123294, I was hoping you'd get a sleep/vault kill on me...
Posted by Liantae on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
... I was very curious to my worth in charges. :) So, I took a bit more risks than I normally would. You had me down to 25hps at most!

Anyway, great to stick it out as anathema, I've done it myself a few times and it's usually quite a bit of fun!

I hope to see you back again soon!
123295, Very hard to land spell on characters with high int I found
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I think I had more chance of killing you going toe to toe than trying sleep/flee which is just asking to get pincered. Almost pulled it off too! Didn't help when you changed something to resist fire - don't know if that was a piece of gear or judicious prepping? Ice control isn't nearly as good.

Don't worry I had Lilyth at what must have been less than 100hp a few times as well. And I was just as curious to find out your soul worth, believe me :) 'If only I'd just fled from that gang and kept that extra 3 damroll maybe that would have been enough' - maybe.
123303, It's very hard to land first attack
Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Let alone spell.

I don't think I've ever got the first attack off against lilyth or hoysepis even when I know they are incoming and I'm trying. Makes me wish I was a pally with counter strike, even though I'd still have to deal with spores.
123304, Pretty sure I got a few attempts on both lilyth and liantae, they just made the saves

123289, I'm really depressed by this.
Posted by Araton on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I had plans for you! A lot of them involved more fighting with you, but not all of them! We had, at the risk of offending any South American players, a truly Civil War between us, only without the burning of villages and all that. We were Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf, exchanging good mornings before clocking in and killing each other without mercy. Then the lunch whistle would blow, and we'd be sitting around comparing our situations and lives for a while over coffee before breaktime was over and we were killing each other again. We each had to offer the "Sorry my friends are jerks and took your stuff" apology more than a few times too. We were low men on tall totem poles together, rose up fighting together, making snide comments about our mates and superiors together, and I figured we would be old men swinging their canes at each other while the orderlies tried to distract us with pudding cups. Sigh. Now I want pudding. And I want my foe back. I really can't say how much this sucks, and how sorry I am this happened to you.
123292, Araton was great. Actually laughed out loud at our banter
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That was a great summation of our relationship.
123288, Good character
Posted by Magner on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I could tell that you were a bit frustrated with what had been happening but you still seemed like you were marching on. What happened to you is unbelievable and very, very crappy. I just can't believe someone would go through all the trouble to be an asshole like that.

At least you didn't have a monster weapon when this happened.

See you with your next I'm sure!

How about letting him restart a new character with a unique race/class combo, but still make him write a backstory?
123256, I'll save my complete thoughts until my character is dead.
Posted by Sindrir on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I'll just say well done. I liked this one far more than your past characters. Sorry it ended how it did and I hope you come back soon.
123265, Cheers

I will say I'd have liked another talk with you IC, but you can probably guess at most of it. Good luck.

I really feel for you here pal. Can't believe someone is sad enough to do such a thing. They are just complete *******

I really enjoyed your char, both in Empire and our little couple of fights while you were Anathema. Was glad to see you stick with it after getting kicked out.

I hope to see you back in the fields. GLWYN
123247, You were much tougher than most assassins I fought
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
First time I had you slept I skipped half the spelldown to try and kill you before backup arrived.

Second time I thought that having landed slow I stood a chance of outmeleeing you. Not so much. You struck me as somewhat inexperienced in how you approached fights but once in combat you were far stronger than I thought.
123238, Since I'm told I can't be restored
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I just want everyone to be clear that I would 100% have killed everyone on the council before I con died, and nobody can prove otherwise.

Following that, con quest, finally shaving those last few hitpoints off Lilyth, lightning control, getting comfortable with hero PK and becoming the greatest A-P the mud has ever seen.

Still just kind of shocked. I was only going to last another 2-3 days tops. I anticipated con death would be cathartic, this was just anticlimactic.
123243, Have you considered...
Posted by Homard on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
That had you not been hacked/deleted that your reign of terror would have been so great that it would have spread beyond crushing the council, beyond destroying the Empire, beyond ruling Thera into the real world and ushered in a terrible future?

Have you considered that some brave soul traveled back in time to prevent this tragedy?

Perhaps it was even you.
123244, That actually makes a lot of sense
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Now that you spell it out to me that way
123274, This deserved more recognition.

Mind officially blown.

Posted by Exit on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I don't play anymore, but seeing this happen to you I had to come out of the woodwork and sympathize with how much this sucks.

If I recall, you are the serial AP player and I've seen through the goodbye threads and PBFs how your prestige and skill have increased from character to character.

If there is a bright side here, and you enjoy this sort of thing, know that you have achieved a point in your character's life to make someone else pissed off enough to want to go out of their way to bring actual harm to you (I consider destroying someone's 336 hour investment personal harm).

Also, Russians. Ya vam fsye znayu! Seems a bit suspicious that the character's gear was thoughtfully dumped in the Empire pit. I'd start the search with active Empire players.
123258, As I said below it was dumped in Hamsah.
Posted by Athioles on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Just like most evenings the city (and mud) was full of Imperials.

Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Can we identify the character played from the site in question, what happened to ychram's gear etc?

