I've said most of what I had to say but I'll add something I forgot.

The lack of transmute metal to wood makes the game a lot duller because you can assemble your kit fast and after that point will never need anything you take in pk, pretty much.

Also at low levels when you can't assemble a set if you stick to Outlander values, pretty much means minimal pk.

I would suggest that transmute is brought back but only works on items that are not famous or legendary

Allowing druids to transmute everything would make them op. Well, outlander druids anyway.

I haven't played one, so maybe I'm missing something. But all it would really do is allow them to wear whatever everyone else wears - at risk that they could destroy equipment entirely.

I thought the issue was that they were transmuting equipment for everyone in the cabal, and then that equipment was being strengthened, so essentially the whole cabal had super-powered non-metal versions of every piece of equipment out there.

I could see making any transmuted item not strengthen-able, if that's a concern.

This could work:

a. Any metal item can be transmuted,
b. When an item is transmuted it receives a druid_only flag,
c. Transmuted items cannot be strengthened,
d. Transmuted items instantly crumble when a non-druid attempts to wear them.
134254, Excellent idea. nt

In my opinion Outlander druids were op before losing transmute.

Being able to transmute probably adds about 200 or so hp to the average outlander druid which makes a big difference and leaves them op.

Without transmute the low hp offsets their huge power and versatility.

My solution was designed to put their power level somewhere in between full transmute and no transmute, which I think I'd about right balance wise. Also it improves gameplay a bit at all levels.

Making transmuted items non strengthener held but since the other great is strengthened it still leaves the druid a bit op imho.

Thought of a couple other ways to handle this, but they seem ripe for abuse.

One way would be to have it so that only the transmuting druid can wear gear he or she has transmuted. But, then, that sort of nerfs his enemies' ability to loot him. If I loot the guy I can't just wear his gear, I have to destroy it then go get it from the mob again.

Another way would be to have the gear just revert to its original form when it's picked up by someone other than the druid. But, then, that allows for people to intentionally untransmute stuff, which is currently not possible.

Both of those are probably a hassle to code. Your suggestion, i.e. can only transmute items whose rarity is less than "famous", i.e. would almost surely be less work to code.
134279, Agree...

There needs to be more EQ crossover in general. Since the mid-90s, EQ has become more and more specific to class/spec/race/sex. And, like you said, it has taken away some incentive for conflict. It has been a long time since I looted anything from a corpse to use. That trend could use some reversing.

No opinion on transmute specifically. I do think that shifters should be able to wear EQ that's not made for their race/sex. I mean, they can shapeshift parts of their body!
