Well that was fun for a while. My friend and I had always joked about heroing a felar axe/sword spec, and I finally got the time and inclination to do it.

I started from the bat, sphere deception, and I thought I worked it in well with the character. I got a rager killed by asking him about a hut while Urzkoo was en route to bash him dead. I monopolized on rager applicants thinking I was Alarin, I even sent one to pray to Niryaza for a hut. I spent a month seriously praying, and my first interaction with Niryaza was right at the beginning. She told me to get into Scion, and I did, but I didn't hear from her again for six weeks. We had conflicting playing times.

I joined Scion, but got pissed off when Jhaelryna/Darian would be in Silent Tower during a raid and not defend. I couldn't know where they were beforehand, because they never talked to me anyway. After one time of showing up when no one else did, I stopped defending.

Then I was being chased by an air form sylvan and a warlock, and I asked for help form the 3 scion heroes who were on. None responded, and I died.

That's when I told Jhaelryna to exile me on the spot.

Then I ####ed around, prayed to Niryaza, waited for something to happen. So I started going to silent tower and I tell you, it was the most fun yet most frustrating experience on CF. I'd spend hours in the tower and not die, but I wouldn't learn anything either. I couldn't find the foothold for any of the quests-I guess I'm just not good at that kind of thing.

I thought I had found a foothold by using my head and some tactics to work around a trap, but I came back next reboot and my tactics were impossible. If I hadn't had a healer with me, it would have been a deadly surprise. Even so, it was close.

I lost 6 con in the tower before I decided I was simply not making progress.

Then came the easter egg contest, which I must admit was a low point in my mudding career.

I was helping some evils rank, as I often did, only this time one was my friend OOC. When the easter egg contest came, I tagged along his locates and got some eggs, but he got more. We had it worked out that we had more than twice as many eggs as anyone else and could therefore split them up and both win.

Long after I had given up on Niryaza, she decided to interact with me, suggesting I kill Apla and take all the eggs. I didn't know what to do, I try to keep everything IC when interacting with people I know, but this was a very awkward position. So I told him on AIM what I had to do, and he said, ok, trap me somehow and kill me.

So I thought up the quickest thing I could, which really sucked, and managed to kill an invoker with only elemental weapons on me, as a felar axe/sword spec. I was so ashamed, I felt it was so obviously a set up and that I was a moron and I lost the will for the character.

So I took the prize, a legacy, which I never really used, except on Chassilia right after I got it (she died, silly invoker).

Then Fahnrore bashed me to death with Greeting, and I got full looted. I hadn't died since I left scion, so that sort of sealed it, and I sotpped playing.

Overall my pk ratio hovered around 50% my entire 200 hours. It ended with about 15 kills 15 deaths.

LEGACIES, WEAPON SPECS

Flow of Shadows: Wonderful legacy if you don't have much to do in combat. It's turn on defense.

Hour Past Midnight: It sucks unless it's what gave me 3 round flurry (1 sword wasn't what did it, I tested)

Enigma of the Thirteen: It looks like it has a lot of potential, but I didn't really explore it.

Sword: As worthless as can be expected for a felar. I jabbed a lot. Never got my flurry kill.

Axe: More useful than one might expect. An axe spec is an axe spec, and they hit hard regardless of race. I saw many rows of Demolish/Devastates. Weaponbreaker is invaluable, as is disembowel.

Overall I found it to be best to fight in group vs. group fights, because no one targetted me, ever. It left me free to weaponbreak/disembowel.

So few people realized that this character was not about a good combo, but about having fun and being unorthodox. I'd tell people just that, and they'd still ask why I chose my specs, what the hidden power in them was.

For goodbyes, I won't say anything but thanks to Brogg for hearing my story that last time I played.

Oh, and Nepenthe, I hate you in a loving sort of way. Curse your tower!

It's been a while since I've played and I'll forget so many people that if you feel you want to say something, I'll reply to that. I'd be glad to, really, I just can't remember everyone without a little jogging.

I'll post my role and description in a reply. I hope someone takes the time to read them.

