1856, Role
Posted by Dariana (Guest) on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Your role is: Added Wed Aug 23 10:57:02 2000 at level 6: Shalanda was a Storm Giant, a young child, hailing from the stormy waters of the Arynth Ocean. She was a wild and untamed spirit, like most of the children of her race, perhaps a bit more headstrong then the rest. She wandered the Ocean with little fear, for the Storm giants of the Arynth are widespread, and protect their young with zeal. She delighted in playing pranks and tricks on her elders, slipping seaweed into their drinks, dropping live fish into their garments, chasing the younger children into the whirlpool, but they merely smiled, shook their heads, and went about their daily lives, all the while keeping a watchful eye out for her pranks to make sure she never went too far. It was truly unfortunate that none of her elders were around when she wandered too far from her people and encountered the sea dragon. It was over quickly, the dragon only requiring one swipe of his claw to destroy her life before it could really begin. The elders came upon her broken and crumpled body, and were quite surprised to find that life still clung to it, however faintly. They carried her to a large mat of seaweed that floats always near the center of the Ocean, and there they lay her. Over time, her body healed, but her eyes remained blank and focused inward on things they could not see. She was alive, of course, and aware, but trapped inside her mind. Every day she prayed to the Storm God to release her from her prison, but as the years went by, she began to despair.
Kitledard was a strange dwarf, daughter to a priestess and miner of Akan, who grew up with a passion for the sea, and a hatred for what she thought to be the most backward city in the world. She dreamed, both day and night, of the faraway lands and distant shores the tale-tellers in the Inn spoke of. Her parents despaired, pleading with her to remove these silly notions from her head, and choose a trade of some sort. Her answer was to run away, to follow her dreams. They led her to Hamsah, where she quickly found that her romantic dreams were just that, and the harsh reality of life on the streets was hers to face. Her life was not a pleasant one, and she grew to hate the filth and squalor of the city with unbridled passion. She never lost her love for the sea, however, and at her first opportunity, she signed on with a cargo sloop that plied the lucrative trade routes between Hamsah, Arkham and Seantryn. As a deckhand, the work was hard, but the fresh sea air and the sound of the waves at night only served to reinforce her love of the ocean, even as she feared the dark waters as she feared death itself. This was her trade for many years, until the storm came and killed her. The ship was caught out far from land, and crushed easily between the mighty waves and an isolated reef. It went down in minutes, tossing her into the cold waters of the Arynth, dragging her down below the waves. She knew death had come for her at last, and her dying thoughts were a prayer to the Storm god to give her death a greater meaning.
Dariana awoke as if from a great sleep. She found herself lying on a bed of seaweed on a great ocean. Her mind was filled with a haze of images that quickly faded, leaving her with...nothing. Nothing save the image of a calm, sad looking storm giant, who whispered that her life belonged to the Storm now. She gently touched her hand to her head, where a long scar twisted the flesh, and gazed in wonder at the intricate tattoos that covered her arms (because of the tattoos, Dariana will never wear things on her arms to cover them). Although her past was shrouded in mist, she knew her future that lay before her, and she set out across the waves to her destiny.
Added Wed Oct 11 06:42:03 2000 at level 20: Dariana was slain by an assassin, whom she had never seen before. She realized that this was due to her woeful lack of learning, and vowed to practice the skills and supplications granted to her by the Storm until she felt confident that she would not fall as easily. She does the Storm no good as a corpse. She has also realized that she must be a bit older in order to take a more active role against the cities, beyond preaching to the inhabitants. Soon, she will resume her calling.
Added Sun Nov 19 08:44:24 2000 at level 30: In an effort to make the cities less friendly to people, and thus reduce the sway they hold over the citizens of Thera, Dariana has chosen to focus her current efforts on the guards of the various cities. Understanding that they are inherently good at heart, just misguided, she will attempt to lead them to a place in the woods where they can meditate on the beauty and bounty of the natural world that surrounds their artificial one.
