Can't backstab people who are lower than about 80% or 90% health. Backstab would definitely have killed you if I'd been able. It's possible that knife would have, but I kind of doubt it. I'm thinking the scroll would have done the job, which is really the whole reason I carried them around in the first place. Of course, when it mattered, I totally forgot about them.
