111464, Isn't it a good time to leave your comfort zone (battle)?
Posted by Shapa on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
In 95% of all possible situations battle powers are the best. And that's why you keep coming back to battle cabal again and again (how many battle characters did you have in the last few years?). But the drawbacks of battle cabal are: you cannot kill 50% of your pk range (sometimes 100% of your pk range if you do everything right) and you can be uninducted anytime when any imm or cabal leader wants.
Isn't it a good time to leave your comfort zone and play something else to both imrpove yourself as player and avoid so much control from "elders"? It will be much harder in the begining, but anyway there is no any other way if you want to grow.
I suggest something evil in outlanders or scion/outlander mage, or at least standart sword-spec giant in Empire. If you play something with pathfinding/windwalk take your time and explore this skill very carefuly, later it will help you to play characters even without this skill much more effectively using different terrains.

111483, He did some imperial warrior

I remember getting ganked by him. Or at least, I -think- he was an imperial. Certainly some of the others involved were.

I want to point out that I logged in that day with the specific intention of granting you as Drillmaster. You had some very great moments (even in your RP) but you also had some ridiculously sour ones.
There were times when your take on parity was very suspect but the one that got you the boot was so blatant (with me watching) that to attempt to justify it would have been completely unfair to the village and everything it represents.
There were also such great moments of you taking on some pretty crazy odds and putting up some fantastic fights. I can appreciate the balls to the wall mentality. All you have to do is adhere to parity and stick to a role and you can have a memorable character worth the praise of your peers. Just try it, once and you will see not only rewards but how meaningful and fun the above could be.
Good luck with the next one.

Just not quite firing on all cylinders, this time around.
I actually thought that Boggdok was one of Jerrokrar's detractors trying to make a character in his mold to show how easy it would be to do what he does, and not quite measuring up.
Which is no big deal -- nobody produces their best every time out. Sometimes you have to take the odd step back for your next to be a big step forward, and I hope it is.

Thats like the closest thing to a burn I think I have seen you post in... well I don't recall the last time.
I really want to see this PBF now.

Well, let me qualify that a little bit: PKwise he picked up steam a lot later in life.
But early on I wouldn't have believed this was someone who had played Battle before.

111398, False. All Imms track Jerro's PC's and conspire against him.
Posted by Tac on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Also it takes extreme skill to play svirf RBW with no regard to cabal policies and land kills, so no one but Jerro could possibly pull this off, making your guess that Boggdok was a Jerro imitator a laughable farce.