Added Sat Dec 16 09:35:10 2000 at level 35: Dariana has spoken with the Chaos Lord several times now, each time learning more about the Chaos of the Storm and how it affects both her life and the lives of all Therans. She now feels that she has an understanding of how the Storm will guide her. Namely, it provides a framework, a background, for her life, but since everyone views the Storm differently, based on what they hope to see in it, she is the one who will ultimately guide her own destiny. She has now started to preach the message that the Storm wishes to be sent, namely that the cities provide only a false haven, and instead limit the dwellers within in their ability to choose a free path for themselves by their restrictions. Since the will of the Storm, as viewed by Dariana, is to provide everyone the chance to gaze into it and forge their own destinies, the cities are incompatible with this and must be destroyed.
Added Wed May 2 07:32:30 2001 at level 51: The Storm has charged Dariana with the purging of those who would mock its works, those who would undo the things that Dariana has pledged her life to, those who would stand in the way of the Storm. As such, most of the Tribunal are thus, as well as the Scions of Eternal Night. The Tribunal by their very nature and existence serve to block the Storm from its path, although some few members understand the Storm. The Scions, for the most part, serve only to mock the Storm, as well as Dariana, and seek to strike at her at every opportunity. Those that serve the Storm (the criminals among their ranks) Dariana has less of a problem with, but even so, many of them are not aware that their activities make the cities unsafe, which parallels the goals of the Storm. Instead, they prey on the weak and commit their crimes out of greed.
Dariana believes that those who seek shelter and protection in the cities do so at their peril. Their reliance upon others for their basic needs (be it food from a merchant, swords from an armoror, or protection from a guildguard or Tribunal) stunts their growth, and weakens them, making them easy prey for those who would make them a victim. To leave the false protections of the city, to face the dangers of the wilds on their own terms, utilizing their own skills, will ultimately make them stronger, and will benefit Thera as well. So she seeks to remove the protections from the cities, be they guildguards or city guards, Tribunals or merchants. It is for the greater good of all the world.
Dariana is of the Light. She believes that her work ultimately benefits those who heed the call of the Storm. She does not like to take the lives of those she fights, who are of the Light, be they guards or Tribunals. But she will do so if pressed.
Added Thu May 31 17:42:24 2001 at level 51: This day Dariana fell to Gormarn, the Vindicator. That in and of itself is of little consequence, but he had the aid of Malcore, another of the Tribunal to slay her. Dariana felt that was a breach of the unwritten "rules" between the two of them. Perhaps she should not have expected him to view their battles in the same way, as things of beauty and power, as things that transcended the both of them, as things that were of greater meaning than the two that actually dealt the blows. Perhaps she was wrong...or perhaps she was right. Dariana took the aid of another and returned to the foul city of Galadon where they set upon and slew the Vindicator, in much the same manner as he had slain Dariana. His anger was fearsome to behold. His shame too was felt by Dariana, if it was largely unspoken. He questioned if he were worthy to continue his work, and demanded to meet Dariana immediately so he might prove his worth by serving the thing he called a "warrant". When pressed, he stated that if he were unable to serve this "warrant", he would not continue his work. Dariana could not have this. For his is as necessary a thing to the work of the Storm as anything Dariana has come upon in her travels. A foe to be feared, a worthy enemy, a shining example of the wrong that the cities, and the search for justice, can do to the soul of a man. Dariana would never break him completely while she feels that he can be brought back into the embrace of the Storm. So she fought, but poorly, and lost. She does not think he believed her when she told him that she did try, but he believed her just enough to perhaps doubt what it is he seeks from life. So perhaps Dariana won after all. Time will tell. In any case, the conflict between them has returned to the level it was before this day. For that, Dariana is glad. For Gormarn is many things to Dariana. But above all, he is a friend, and a kindred soul to her inside. Strange, is it not?

