I really wish we could have been on the other side of the coin alot more. I enjoyed the chat we had near the end (Ya deaf git! :) ) Having faced you quite a bit your ability to turn a fight was good to watch in retrospect not so great at the time :P. Great work.
GLWYN!

I had a very hard time with you, but also a lot of fun. Always ready for a fight and always classy in victory or defeat. Slippery as hell, great foe.

124426, Ain't nobody got time for that!

Never got to play that prank on you :( Nor make up for the time you came to promise of food and left still hungry.
Once or twice I tried to "help" you fix the balance while being on the wrong side of it myself. It amused me.

Yes! I was sort of hoping you'd do something to get me back from that. Talisin wasn't always the most socially understanding, and food did not register as a high priority--so I tried to be a little rude on the way out there. Must be a little lonely in the Inn these days, but I was glad when we got to hang out.
One of the more entertaining things about being a Nexun bard for me was just letting songs fly when a group of people, all on the wrong side of the balance, were fighting. Having you jump in just made it more exciting.
|
124421, I liked you.

We fought some, we hung out some, but in general i liked you around. Good stuff.

We had some fun fights, and i went from thinking oh look bard meat! to Hm talisin, time to use some wands.
I thought you were well roleplayed, fun to be interact with and tough in PK, well done.

124412, Goodbyes
Posted by silat on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So, and I think it showed, I had an absolute blast with this character. It had been some time since I played anything seriously, but I had an itch to do Nexus bard. From reading the forums, it seemed like there was a solid imperial train going, and I thought with them + villagers, I'd be able to get into a lot of fights. Plus, I hoped to do a little exploring, and figured Nexus might be a good place to do that. From the inception of the character, I had Akresius in mind--I wanted to try bard without being ganky, plus I figured the whole "don't bitch" aspect to his religion would make me a better player. This was before I even knew that Nexus was pretty much a one-man show with Marintok at the time.
I hit pretty much every one of my goals--first tat, somewhere around 100 PKs, and had a lot of fun interactions along the way. I wish I'd been able to see how the Nexus quest went, but oh well. My RP kind of tops out at mediocre--some of that's just being a more PK oriented person, and some of that is just poor skill on my part. Anyway! I'll try to keep the goodbyes brief, so sorry if I leave anyone out. Respond and I'll reply.
Akresius--you were awesome. I went into your religion mostly hoping that following you would push me as a player, getting the tattoo was just icing on the cake. Thanks for everything! Glad to see your religion is flourishing. Even though you weren't around, I did eventually fight the Rhyme. My final death was to Marintok in the Grotto.
Nexus Marintok--I could go on forever here--and have done so IC, but obviously I'm not alone in saying you were the best. You've got no idea how many times I was on with maybe one other person discussing some suicidal assault on the Empire when you logged on, and the discussion immediately became, "Wonder if they'll stay and fight?" Keep on trucking with whatever con you've got left!
Gryndelwul--Had no idea you were Twist, but obviously you knew your stuff. Because I was reluctant to gank anyone, I was a bad partner for you and some others in the Isle. I'm sure that was frustrating for the builds that weren't setup for 1v1 fights.
Nkata--Another super knowledgable thief. Thanks for everything you showed me (I tried to pass some of it along as well). I'll echo my comments to Gryn here, we really could have been a nightmare for the village together, but 2v2 fights were pretty rarely found.