Well, only fought you twice, I think. The first time was you with a bunch of scion healers and you catch me on your way to raid the grove. I think I did good, except I could not drive you away from the healers fast enough, thirsted in a place with a lot of mobs, and to top it off, you got the disembowel on me. It was a good fight I thought anyway. I cannot remember too much about the second fight we had, but I do remember trying to return your things. Both fights were really fun.

As for interacting with you, I really did not. Just the occasional what happened when we died. Wish I could have spoken with you more. Probally would have proven interesting.

I felt bad fighting you with such odds, because you showed a lot of heart, and consistantly. Because of that I tried to leave you your eq when you died.

You had one of the best background stories for your character that I've heard since I've started playing.

I don't know if you remember this, but when Sylvrin was quite young she would sit in the Inn and ask people about themselves and where they came from and whatnot. Your story of becoming a pirate was one of the best I heard and kind of endeared you to Sylvrin. Even though she is a goody, she never had any inclination to harm you in any way because your story impressed her so much and she would always greet you when she saw you in the Inn.

I remember one time she switched the eyepatch to the other side for you and you told her to watch it cuz she might put your eye out with her fingernails. That was some fun interaction and I hope you enjoyed it too. :)

I had talked to you several times, but had never seen you in person before, and the 'mate' thing threw me for a loop. Once I saw you, I had to laugh. The eye patch was the icing. A felar pirate! That was just precious.

When you asked me to team with you on the easter egg hunt, I was pretty wary. Mainly because....well...pirates can't be trusted. Heh heh heh. I guess my guts were right about that one. I figured you'd catch me when my shields fell and whoop up on me.

All of that aside, I thought that it took balls, huge skills, or utter insanity to play what you did. You did very well at it.

I wouldn't have wanted to betray you.

I think our relationship IC suffered (on my end) due to the familiarity I had with you as Aenail.

The same goes with Queesha. I could barely control myself when Queesha was talking about killing some mob which he claimed he had killed alone, when he in fact had a little help from Aenail.

Aenail was definately much more fun to be around than Alarn, but that was because his personality was very charming, and funny. As I said on Aenail's death post, he had a certain flair that kept me laughing, like the time I teleported into Corte, and you INSISTED that I be rescued. :)

Of course, I spent much more time with Aenail than I did with Alarn, but I had no idea y'all were the same player. That always makes me smile when somebody knows you with two characters, and you have no idea it happened. :)

I knew it!

I first spotted Alarn at level 20something and immediately suspected that felar axe warrior pirate was the kind of character made as a joke or on a dare. When I saw he was actually winning fights (thus, wasn't a completely clueless newbie) I was even more sure, and seeing the choice of sword for second spec clinched it.

I'm kind of curious as to what that would have been. I don't think I've personally been changing much lately, because I simply haven't had much time for CF lately.

I do love my dead gay tower.

I'm pretty sure one sword does result in a three round flurry for all. Hour Past wasn't going to do anything for you unless you were wielding an exotic.

It was a joke, yet it wasn't. I had serious ambitions, a role to play out, and a deity to follow. The only thing that was a joke were my specs, which I tried to use to the best tactical advantage.

In short, it began as a joke, and evolved into a really fun character. You're actually the reason I went ahead and made Alarn: at one point you posted something to the effect of, "Anecdotes don't mean anything in the terms of power. I have killed with a felar axe spec, and that doesn't make them overpowered."

I rolled shortly after that..

It's amazing how much you can learn, tactics wise, when you have a massive handicap. Learning to work around my deficiencies was a fun challenge.


As for my three-round flurries, it was not something everyone got. I had an arial sword spec remove one sword and flurry, and I told him to inform me immediately when he had recovered. I tested it several times, and each time was a four round flurry.

It's possible that he just consistantly failed to tell me the exact round his lag ended, but it's unlikely.

As for the silent tower, I'll drop you an e-mail. I'm kind of dissapointed to know it wasn't you, I was comforted in thinking you were watching me while I was there.

To tell you the truth, I 'was' getting three round flurries, but most times I play im high as @@@@ and just can't get the words out.. Sorry about that

Yup. Alarn definitely looked like he was having way more fun than any of the "power" optimized characters were. I was disappointed when you and Jhaelryna ended up butting heads, though I think it made sense for both characters and both sides made the right calls.