I happened to be in Galadon in a non-visible kind of way a few times when you arrived to give your sermons. I liked how you handled the doomsayer role, and I enjoyed listening to your speeches. Nicely done there.

1858, Farewell
Posted by Dariana (Guest) on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I truly enjoyed playing Dariana, from my interactions with other characters to exploring a bit more of the MUD to experiencing my first taste of preaching a religion that I grew to understand and appreciate more and more as I went on. I really got into the character...even now, its hard for me to type 'I' and 'me'. I wasn't tired of playing Dariana; I just sort of ran out of enough time to continue to make a positive impact on the game and the religion, so I figured it was time to step down.
I don't have a lot of farewells, mostly because I don't take notes, and my memory is so bad its laughable. But here goes.
Imms: Uller, you have an amazing religion, one that seems so simple on the surface, yet is extremely complex beneath, and allows for a nearly infinite number of variations on it. I was constantly surprised by the number of sphere Storm Uller followers that just "didn't get it", or just played it halfway. I hope I did the religion justice. Thanks for the title, and all the immteraction. Your tattoo is awesome; I would say hands down the best in the game for conveying the sense of the religion.
Pico, you confused the hell out of me the first time we spoke, which I sort of expected. But the more I talked with you, the more I began to understand how to convey to you Dariana's particular brand and/or style of Chaos. It was gratifying to me to finally grasp one small piece of the puzzle, and get inducted. My first Entropy in seven years of playing; thanks for the induction, and I'm glad I didn't disappoint.
Grumorum and Mayesha, both of you do a fine job of RPing your particular brands of Chaos. My interactions with you always left me scratching my head.
Nepenthe (if you still exist): Your areas are amazing. I thought I knew them; I was wrong. You must have made the Lair when you were going through your Paladin/Shaman phase.
All Imms: Amazing game. Even though you know this, it is still worth saying. Thanks for your time.
Entropy: Iriogam, you were awesome. I'm sorry to see you delete, but I'm glad you felt the same way about our conversations as I did. Naz, you were pretty much the only other Entropy Dariana ever saw on, and I thought you were very solid. Getting that ring of regeneration while doppeled as Dariana was one of the most classic things I have ever seen on CF. I had to stop playing I was laughing so hard. It's moments like those...
Tribunal: Gormarn, you were Dariana's foil, and any given battle between us could have gone either way. You were the only Tribunal Dariana ever worried about. Fellicitania, you can come out now. I, as a player, just couldn't bring myself to kill you after the first couple of times. I had a hard time with that in character, though, but it seemed the right thing to do. Malcore, you were smart. Zieth, I know you felt bad about killing me after I dropped link, but that's the breaks. No, you couldn't have done it otherwise. No, I wouldn't have killed you either. I tried like hell to avoid killing any good aligned Tribunals; I think I only ever killed one, and that was to rot (bad macro typing skills on my part), and wasn't intentional. My goal was to just get you out of the way so I could do the work of the religion, and I think I succeeded in that pretty consistently. Other Tribunals, I enjoyed playing the games of cat and mouse through the streets of Galadon, frustrating some of you, making others of you mad, teaching all of you a thing or two about your job. Some of you pissed me off with the things you said; those of you who actually wondered "Why?" I always talked to. It was always fun for me, and I loved the general yells of the populace for me to "Shut up and go away!". Those I would gibberish.
By the way, I love the fact that the beggars are coded to yell like they do.
Sylvan: No, I was not Sylvan. I always had a soft spot in my heart for the Warders, but the religion and the Cabal are more often than not at odds with each other. Or at least they don't always follow the same path. Dariana was never about protecting nature; with her, it was always about destroying the cities. So that's where she spent the majority of her time. Feirhuld, you were without peer. Plyate, always a pleasure to interact with. Saldradien, an excellent job doing what I described above - balancing the Cabal and religion. Best of luck to you. Murchadha, exploring with you was always fun. The Silent Tower is hard to explore with a Shaman and a Healer. But you know this.
Scions: Since the Tribunal weren't much of a challenge, I had to look elsewhere for enemies. Thanks for attacking me so much; it made it really easy to justify going after you. I hated volley. Tikar, I fed your axe at least three times. Lokilith, you were amazing, both in RP (what I saw of it) and in your gaming skill. I don't think either of us would ever be able to successfully kill the other solo. Astirath, I really disliked you, but you know how to play a bard well, so you were always a challenge. The rest of you were a mixed bag; some good, some not so good; always fun to go up against.
Nexus: Interesting concept. It must be pretty hard for you guys to make friends. Every time even one of you attacked me, I took it out on the whole Cabal. But I generally left you alone.
I didn't really interact with the other Cabals. Our goals didn't really overlap much more than on the fringes. But to everyone else (including you, Dwimmerling), a hearty "Thanks!" for making the character memorable.
I took the name from the Cake song, 'Daria'. Just added the 'na'. Always liked that name.
I'll post my role, separately, for anyone who wants to see it. It never won the Role Contest, but I always entered. Anyway, enough good for now. Back to evil.

