I steal all that shiny stuff for you and you do what??? Some of those things were like extra special too(first time I had ever actually held them in game, ever). For real though, It was fun, I hope you enjoyed it as well. One of the best prepper's in the game is a thief, you just sit back and let everyone else do the collecting, then just take it from them. Its rather nice, but I can see where it would be frustrating at the same time. I really wish you had stuck around. I'm just getting the hang of this class, and I bet it'll get even better here pretty soon. Anyway, take care, and all that. Come back to maran if you ever get the chance to come back. I give it a week into your first semester back.
Sab
p.s. Who am I gonna give all of aginal's preps to now?

14068, The Tale
Posted by Cuvitar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
There really isn't much to it. I've been needing to quit for about six years now, oddly enough, but this just looks like another part of the cycle. Classes began again this week, and I need to get focused. Unfortunately, this means no CF. Although I'm not as bad as Jagaub, I do have the horrible habit of playing incessantly and nonstop. Me and moderation simply do not mix. Thus, this.
It was a fun ride while it lasted. I never really got bored of perfecting spells. Maybe frustrated a few times, but I'm happy. I had five shields, and pebble and iceneedles were at 90%. I just never really cared enough to finish them. I'll admit that it would have been extremely useful, though.
I've never had a Maran before, even though I've been promising Khiravn I'd play 'his side' at least once. And I've never hero'd a mage, only a bunch of warriors, rangers, and shamans. That was a big learning curve. I prefer bash, in hindsight. It was a good experience, but I doubt I'll go for it again. Too against the grain.
Anyway, a few thanks to some people.
Shokai- you really are a great guy. Keep it up. Thanks for the opportunity. I'll tell you, life would have been so much easier being a Warlock, but it wouldn't have been near as fun. More mages should be in Maran.
Vynmylak- You may have taken a bit of a chance with me. Thanks. I enjoyed the few interactions, but especially the times we would retrieve/raid against odds and you'd acknowledge us doing something good. That was cool. Did you induct me?
Nepenthe- I'm glad you opened ST. I'm sorry I couldn't get in. You bring out the best in this game.
Thror- It'd have been cool to take that interaction somewhere. Oh well. I still have a soft spot for the Village.
Maran.
Alnallander- You know I love you. Keep it up man, I simply love how you play. We never really utilized our potential, but there wasn't much the two of us couldn't do. Sometimes you just have to be alone though.
Sabrian- Thieves are a love/hate type class. You played it right, and did a great job at it. Sorry I made you lead so much, but I am a bit lazy. I'm glad you got the recognition you deserve.
Others- Um, I didn't do much with any others. Abthalok, you're pretty solid. So was Ulthur. Most paladins were pretty plain though, you all just kind of blend into one. I guess that's ok.
Oh, and Yaofhil. I can't think of a better character in my years of playing. Simply amazing. Running around with you is priceless, and I loved every moment of it. Probably the best roleplayed character I've been with.
Village- Nothing special except Drahk. You really are a beast. I remember a few discussions about an arial axe zerker on irc a few years back, and I'm glad someone did it justice. No complaints on any of the other villagers. Good job.
Scion- Aginal, you're simply the best invoker in a long time, since Illijin. You were the only person I knew that could beat me one on one. And you did. I had a few scenarios where I could get you, but a lot of it was too circumstantial. Oh, and a few tricks I kept up my sleeve too. A shame I was usually hesitant to try them out. Great job though, you really impressed me.
Anith, you were weak. Maybe my expectations were a bit high, but I can't recall you ever doing anything remotely clever or even brave.
None of the other Scions really stood out. You need to lose the group pk mentality. Four or five might be a bit of an overkill, eh?
Jhalstruvv, sorry I had to kill you. Distention sucks. You had it coming though. You didn't earn what you had, and you never really risked anything. It was a good trap though.
Hlothere- We should be together. Too bad you'll never get me. I'd hug you if I could.
Warlock- I'm not too sure what to think of that bunch. You all died a lot. Some of you have your heads on straight though.
Grove- Well. At first, I tried to be at odds with you. I was lawful for a reason, and was looking for a bit of conflict to spice things up a bit. In the end though, Sassmi drew me in, and I just kind of liked you all. Sylvan needs to not rely so much on Maran though.
Sassmi, you did a great job. You're just fun to run around with. Some of you others though, I have no clue how you manage to do anything. Nunchyk was pretty cool too. And maybe a few others. But I admit, my memory is fuzzy.
Tribunal- Ugh. Go away already.
Good job Tarnyxil, by the way. You're a bit too focused on unnecessary things, but you play a mean bard. I'm sure I'll think of some other notable characters after I hit the post button, so don't feel too left out. I need to get going anyway.
One last thing. I think I died six times in one night after I had surgery. I blame the codeine. I knew I shouldn't have been playing, but I wanted to finish hero'ing while I had the down time. Well, it sucked. I remember logging on the next day and I was a Maran. I cannot even recall the interview. Sad, sad. So if I acted like a retard after Christmas, it's not my fault. :)
(Yes, Aginal, that's probably why I ran around stoneshattering you without abandon. I'm sure it was ugly.)
Goodbye. I'm sure I'll lurk around, but it's doubtful I'll play again until at least the summer. Have fun.

