Admittedly without having played a lvl 47 necromancer, I disagree with this statement.

Sleep and necro spells *by themselves* won't kill a prepared person at hero ranks. Throw on some special wands, staves, and quest items, though, and being slept (theoretically) becomes much more dangerous.