Not many people I met were as fun as you were, or as good at knowing where things were at, playing an interesting personality, and also ended with a decent pk ratio (not me, ask my friends). Dwim really liked you, and grumorum told me he felt sorry for me (meaning something I suppose).
Good job, learned a lot from you, sorry you have to play an evil next.
I don't hang with the fortress crowd, so don't multikill me to bad. ..

ewwww i spoke to just once and immediately marked your cards as "sucks ass".
Dariana yells "the storm is coming" (or something similar) Dariana raids a few guilds Dariana leaves town tell dariana "Is that it, is that your storm? That was more like a mild gust" dariana tells you "lame line about the storm, you don't understand the storm"
...and that was about it...
it was all i ever saw of you, raid a few guilds and act like it was something heavy mental
sorry, i just had to be a downer, but when you say other Uller followers just "didn't get it" i'm scared, having met you i wonder what they are like

I had very little interaction with you, but from what I saw you were a great follower of Uller, but a really bad Baron. I mean, how freaking chaotic is it when you see Dariana, and think to yourself "ok, any minute now, she'll be attacking guildguards and yelling crap about the Storm" and be right every time? All in all you were really freaking irritating to be in town with. (Which is why I said you were a good Ullerite. Drive em out of the towns however you can. Not very chaotic when it's expected of you tho.)

Thanks.

Uh-oh.
>I mean, how freaking chaotic is it when you see Dariana, and >think to yourself "ok, any minute now, she'll be attacking >guildguards and yelling crap about the Storm" and be right >every time?
Depends on your perspective, of course, as most things do. That's what you "saw", because attacking guildguards is a very "visible" thing to do (i.e., they yell). There were times when I didn't attack the guildguards, but did other things to make the cities less comfortable or less useful, that were not quite as visible to those sitting in their guilds. I also spent roughly 50% of my time doppeled - the things I did then were much less visible.
I'll freely admit I wasn't the most Chaotic individual the MUD has ever seen. But there are many, many facets to Chaos that don't necessitate running around doing random things all the time. I was more a proponent of those than pure Chaos.
>All in all you were really freaking irritating to be in town >with. (Which is why I said you were a good Ullerite. >Drive em out of the towns however you can.
Again, thanks. I sort of enjoyed being irritating, and that was the goal.
>Not very chaotic when it's expected of you tho.)
If there was a flaw, that was it. I had to go to Galadon and preach there (that's where the people were). I spent quality time in Tar Valon preaching, as well as Hamsah, but Galadon was where it was at. So, predictably, that's where I went.
Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it.

Once, huh? You must have caught me at a bad time.

Huh, I usually took the time to speak with anyone who didn't come across as an ass, and explain to them what it was I was doing and how it served the Storm.
>it was all i ever saw of you, raid a few >guilds and act like it was something heavy mental
While I do appreciate the feedback, if you only spoke to me once, and only saw me raid guilds, how could you possibly know if I acted like what I was doing was something "heavy mental"?
>sorry, i just had to be a downer, but when you >say other Uller followers just "didn't get it" i'm scared, >having met you i wonder what they are like
To judge the depth of Uller's religion on my attacking guildguards and speaking with me once seems pretty trite. Like I said above, the religion seems shallow on the surface (i.e., what you saw), but is extremely complex beneath (the various restrictions it places on you as a player, both in the places you can go and the things you can do, the RP opportunities, etc.) Pretty much everyone gets the "smash the cities" part down pat, but tends to not carry through with the restrictions placed on you because of the religion. That's what I was trying to get across.
Don't apologize. This is good feedback, and what it tells me is I wasn't able to get to everyone IC who expressed an interest in what it was I was doing, and explain it well enough so that they would at least understand, if not agree. Very few agreed, but a surprising number at least said they understood.

