It's about context, which is a detail that is somehow being lost on you.

Maran killing good = always bad.

Maran killing evil = always good.

Maran killing neutral = it depends. And catching something neutral in an area spell you're casting to nuke the Chancellor of Scion is extremely defensible. If you can find me saying otherwise, I'd like to see it.