14082, Thats funny...
Posted by Anith on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My only memories of your charactor were on raids....we would raid, you would die, we would defend, you would die.....repeat. The rest of the time, you would be in hiding somewhere.....unless there were 3 or 4 marans logged on, then mysteriously, you would appear once again.
Aginal and I had a running joke about your skill in fighting.....Spam a spell that the other side was fully shielded agaisnt, while you get dispelled and destroyed. Oh well, I enjoyed looting your many corpses....you provided lots of them.
As far as one on one fights....unless I was shielded, I wouldnt attack you....a mongoose has no chance of beating a protected invoker.
Yeh...blame the codeine.....I would too.....

14083, Right, right.
Posted by Cuvitar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Except I never died at hero that I recall offhand. Jramur assassinated me, and other than that, all of my other post level 40 deaths were in one day. That's right.
Not that I care what you think, but if you want proof, check the forums for my posts. They're horrible. *shrug*

Hydrocodeine, morphine, some steroids, otc drowsy sinus medicine, and some swelling stuff. It wasn't fun, but never really painful. Then throw in a bit of dementia from lack of sleep.

Well, it went from me thinking "How bad do I spank him this time" to something more along the lines of "How do I catch him". You did seem to be learning however...and no, last time you died was not forty, more like 49...at hero you just never put yourself at risk. Especially once that damn thief stole a few of my things. I was so looking forward to taking them back.

14077, No
Posted by Cuvitar on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you reread what I originally posted, you'll notice I said post 40 deaths, as in all of my deaths after level 40, up to level 50. For what it's worth, you ganked me in that raid pre-maran. Then I died a bunch more that night. I died one more time to that ugly raid of you, the arcane, shaman, and maybe someone else a bit later that week.

Yep, my bad. Even I get tired sometimes, and reading is hardly the task for weary minds. But since I'm typing anyway...best fight I remember. I raided the fortress with...hrmmm...Virinahn maybe? Not sure. But you come to defend after we're already in and at the maran. Whoever was with me had to run, and me and you got each other down to writhing (although I removed my amulet and ate a fillet because of you and your shatter-happiness) and both recalled. I come back, take the hammer from the gushing watcher. Then go and fight you at the knight, where I deafen you and you tried to start zapping me with wands. You use an orb of travel, I use an orb of travel. Chased you for awhile but lost you in the rugged foothills. That I think was one fight I at least didn't think you were a pushover, and didn't run at the first dispel. Wish I had a post of it.

I have it. I'll post it when I can, it's on my computer in the dorm. I knew you had the mace, but I had given my herb away. I wish I could have greased you after dispelling, but that fight was rather chaotic. I didn't expect you back so soon, so I didn't have time to heal up fully. After that battle, I stocked up on a few more options to go against you. But I disliked fighting you until I got earthshield. A shame.

You're right about that, that's probably the only reason I haven't joined Maran.. too bad.. It was fun running around, you, Alnallander and me make a great team :) .. Anyways, good luck in class and whatever will come.. and .. see you in the fields ..

14072, Hmm
Posted by Jhal on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Yes, distention sucks.. only because between one kill and the next my range jumped from 35-44 to 42-51.. should be a bit more.. gradual?
anyway, nicely done trap, I didnt know you couldnt quaff underwater *grumbles towards hlothere*
and if I kept what I had for so very long, going against groups of two and three at a time.. how did I not deserve to keep it? only to loose it to two hero marans
anyway, I was going to plan a massive revenge, but you go off and delete
be well
peace and all that

That was a bit more harsh than I meant. I don't like that you full looted Khurmen, but that's the only slight I had against you.

Congratulations on getting into Maran, I was never sure if you made it or not.
That time in the elemental temple was... interesting to say the least. My heart was about to break it's way out of my ribcage from the rush of adrenaline. But then, can you blame me for that? :P
The duel afterwards was a good one too, even if it showed me that I needed to work on some skills and that invokers would probably be one of my greatest foes out there.
Hope you'll come back. Somehow, I don't doubt you will ;)

14070, It was a blast,
Posted by Yaofhil on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It's always a blast seeing how human women react to Yaofhil's loose tongue and rough slaps on the back. I think our interactions were some of the funnest I've had thus far with this character. Also, it's going to be a shame not having you around any more. Allied invokers are a dwarf's best friend. Anyways, well played and good luck in life.

What?! Maran younger than me can't be deleting before me now. Bah! Anyway, was good seeing you in the Fortress, you're only the second mage that I've seen in Maran in all Ulthur's time. Both were invokers, never seen any other mage classes. Warlock usually gets em, I guess. Good luck with school