Nicely done. I have to somewhat echo Pico with this that you didn't start out great, but by the end you were the best follower I have had. You had a myriad of different ways to drive people out of the city, ranging from attacking them to just making the city an unpleasant place to be. Overall I think you took a pretty well defined religion and added to it, which is everything I could ask for in a high priestess. Good luck with the next character.

I was raiding scions one time...retrieving the head probably. You came up behind me, and I hadn't interacted with you before so I didn't know whether to treat you as friend or foe. Then you starting hitting the nightwalker, and a few younger scions showed up. Afterwards, you started ranting something about the fury of the storm and "blah blah" up in the imperial lands and the younger scions blew you off, made some comments. I admit that I was thinking to myself "whatever, you should have just kept your mouth shut Dariana. No need to pretend to -" but that thought was cut short when you called your tattoo (I assume) upon the imperial city. I watched (as a player "SWEET", as a character "umm...it's time to go") and all the little scions ran away, their town destroyed. It was altogether a very impressive sight - for once the empty threats that we all seem to give (especially as priests) were backed up by an inexplicable force of nature. I think that was our only interaction, but anyone who blows up an entire scion city was pretty cool in my eyes. That was really our only interaction, but it was impressive, to say the least.

I really hate good byes to someone I enjoyed interacting with believe it or not. To all those that you were not chaotic I say they weren't watching you closely enough. I remember one time you came to town and Fellicitinia and 3 newbie tribunals were there chasing you around and of course you would manage to get away everytime one of managed to catch up with you and I said Dariana would you please stop that Lady Bria is watching and you are making us look bad...so you summoned me! If that isn't chaotic what is? Any way I could go on and on but I won't. Just wanted to say well done from my point of view.

I only really travelled with you that one time, when we went to Hell for a quick run about for Sal, but it was fun. I remember trying to talk to you when you ran around Galadon spouting everything, but I either gave up or you were busy making everyone, and I mean everyone, run out of Galadon because there were no more guildguards. One of the more amusing things was healing the paladin so you couldn't kill him. I'm not sure if you realized at first that it wouldn't happen, but I was glad to see you stop. A well played character, and from what I saw, your r-p was very well done.

Well, this just sucks. By far one of my favorite characters to interact with. Of course maybe Im different in that I was actually looking for your views of the Storm to take something from you with Sal. Thanks for always being there to call on when I needed you. It's sad to see you go, but I guess as you approach the year mark with a character you start to ask yourself if you're actually contributing to the game anymore. A question I've had with Saldradien before. I can still remember quite clearly, Dariana says 'Don't eat maggots... ever' but I was in a position, and it was at that moment I realized my rp had sided more to sylvan than it had over religion. Ah well, sorry to see you go, I'll sure miss you, maybe we'll meet up again down the road. Who knows. In any case a great character, that I thoroughly enjoyed, that made the "game" fun, and that in my book is a success regardless of outcome, title, tatoo, blah blah blah. (Though generally speaking a character that can do just that will find itself with all the perks that go with it.) Best of luck on whatever you do next, just dont head scion, nuff of those already (mutters something bout voker tiger healer conjie combos).

Well, I have to admit interacting with you in character was a bitch sometimes since you had a habit of doppeling. Though the one fun adventure we had in Kuo Toa was interesting when we started. Laughed my butt off thinking that drinking in the game finally had a use. (Dariana doppeled me so I decided the best way to tell us apart was my slurred speech). Then again, I never needed much goading into drinking.
You were an interesting character that seem to have stuck to her role though what that was baffled me as I never did get a chance to interact with ya too much. Hope you have as much fun with your next character because you seemed to be a complex individual to understand.

Sorry to see you delete. You were one of Entropy's mainstays over the past few months and the few chances I had to observe you lately, you were doing a good job. You're also one of the reasons I never tell anyone they can't get into Entropy. I think the first time I talked with you I wasn't impressed -- you had a help file understanding of Entropy. Next time I talked with you it was better, but not that good. Then the next time you seemed to grasp it. I really like to see both the player and character develop like that and glad you persisted and made it into the cabal.
Good luck with your next character.