Nepenthe has pointed this sort of thing out to me a lot with recent Scions, given our eclectic collection of Lich Without Undead, Invoker Wearing Stylish Herald Gear, Potion Warrior Guy, etc. Admittedly, Alarn had them all out-ecletic-ed, but all of them look/looked fun (*), and you're precisely right about it being a good way to learn unusual strategies that you might never try on an "optimal" character.

As for flurry, any one-sword flurry is 3 rounds.

(*) I assume the players thought so as well, since they're all pretty long-lived.

I'm already back in another form, and I've definately interacted with you. You'll just have to wait a few months to find out how.

I believe I met you on eastern road, you were fighting a rager and it looked like you needed help so I hopped in. Of course, you then fled, and I had to run for the hills.

Zekasiq enjoyed traveling with you, Alarn... and always called you Sailor. The way you came to Thera was a great story, and I always looked around for you when I came on... Until I was told not to help the Scion anymore. :)

I loved Alarn, even though when he left the scions ever i didnt have that much time travelling with him ... :( I understood his emotions for doing what he did sadly enough...

I assumed you stopped liking me at some point and it really upset me. You were one of the very few I got to know in Scion and I enjoyed running with you. When you started giving me the cold shoulder I was dissapointed, but I must have misinterpretted it.

Your description is:
A felar is here, with a feral glint in his one visible eye. The eye is
somewhat alarming, not only because of its singular nature, but also because
of its peculiar shade. The brightest araile sun could be no more yellow than
this iris. The white of this most peculiar eye is not so much white as it is
red, the result of a multitude of ruptured blood vessels. His other eye is
rendered completely useless by a small patch black leather, held in place by
a cord of animal sinew.His face is covered in fine, short black hairs that
thin perceptibly around the the eyes, lips, and tip of the nose. His mouth
does not seem to ever close entirely, and the gleam of polished ivory teeth
is often visible. A mischievous grin has made its home upon his face and is
never far from where it has settled. His form is that of a fighter
well-toned muscles are easily visible from beneath the coarse black coat that

given as a gift to the Wavemistress of the Fist of the Empress, where
where he served to the best of his abilities for many years, growing
older and living a seaman's life. Surprisingly, he was an able seaman
and soon found himself promoted out of slavery.

Things took an interesting turn during a raid by the pirate ship,
Black Storm. Captured in the melee, Alarn came under the influence

yet their power immense and untapped...



And thus he has decided that he will slip his way into this organization,
this cabal of dark summoners, he will rise in power by speaking the right
things to the right people, calculating every move until he has risen to
the coveted position of Chancellor of the Scions.

The first stage of Alarn's deceptions are complete. Jhaelryna was deceived,
and Alarn brought into the fold of the Scions of the Eternal Night. By wielding

his future, Alarn delicately fabricated his answers so as not to reveal his
true designs.

to strengthen. With confidence he commands the will of others in battle,
and a potential ally has been found in Ghuljun. His opinion of the Chancellor

for the cause they claim to champion. Particularly, Darian has irritated
Alarn by refusing to even awknowledge a strike on the Archmage that was
defensible.

In his following of the mistress Niryaza he is ever-faithful, but the burden
of responsibility and battle have made his prayers difficult, if not suicidal
at times. It has been long since he has spoken to Narissa, and he wonders
if he is to be included in his mistresses' grand schemes. Regardless, he
holds true to his designs within the chasm.

As Alarn's loathing for Jhaelryna and Darian grew steadily, his patience for
for them dropped just as steadily. Realizing that the Chasm was not ripe for
his plans, he cast himself from their name in search of better vehical for his
grand designs.

Speaking to Ghuljun, he realizes that his hopes for Scion are not entirely dashed.
The lich has assured him that his sentiments are shared, and to bide his time
until the Chancellor can be dispatched.

With the young Lich secured as an ally, Alarn sets forth his designs to keep
himself alive while he bides time. With the Lich forewarned of possible strange
behavior, he sets out to adjust himself to new--and temporary--conditions.