Parandalia--Great to see an active Meter. Wish we had more opportunities to bond, but a bard isn't really the best bond partner anyway.
Thillquill--my suicidal, somewhat stalkerish friend (there were a bunch of things that Talisin was uncomfortable with--especially comedy and any relationships beyond "friend"). I hope you had fun learning CF!
Ahzlan--I enjoy your balls-to-the-wall ranger style. You sure racked up a bunch of enemies quickly!
Village Aoirse--Definitely the toughest villager in my lifetime. When you died, the village kind of went to pieces, which was a real shame.
Gutaklya--I know fighting me was frustrating, so I tried to offer the best advice I could (given that I've never played a successful warrior of any kind). Loved your spirit.
Keznet--Too bad you didn't stick around. Your build seemed tailor made to kick my ass at hero!
Bhelgus--I hope you can lead a village renaissance, it sure needs it right now. Honorable and tough, thumbs up all around.
Empire Nhasheli--Said it in your death thread, but I thought you were great. My only real friend within the Empire, and you took me on some fun exploration trips.
Xeneth--I never did get you, one of my regrets. You surprised me a few times with how quickly you shredded me, even when prepared.
Birtoc--Your playtimes seem to have fallen off, but you were nasty to raid against and always good for a fun chat.
Ulthrok--Said it in your death thread. One of my favorite imperials.
Fessara--Deadly as an assassin, but man you frustrated the hell out of me. I have no idea how assassinate works, but you got me a few times that just left me in shock. Once in the Isle, litereally seconds after I saw you on where, and once recently 4 hours after I saw you half-way round the world. I know what you're doing takes skill, but an assassinate-happy character who takes zero risks kind of kills the fun during your logins. It was either sit on the ocean all day, or go looking for a fight with someone else and then have you assassinate me (or them) mid fight.
Fortress Adesoka--Big thumbs up to you. I enjoyed your RP, including how angry you were after I attacked the Watcher. But I was also glad to be able to mend that fence and group with you a few times against the Empire. I couldn't tell if some of your frustration with me was IC or OOC (but I assumed IC, and if it was, props).
Corzu--I like seeing your build in action, but it definitely was a horrible matchup against me. You were tough when in a group because of the talisman lagging, but eating annihilate reverbs looked really painful.
Outlander Lilyth--Really, really skilled player. I thought I was decent at the rope-a-dope strategy, but you were way better at it. Suckered me into a few deaths that I should not have stuck around for. Solid character, not afraid to mix it up. Sorry for bitching at you a couple of times.
Liantae--Another super tough foe always ready to throw down. I felt good about myself every time I didn't get steamrolled by you.
Pon--Good choice for Nightreaver. I thought you were about to rage delete that one day. I know the death that led up to that must have felt particularly hopeless, but a couple days later you had morphed from a pushover into a tough foe. A shame you never wanted to group together, when the balance permitted.
Gromm--Looks like you're having a ton of fun, so keep it up. You made me pay whenever I entered the wilds without enlarge up. However, giant vs bard is a tough matchup whenever you aren't permalagging me. Thanks for the PBF!
Obughum--You've come along way since getting booted from the Grotto. Keep up the good work.
Jermet--Man you're making wight look scary right now. Enjoyed all of our chats! Sorry about your zombies, but it seemed like you knew the nerf was well needed.

