130323, Don't loot newbies
Posted by ThatNecro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You came and killed obvious newbie in two rounds. Okay, good boy. But looting him, even if he is evil? You took "just two items", but one was really good weapon for him, second - immreward (I believe, because I got one that way too), the charm of knowledge.
I've asked you to return things to the newcomer to this world, and you was like fu*k off, he is evil.
And I delivered you what I have promised. Next time don't be such an ass.

Newbies don't get to keep uber gear when they die just because they're newbies. It's unreasonable of you to have punished Azmund for looting stuff he can use. If he looted stuff he can't use just to punish the guy then that's a different story.
I say this as someone who makes an extra effort to help newbies out.

130331, I agree

A charm of knowledge is of real value, and I'm guessing the weapon was decent too. So this is moderate looting and not unreasonable.
The suggestion that newbies shouldn't get looted lightly is not one I agree with. And I too help news a lot (and get rewarded for it).

130327, What kind of game are you playing?
Posted by Java on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think about new players the same way I think about babies and puppies.
You have to enforce the behaviors and expectations that you want them to pick up. You don't give new players special treatment just because they're new. If you do that, you create the belief that looting is wrong and mean. Now you have a bunch of entitled newbies who are whining about losing one or two items when they die.
Instead, treat them the way you would anyone else. Take what you need, leave what you don't. There are always consequences when you die. Everyone needs to get used to that fact. The charm of knowledge is extremely useful to literally everyone. He would be stupid not to take it. And the really good weapon for him? Probably a really good weapon for most characters.
It isn't being an ass to play the game the way it's meant to be played. Being an ass is demanding that people make concessions for other players just because you say so.

130328, Wake up

Ever heard of the learning curve, dude? Coming with hero set and 30-40 AD against newbie, killing him on one round - ok. That's not great, but ok. But looting their only two good items (that you don't even really need) - that's ####.
I don't know what game do YOU play, but I would prefer to play the newbie-friendly game. And I do whatever I can to aid newbies, even if they are enemies and just ate a kill from me (if they don't tell me to f*off).

While out of PK range just to #### over a "newbie" you didn't agree with. Might want to polish that white horse of yours - sir hero ;)

130330, It's funny
Posted by ThatNecro on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It's funny how you ignore difference between veteran player, 51 village hero leader, and 11th level newbie, who doesn't know how to get to Tir Talath.
And I had a great reason to screw Grembolin, but let's leave it to my farewells. And double meh to you for the active character giveout attempt.

Well, I don't think I'd call myself a vet, since i've only been playing alittle over a year. But I am obviously much more familiar with the game and mechanics than the newbie in question. Hell, I'd have done the same thing if I was in your boat, even if it was totally annoying. It did provide me an opprotunity to win a challenging battle against the odds, without the head.. which was nice on my last day playing Grem! Also, I wasn't a leader ;)

I say any kind of behavior that someone finds ####ty warrants a full loot. Because Batman says that's how justice works.

Wow, kind of wanting to come here to be an ass huh?
Is there a newbie flag I'm missing? A poka dotted aura I should have seen? In case you missed it, I was a maran pledge at that time..he was a duergar. I ran in and tripped hoping to get him. He died. Am I suppose to interview people before I attempt to kill them?
I then take the charm of knowledge (to which I used oh no!) As well..he could have used it at any time and not have it in his inventory. That was his gamble. And I take a weapon from the corpse. You basically went off on me demanding I return his items. I respond with "Why would I wish a darkling to remained armed so that he can continue to slay the light". At which point you then tell me you are going to full loot me for such action. Eh whatever. You whined about gear that he never once said anything to me about.
But he is a newbie! Uh ok and? If I wanted to be a ####, I would have full looted, mutikilled him over and over as soon as he unghosted. Or perhaps bring another person with me so they can get in on the action? In the process of ranking up I killed him a few times but it was always when he came to where I was. Kind of have to keep with the rp, but I activaly tried to avoid him a lot of the times so I wouldnt. But hey..what a #### move.
In an attempt to try to play with a few chars I have been steamrolled by lvl 15-29 Imperials who are decked to hell over and over. More so it sucks when they pick half your body clean and then start talking ####.
So sorry for not bending over backwards to do as a necromancer tells me to do. And hey you got me in the gank and full looted. Congratz and well done (no seriously) But did you once hear me say a word, bitch, rant, or any of the stupid ####? No? Ok.
If you dont have anything to contribute to my graveyard post other then justifying you full looting, please just move along.

Sorry, I know you just got named Captain and all and you will do great.
I know dieing is part of the game and expected, but there is only so many times you can get ganked by people over and over. I only had someone come after me solo like twice, everything else was summon/sleep or summon/bash combo. The last straw which broke the back was being summoned to a 1 exit room with cents on the other side so no escape. I thought that was changed a while back but my error I guess.
It was also frustrating when all I have is mantle while others are coming at me with all sorts of things. Eyes would have helped so damn much :p but whatever.
Dont know what I would play next, but I doubt I will be back to CF. Prob just not my game anymore as it has passed me by. Good luck to everyone else out there who finds it fun.

Play a stealth class! Or something that can handle gangs! Paladin maybe.
In the situation you mentioned, shouldn't you have been able to flee into the room with the centurions and quaff from there?

I was able to, however a comedy of errors happened and I took it as a sign :)
The one who summoned was able to instantly follow and attack...but worse yet Cras was there attacking the Cents and dusted right as I walked in.
