooled me (as we both knew you would). The funny part was the talk after, your character did have a lot of trouble staying evil when others were nice to him. If I could make a suggestion, play a mage before playing a priest, having to keep up great rp with your priest while you're learning the changes from a warrior is kind of tough. As Jinroh said, you're the kind of players that keep this game fun for the most part. Good luck on your next.

makes me feel bad I didn't stick around a bit longer with the character, but I came up with this cool concept i had to try out. I thought you were a solid warrior, through and through, and did take note of the fact that you were somewhat of a loner, which garners a fair amount of respect from me to you, as players. Well done.

We had many fights from your early 40s and up to hero. Perhaps the first time i noticed such an increase in skill in an opponent. I think you learnt much from hanging in there instead deleting around 43 as many would have done. You took it to the next level. Well done, and good luck with your next.

It was nice fighting you, you were one of the few warriors I met that didn't rely on hit/damroll and bash to win. Well done, too bad I have been busy of late, which severely reduced my playing times.

You were about the only evil person I spent much time with, and I always had that doubt as to whether I would get bashed or not. Was good to travel and explore with you, my character tried to get Paladins to group with us, but they just never would!