124415, That makes sense.
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It's good to know you only focused on PK, because every time I tried to interact with you the responses were garbage and you would have been better off not replying at all. You were fun to fight though. GLWYN

124416, RE: That makes sense.
Posted by Talisin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If you're going to talk #### in my death thread, don't hide behind a fake name--though I can guess. You're probably the ganging paladin who likes to loot corpses you didn't make, all with less honor than any Imperial.
|
124418, Guess again.
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'm someone who gets pk'd and then as soon as I unghost the nexans kill me or spend all their time chasing me so I can't get anything done. After I noticed how bloodthirsty you all were, minus Marintok who has tons of class unlike you, I started to avoid you whenever I saw you, because all you ever did was try to multikill me. Even when I said I had been very recently killed you say you don't care. I don't think I've looted a corpse yet that I didn't make.
When I say you I mean nexans, except Marintok, not Talisin only.
|
124423, Oh come on
Posted by Gromm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I've been multikilled by Fortress so many times I couldn't even count. Why the fuss? :)
|
124424, You're really aggressive.
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That's a bit different when you're the one constantly trying to fight them. It's going to be expected you will die alot when you keep throwing yourself into the fire like that. Every time I've killed you, you were the one to initiate the fight. In fact, every time I've fought you it went like that.
|
124429, RE: You're really aggressive.
Posted by Gromm on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I bet you forgot that time in the mountains with Sotis when I was running from Corzu simultaneously :)
Anyway, you really are the ONLY fortie who has actually attacked me only once and is VERY cool in RP interactions at the same time. Props for that, I love you btw :)
|
124425, No offense but
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Fort tries to pile on me more than empire ever did.
It's not a problem but the point is that you're probably one of those that I would describe as more bloodthirsty than nexans. :). It's all a matter of perspective, sometimes.
|
124430, Really?
Posted by Aereglen on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
You think so really?
|
124431, What?
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
So because you've seen this behavior from others, it must mean that all members of fortress act the same way? I don't think so. Almost all of my fights so far have been me alone against others. I have been in a few fights with one other person in my group, and there were no deaths involved in those fights. I have been outnumbered by evils, killed, only to be chased down by nexans when I unghosted. That's happened multiple times, when I'm outnumbered by evils and don't have the orb. If good tipped the scales at those times, then I'm Elvis Presley. I have reasons for my comments. I'm not one of those you've described.
|
124436, Sorry
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just seemed likely.
I apologise if I assumed you were one of those I was dealing with. However, it wasn't meant as a criticism of the in game behaviour (which I no longer mind). More a (failed) attempt to point out that sometimes we fail to notice ourselves doing things we don't like from others.
Sorry if it was misplaced.
|
124455, You're kind of right.
Posted by Aereglen on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The fortress has always seemed to harbor a lot of newbies, so it's understandable how they would want to band together and try to gang people down. But that's why you often see big groups of them die one-by-one. You need to be careful though, because sometimes really good players make characters that go fort and are really tough without any need to gang.
|
124428, multikilling
Posted by silat on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Then I'm not sure who you are, and any speculation would be unfair to all the folks in Fort who I had no problem with. Sorry you felt like you were being hunted, but the PBF shows no multikilling anyone in Fort--of course, it's missing the last week or so. Getting killed by different people also hardly counts as multikilling. If you don't want to PK, join herald.
Plus, if you think the other people in Nexus were bloodthirsty--well that's pretty absurd to me. There's maybe one person who fits that description, but s/he was hardly deathful.
|
124434, RE: multikilling
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I said you tried to. There was a lot more chasing than actual killing, but that doesn't matter. I was being hunted. Everywhere I went withing a few minutes a nexan would show up and be on my tail. I die once to someone else, then I die to a nexan, then when I unghost they come after me again. That's an attempt at multikilling and it happened to me on several occasions. I didn't say I don't want to PK. It's just strange that nexus would come at me when I'm the only fort member on, there's 4 imperials in my range and they have the orb, and the nightreaver already killed me once. And no, there were not a bunch of hidden good aligned characters on at the time. I said what I said for good reason. I didn't just pluck it out of thin air.
|
124435, First...hero range = no such thing as multi-killing.
Posted by TMNS on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Especially as a cabal member. You either sink or swim (why it is known as CarrionFields).
Is that douchey at times? Yep, I died 6 times one log as my first villager trying to retrieve from Empire back in the days of 100 people on. Ganged 3-4 on 1 every time. I even had Nexus give the head back to me one time after I got 6 on 1'd at the Destructor.
But you get better, and you learn from it.
Now, this #### that you describe happens in the 20-40s, that's pretty piss poor. But hero life is rough.
(I'm not even going to mention being a SCION back then as a n00bish player, because you were EXPECTED to go up 1 v 6 and WIN most of the times)
|
124437, Nah, that is douchy
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Unless the guy is coming at you or you missed snagging his gear first time it's quite unsporting to kill the same guy over and over. If you are able to do that it's clearly a total mismatch.
|
124439, honestly no clue what you're talking about
Posted by Talisin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
maybe you're that person who always logged in with a crowd of allies, and complained about being on the wrong side of the balance? There was one such person who expressed disbelief at the balance over the course of a few days, yet they were only found logged in with a group of allies. I think that character was a ranger or invoker or something, so it's not like they had anything to worry about from a bard they didn't want to fight.
I never attacked anyone on the right side of the balance, and, when things were balanced, I only fought villagers and people looking to pick a fight with me. This 4 imperials and the orb story is complete ####, as far as i'm concerned.
|
124447, That was the extent of your RP.

