Well it's taken me long enough, I suppose...but you did a good job man...I was a little uncertain about you changing from me to Grummi, but after you chatted with Garenth and Grummi and they liked it (I was watching the Garenth interview) I was down with it.

As a Maran you were interesting, but for the most part a good example of what I'm looking for. Good job, and good luck with your next character.

I have some more logs somewhere of the grummy conversion I think,
like me having none of my quest items after getting hosed by reddyn I think. He was pretty understanding, and cut some of them. I wasn't even sure what I was supposed to be getting, he gave me a bag of stuff, but he's always handing out random stuff to me (worms, grubs, swordfishnoses(which I used to help tank for lowbies :)).

We never did get them dragons. Oh well. *sigh* I had fun with you. You're one of the many characters I love to watch develop. Most people think I'm insane, a baron, or whatnot for talking to lowbies, but it's worth it. Never did figure out why you were in that cave. Then later it was trouble when I saved you from Hejduk and friends, them not actually knowing I was there until it didn't matter anymore.
I'd say you played it to a T, but you didn't, from how I saw you. There was the shokite Dwimmers who wouldn't join maran, but got nifty gifts from Shokai, then there was the Slufite Dwimmers who joined Marancabal. Go figure. It was always nice to talk to you, such an interesting character. (Though I swear your saying "It's been so long, great to see you!" crashed the mud on more than one occasion. *points at Dwimmers and calls the imms*)

Quietly, the familiar figure entered the bar. Normally, he was loud,
even crude while there, always drinking. Today he was solemn and stern. Wordlessly,
he gathers the attention of the herald, and pulls her to the side.

The Tale-Telling Fire
A huge gray stone fireplace lies in the west wall. Small statues sit atop a
thick oaken mantle; their shadows dance against the wall in the fire's
light. The fire seems to move with a beat of its own, slow and rhythmic,
moving back and forth. Despite its large size the fire barely whispers a
crackle and its heat only surrounds you in a warm glow. Plush couches and
chairs surround the fire and a large rug covers the floor. As if respecting
the tales to be told, the noise from the rest of the inn also seems to quiet
and dim to a dull mutter. A painting hangs above the mantle, swirling
with colors. People sing and dance to the east in a cleared area. To the
north more soft chairs and tables sit about while to the south lie long
tables stacked with food.


Pasha is here.
A stout dwarf bouncer hefts his cudgel and looks for trouble.
Resting in a deep chair by the fire an ancient dwarf opens his eyes and
motions for you to sit and listen to a tale.

You nod.
Pasha lets a breath out, and nods.
Pasha says 'yeah?..'
Pasha scratches at her forehead a bit, and shakes her head.
Dwimmerling slowly draws his sword, and cuts his braid off just below the ears

Dwimmerling reaches down and kisses Pasha gently on the lips.

He walked from there to the stump. A long trek, but he took it slowly, surveying the
land as though he were treasureing it for the last time. As the sun set, he reached the
sacred clearing, and stood silent, looking at it's carved surface and mutilated visage.
Wordlessly he drives his shimmerling white broadsword deeply into it, the only act
of violence and force he has commited yet on his most solemn of days.

For those of you who didn't have the benifit of Dwimmerlings orgins, I'll repeat them
here. He left his family and community when he was very young, feeling his humble roots
in a farming community did not convey the worldliness he wanted to ultimately have. He
spent many years as a beggar, and at different times in his life spoke of living in Akan,
Dagdhan, and ofcol, before it was sieged. It was in this last city, that he finally had
some epiphany of what he was to do with his life. He was present for the invasion, and hiding,
when he was felt a firm hand on his shoulder. He looked up to see a storm giang, wearing a
gray cloak, staring out over the carnage. The paladin looked down at him, and raised on
commanding finger and aimed it at tar valon. Dwimmerling took off, looking back to see the
maran of the time, Balrahd, Varital, Amadioru, and Aluria met the oncoming force.
He made his way to the paladins guild, enrolled, and set out to be a maran.
Dwimmerling saw himself as more of a priest than a brigadier, so he chose to not apply
to the fortress. He spent a lot of time by himself, wandering, and trying to build his skills
so that perhaps when he did feel he could be part of the fortress, he would be knowledgable
and skilled enough to be of consequence (oops). Dwimmerling found Lord Shokais temple, and
at the twenty-fourth rank was empowered. He recieved two greater blessings before he became
hero, with one other event of consequence in this period of his life. He met a fire giant,
Yetharien, in the temple of the phoenix. At first Dwimmerling was hostile, and demanded the
giants bussiness on pain of, well nothing really, because dwimmerling could not harm himself
to hurt one so young, but still he was mean. The giant told of his wish to convert. Dwimmerling
apologized, and begged the giants forgiveness, armored him, and did not think of him for some
time.
Some time later, the two met again, and the Fire Giant asked Dwimmerling 'So many in
my guild scorn me, and think I am turning to the light only to betray my new comrades to
the darkness, why do you accept me?'
Dwimmerling replied 'I have found that the darkness of a person must be measured with
more than a cursory glance. I have interrogated you, judged you, and found you worthy of my
respect, and until you prove that I am wrong in my assumption, this is what I shall stand
firmly behind'.
Shortly therafter, a new immortal was seen in thera.