This is probably the lowest thing I've seen from a member of our community, bug particularly one without obvious enemies.

Not to mention that this guy has been playing an underdog recently and not rolling in the ganks.

The char was deleted from an inactive site, and there is no way the password was taken from CF. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we cannot restore characters in these, or really any, situations. (yes, I know, please don't bring up that time I killed Padwei).

I have offered my apologies to Elysian and I am sure he will return with an equally great character.
123235, RE: Investigation
Posted by Sarien on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
"The char was deleted from an inactive site" By this do you mean that it was deleted from a site that only logged in once with the purpose of deleting Elystan's character?

Since you obviously have looked at the IP that connected, could you guys maybe pull the ARP table from the server and compare the MAC address to other MAC addresses that have connected prior and maybe narrow it down to an individual piece of hardware?

While the above may not work at all (depending on certain things) it might help. If the person used a vpn/proxy/etc correctly the above would not work.

Depending upon your logging, there may be other things you could use other than IP to narrow this person down.

I work as a network security admin, and I'd really like to see this mo####er exposed for this action

On a side note, everyone calls this guy Elysian but I'm sure it's ElysTan ;)

OK, now I feel like the heel ;). I didn't take into consideration auto-correct. I was honestly starting to believe I was one of the few people that read his name with a T in it!

Posted by joe the plumber on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
MAC addresses only make sense inside the local network, not the Internet.
They are not normally transmitted across networks.

VPN/proxy has nothng to do with this.

It's embarrassing that you work as a network security admin and don't know this.
I suggest you hit the books ASAP.

123241, Good call.
Posted by Sarien on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I hadn't even thought of that.
123242, I don't know
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I had been very patiently and determinedly building up to a finale for 335 hours and now it can't happen.

I appreciate there's nothing the imm staff can do about this, but this seems like a good time to step back from CF. Not saying I won't roll up another one tomorrow but I put a lot of love and guts into playing this one out to the end and it's pretty upsetting that someone cut that short.
123254, On the other hand

123202, According to google that's about 19 hours ago?

It's old software with a ton of exploits. Someone hijacked the forum last year and had been reading pm's for a long time before that. I'd hope they keep their passwords encrypted but who knows.

I too have accidentally posted my char pword in a log to dio's once. I didn't get hacked/deleted/etc, because I caught it before anyone other than me saw the log. That said, try to make sure none of your forum persona's/pwords lign up with what you use in-game. The good news is, the IMM's should be able to verify that your last login came from a place that hasn't logged into your char before, and possibly restore your pfile.

Posted by incognito on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Any idea why? I mean, if he did it to me I could see why he might have wanted to (dios et al) but Elystan seems an odd choice.
123284, We have no idea if it was him or if the password leak came from dios.
Posted by Athioles on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Personally I can't see him doing this.
123285, He's hated me with a passion since he couldn't kill Ogrot
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
I tried to point out to him that bloodlust does improve melee, including parrying. He then tried furiously to kill me but always ran out of time/mana before he could land plague, and I never bothered to buy reduce potions to actually bash him.

I didn't think he still played but he was really really upset over the whole thing.
123207, WTF? Did someone really hack you?
Posted by Anti-Hero on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Wow that is a new ####ing low whoever would hack someones character and delete them. I hope they get sitebanned, forum banned, QHCF banned and a #### in the butt. Not cool to mess with someones time investment.

Imms, find out who would pull some #### like this and make em leave for good. Last time I heard about a character hack was like, when Zhulghinlour was mortal. Shady shady ####.

Sorry you lost a character man. I don't care who's character it is, thats fuuuuuuuucked up.

123210, Unless you accidentally posted it in a log...
Posted by Anti-Hero on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Which I never saw on a board or anything, It's likely someone you know, or someone you posted a log to on accident with your password. Guessing somebodies password you don't know is damn near impossible. I doubt someone popped a keylogger on you.

It probably is literally someone that knew your password before, if you can think of anyone.

I am sure imms can IP check.
123212, Nobody I know IRL plays the game
Posted by KaguMaru on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
password was a reference to an obscure work of media I enjoy. But I can't imagine anyone just getting lucky with three wild guesses. I've never actually told anyone this password in any context.
123213, This is something the imms need to be involved in.
Posted by Anti-Hero on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Email them, make a lowbie, pray, whatever. They can get the IP address, siteban them, deny their characters, and maybe if you are lucky put a #### in their butt for you.

What I said still stands a great ally and a horrible person to have as an enemy. Well done!

PS Its probably just as well you didnt become the greatest AP ever, because with such a weapon I have found a way to combinue multiple instruments and create the first 1-man band bard. Just picture getting hit by fire and ice 8 times in one round from 8 different instruments :)

I had finally committed to the idea of killing Imperials toward the end (I was going easy for a while). But I don't think we ever got into much of a fight. You bailing out Talice was annoying though, I think she was the only Imperial who landed a kill on me.

I have an awful lot of practice retrieving from fort. I think I racked up more than 30 retrievals before I got anath'd.

Actually landing a cleave on Liffy was one of the highlights of the character, I will admit. Not my first cleave kill on a PC but the first where it was what I was trying to accomplish.