111386, I've got quite a bit to say
Posted by Haphanas on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Early on I had suspected you were the player of this character. You confirmed this later on by telling me something IC that was nearly the exact same thing you posted on one of the boards. That being said, we always got along and IC I considered Boggdok a friend. I knew your player persona, but, you were never abrasive to me IC and all was good.
But...
You have a much broader view of what is acceptable behavior for a Villager than I do. Call it differing philosophies, or whatever, but, because of this and your hyper-aggressive play style (need every PK) it always made me nervous to go anywhere with you that wasn't outside of the ruins or to raid another cabal. I felt like I was one moment away from unintentionally getting involved in a questionable fight and either getting a bad rep for it or getting booted. As they say, guilty by association.
Please take this as constructive criticism. I get that you want to be a badass PKer. But, the way you go about it doesn't always mesh with the Village. And, what is worse, it can often take much of the fun out of the game to have to deal with a player who pushes the envelope as you do. Especially, one who, like yourself, always thinks they are right and has such an aggressive and abrasive personality. It's just not always worth the brain damage to confront a player like that.
I'm going to describe three situations that I witnessed to support my stance that I feel you push the envelope for Village behavior, that don't include the one that got you booted from the Village.
1) I go to the Fort and see Tiarhelle there with an elf invoker inside. Tia asks me to strike and says she will wait for Oshui. I strike the Maran, enter the fort while Tia waits outside. While fighting the elf inside Oshui comes straight into the fort. I say this over CB, eyejab Oshui, flee and come back to reengage the elf. They move to the Watcher and Tia and I are standing outside it. I announce I am going in to try and pull one out. I try twice and fail. At this point, it is two on two, and not a raid, as we do not take the orb, but, you show up and just run into the watcher and start cranialing mages. I had hoped Tia might say something, but, she didn't. I just left the Fort for you two to fight.
2) We are grouped, but, not together. I am fighting Gorliz on eastern road near Galadon. I flee, to try and come back and hamstring, except I happen to flee into you. You walk back into the room, and I follow before my "west" command can go through and you strike Gorliz. My west command ends up taking me one room further. Gorliz flees and you follow him into Galadon to continue the fight. I tell you on CB that I was fighting him, but, I have no way of proving that you knew that beforehand.
3) We are grouped and Drirla flies up to me as a vulture and strikes me. You back out and say to me that it's my fight. I'm thinking, good for you! I think you are starting to understand as you could have said that you were justified to stay in the fight as she attacked two villagers. I fight Drirla and it comes down to the wire. She ends up killing me while she convulses. She is bleeding from daggers and when I get back to my corpse she is a corpse. I look back through the log and see that no tick occurs between the time I hit the altar til I got back to my corpse. I ask Drirla if she died to bleeding and she replies that it was a rager, indicating you. So, while you showed some promise, you took a step backwards in killing her while she convulsed after fighting me.
Now, alot of those situations are questionable at best and there are loopholes that can be used to justify the actions. It just seems to me that was often the case. The last situation made me think that you might actually be trying, but, didn't want to pass up an easy PK for your ratio.
Now, on to when you got booted. Why the hell did you do that? I was so blatantly wrong, but, you did it anyway! I probably screwed my character over royally in regards to all future hopes of its goals by voting to give you one more chance in front of Thror. And, honestly, writing this, I'm not even sure why I did. At the time, I think it came down to several reasons:
A) Despite the above, I did like Boggdok B) I know you've put a bunch of time into the char and knew exile would equal deletion. I just hate to take fun out of the game for others. But, then again, how many people are you making the game less fun for by your actions? C) Maybe, I did think you were trying to improve the behavior, although now, in hindsight I'm not sure I was correct.
It's fine to be a badass PKer. But, if you want to pad your ratio with cheap kills and gang downs. Go play a Scion or an Imperial. Then, all you do would be perfectly acceptable! I hope you take this all as constructive and try to learn from it.

111387, There is just one thing I do not agree with.
Posted by Zephon on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
First off. I did not play Boggdok.
But I wanted to make mention of the 3 points you made in your post.
1. I want to clarify what classifies a seige (or raid) situation. Whenever the enemy retreats into their inner it is a seige (even if the intention is not to take the item of power). Because then it is not 2 vs 2. It is 2 + inner vs 2. This constitutes a raid situation imo. Period.
However, your points in 2 & 3 are correct imo. But remember, things can get confusing in battle.

111388, I guess we can agree to disagree
Posted by Haphanas on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
Thror does state on his page that a siege is an attack on an enemy cabal. Which supports your opinion because it doesn't say anything about being there to take an enemies item. The only thing that could be argued is the definition of his statement "enemy cabal". In my opinion, Fort doesn't qualify as enemy cabal even though it is an enemy's cabal.
I personally think a raid or siege is where the goal is to take an item of power or regain one.
I also personally think that this situation falls under the category of skirmish where we were hunting an enemy and the challenge of the location was a test of self-worth for us, semi-quoting Thror again.
Lastly, you are right, where things do get confusing in battle, which is why I said there are loopholes that can be used to justify these actions. I just think that when playing a Villager one needs to be a bit cautious when confronted with an iffy situation. The situation described above didn't seem to have any of that caution. It was just kill, kill, kill.

111389, It sounds like you and I have had some similar experiences.
Posted by Homard on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
The whole text of this post echoes precisely how my time in the Village with Boggom/Lohakhan was.
Honestly, Jerrokrar could play an amazing, rewarded, Village leader.
If he weren't always looking for ways to bend the rules.
Parity does not exist to protect enemies of the Village. It exists to protect Villagers. They can only hold onto their legacy of "The Mightiest Warriors in Thera" if they are capable of fighting against odds that would send lesser warriors running.
And Jerro knows this. It's totally within him to play a Pillared, lauded Villager.