Dwimmerling spent some time thinking about these two events, and the correlation
between them. At the same time, it seems Lord Shokai's presence was diminished in the realms,
so Dwimmerling sought out this unlikely god for guidance. They spoke at length one night,
beneath the sea, and Dwimmerling decided he understood now what had been fated for him.
At length he begged leave of the church of the phoenix, and found the stump.


Grumorum says 'Wait, hold on.'
Grumorum says 'Ok, go ahead.'

Briefly he lost some of his power, but soon found a way to prove to his lord his
worth, and regained what he had lost. Unfortunately, he never had a chance to relearn it all.
After some time, exploring, and adventures, Dwimmerling came to the conclusion that
he always helped the fortress, he acted like a maran most of the time, and by the precepts of
his religion that made him one already! He quickly applied to the cabal, and shortly after was
inducted, changing other peoples truthes about him being a maran to be more like his.
Thus began his short an unillustrious career as a maran. He raided, he defended,
he hunted some, though it still churned his stomach and he found himself seeking absolution
constantly. More and more he wished to transcend, to that place where Lord Shokai had taken him
to induct him into the brigade. Finally, he decided it was time, before he lost his
identity in being one of the fortress dwellers, and resigned himself to anonymity. . .

I'll do goodbyes now I guess.

Grumorum: I think I saw you're prototype. A couple days before you showed up, I was with
a party in the weald, and we saw a npc svirf with a red aura who acted kind of like you.
Maybe it wasn't but I was curious as to wether it was. Great religion, very discordianesque.
You're religion is fun, you are great to interact with, and quickly have become my favorite
immortal. You may have another stump-crusader someday, if I ever play a paladin again. This
religion also opened up a lot of doors for me, I could act really casual compared to how
I felt I had to act as a maran, and justify it. I always followed the code though.

Shokai: I play a lot of followers of the phoenix, you have always given me a good idea
for character foundation, but I decided a little to late this time that it is time for me
to try something else. That is how I am going to get better at this game. Goodie paladins
who help everyone and hunt a lot don't learn areas or get much better at stuff. You gave me
awesome virtues, that combo is really, really strong and in the hands of a more apt player,
I think Dwimmerling would have been a lot more deathly. When we did interact, it was great.

Dwimm got rolled the day after aluria bought it.

I really liked paladins, really really liked, with the right virtues, a shield spec
paladin is nearly untouchable, and I thought remained interesting despite 'everything
being done for you'. I have several unbelieveable gang bangs of me logged where I last
way longer than I should have.

My only two regrets are that grummy wasnt a god when I started, and that
I joined the fort, because cabal politics make my characters totally uninteresting to me.
Don't know what possessed me to do that.

Also, I am way older than Aluria was when she con died, which I consider a great improvement

I almost felt bad for it. But it was just so damn funny. Then when you saw me at the inn a couple of days later. You pointed at me and said ' Argghh its him ' or something like that. Those where my only two interactions with you and it made me really like your character. Funny how such a simple interaction can make such a lasting impression. Good luck with your next.

Sorry, I didn't have time to engage in a lengthy conversation after out battle. Actually I do not remember our encounter at all. This must have been at the time where I was heavily outnumbered and always on the move, otherwise I might have spoken some more. I know I didn't respond exactly as you say I did but I can see how you may have took my words to have that meaning. My job is pretty well defined and needs little elaboration. If you wanted to discuss religions, then you may want to approach me differently next time. I do enjoy getting into disucussions about religions but not too often. I am the Flame of the Scarab, not the Voice, as such, I do not think I am the best at preaching (though I try). I am more of an actions man really. Again, sorry you felt cheated. Maybe we will meet again.

Heh, forgot about that one, yeah it was me. And I will approach you differently next time. I seem to remember I was killed near the fort, so I think it likely you were on the way to raid (this is WAAAAAAAAY before I even changed to stumpism), so you probably didn't have time for me.

I can remember when the thought of joining the Maran had just entered your mind. Anyway. I thought Dwimmerling was very well roleplayed and fun to be with, and in general had a great attitude about everything, including insults. You just take care and good luck.

I saw myself con dying him too, and I really didn't have the patience to do it with him. Aluria was great until I got into maran, then it was like I was throwing a rubber ball against a wall. I couldn't take time to do what I wanted, it was always cabal politics.

I really hate the zealous boring paladin thingy style, and was for a while contemplating odd ways of putting a paladin into entropy ( that'd been interesting ), and then you come along and prooves that paladins can be all smurfy, if you wish to. really well played char and all that.

It was great. I could find a way to justify just about everything, and while I always acted within the parameters of the paladins code, Dwimmerling never really payed much attention to it. It was just the kind of person he liked to be, he liked to have an affect on the people he met, and he rathered it was posative.

swearing with a paladin makes me feel dirty, in a good way.