124465, I complained about the balance (Cahrusa)
Posted by Quixotic on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Three of the imperial council log in and take the fetish against two hero outlanders, and you still told me chaos had sway and chased me all over, and you tried to kill me multiple times in row, so I get what the Fortie was complaining about.
Powerful character, but when there are a four nexus heroes and they pile onto whatever side is supposedly weak, suddenly the "weak" side is steam-rolling all opposition.
That isn't your fault, that is a design flaw.
|
124467, That's all I saw from talisin.
Posted by Fortressite on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I understand it's not a perfect system, as you say it is a design flaw. I've been in nexus lots before. I'm aware of how things work. What upset me most was the fact that it was the only kind of behavior I saw from Talisin. Some of the times there was no way that good was tipping the scales, not a chance in hell, yet I was being relentlessly chased down across the mud. Maybe if I had a good interaction things would have been different, but that's not even close to the way things went down. To me it seemed like someone trying to rack up as many pks as possible no matter what the cost.

I guess I just felt really cheated, like I was trying to help someone, and that very person turns around and stabs you in the back. Do you know the feeling?
I was out of line, I went too far, and I did it more than once which is really bad. For that I am sorry.
|
124497, Talisin wasn't shy about putting out a double tap, but he was a solo bard, for pete's sake.
Posted by Quixotic on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
It wasn't like he was a conjurer or air/off shifter. He would come at you again and again if you gave him the chance, but it wasn't like he was impossible to avoid after you learned what he was going to try to do. Just gotta adapt.
|
124485, In fairness
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
If the other outlander was Lilyth, it was probably accurate. :)
|
124496, Cosita, not Lilyth.
Posted by Quixotic on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The problem was that a mummy with army had a lot more firepower than what I think the balance gave her credit for.
Lilyth rarely was logged in for longer than 15 minutes during my logins. At the time I assumed she had an imperial alt.
|
124500, That was a bit of a joke
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
My point was that Lilyth alone is probably enough to swing the balance towards chaos no matter how many enemies are on. Certainly the toughest character I can ever remember in my whole time of cf. And that includes liches because at least I could run away from liches. :)

Posted by marintok on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Well what can I say, I remember inducting you and thinking oh look another throw away char that will stay in nexus for 72 hours and delete (sorry but that is how i thought at first) then I noticed you were around quite a bit and hero'd pretty fast. I had been soloing it at the island for litterally hundreds of hours and then all of the suden I had some help, someone who was good, someone who was crazy as me, or if not as crazy as me was willing to let me drag them into some crazy stuff, and then someone to talk religon about with. You stopped me from pondering deletion and really helped push me onwards and upwards.
I felt no fear (not that i did much anyway) when you were around, how many times would we be sitting in Hamash getting ready to charge into 4+ imperials and you would ask what is the plan? I would say, Ah...charge in and kill everyone.... You would sigh, and then say okay lets do it.
Your pk skill is levels above mine for sure and I could tell that from the start, it seemed like at the start everyone would come after me and then you would be able to do your stuff and wreck everyone, towards the end people came after you first because they knew you were the real danger. Okay horribly long goodbye post on your thread, just know you were awesome, I learned quite a bit from you, and you will be missed and the island will be less without you.
Here is the echos from your death if you didn't see them.
Neither Light nor Dark, Order nor Chaos disrupts the Balance as the shade of Talisin Arahir passes from this world to the next.

But job well done, never afraid to mix it up, dont think you ever got me, nor did I ever get you (like I have killed tons of people ) :p

124464, RE: Goodbyes
Posted by Talisin on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I tried a handful of times to get you, but you were never really at risk unless it was in a big fight. Bard vs healer 1v1 isn't going to end in a kill hardly ever.
I think once I had you slept at the Fortress just after an imperial raid, and burned a whole stack of curse scrolls to no effect. When that failed, I resigned myself to your eventual escape.
You're also not afraid to mix it up! One of the imperials that will log on solo and go attempt retrievals. Keep it up--I hope the Empire doesn't fall apart now that Hell seems out of the picture.
