Daggan the Whisper, Bandit King of Hamsah Mu'tazz

Description

Remarkably plain is the duergar that stands before you. He is not overly
dirty, but neither is he spotless. He has a neatly trimmed and closely
cropped beard. His eyes are remarkably pale, milky even with the lightest
shade of blue around the pupils. His nose is large and bulbous, his ears are
large but not overly so. His hair is black and falls to his shoulders though
it is tied with a leather thong at the nape of his neck.
He stands only about four feet five inches high, though he looks quite fit
and trim. He tends to wear darker clothing, and you notice an assortment of
weapons on him. On his belt he has many pouches, some full, some empty, one
of them looks like the one you were just wearing.

Little Black Book, page 6
Added Sat Feb 25 19:02:36 2006 at level 37:

Saroiya: Talked at the inn, she gave 5 gold. Told this squire I was seeking half-redemption, 5000 gold paid to Qaledus would make me not wicked. Don't attack her, she's not attacking you.

Seltun: she gave 20 gold, encouraged to continue gathering coin for Qaledus and redemption. Killed Imperial mage while defending Fortress. This one looks kind of old, but is duped easily enough.

Necore: This fellow's back. He informed Kragathian I asked him to locate some things after learning I was a villager. Told him to immediatly tell Kragathian he was lying.
He did after I explained that I was on a mission, hired by the conveniently dead Jopenstanruk and paid often for information on villagers. Also informed him that I had Zebulus's ear and it was Zebulus that set me on this quest.
Necore has given an additional 110 gold on top of the things for the 'high tower quest' so far. He has been informed every good deed of his is noted to the Lord's of Magic.

Mushroom Farming
Added Tue Jan 31 19:57:09 2006 at level 1:

To say Daggan Ginch was bored would be a major understatement. He was
the mushroom king of the underdark and his kingdom was vast, dull, and empty.
after day he walked the empty warrens and tunnels with his large sacks
looking for mushrooms. Bright orange, black, neon yellow, green; he kept all
he found. Some mushrooms that shot spores at the lightest touch, some that
shriveled and died at the first sign of light. Mostly he found the meaty
white ones that were good for eating, and those he sold to the svirfnebli
merchant who gave him a fair price.

Needless to say, this was not the life he had envisioned for himself
while being raised by his escaped slave parents. They taught him how to
read, how to speak, how to survive, and how to think. Daggan learned from
them to think, and look out for number one, himself.

Daggan was always inherently cruel, joyous were the days when he
stumbled upon lone svirfs, weak drow, or any of the not overly dangerous
denizens of the Underdark.

One day, the Mushroom King found his royal treasure trove of
mushrooms. If he could have seen two thousand feet above himself, he would
have noticed the city watch of Voralian City changing, unaware of the hidden
terrors that lie beneath the stone of that holiest of cities. Daggan didnt
notice them either, though, he was more focused on the tell-tale twang of the
pungent mushrooms in the air, but damned if he could find them.He wandered
around for hours before finally stumbling upon the hidden crevice. He was
barely able to squeeze into the crack, and it was a miracle itself that he
somehow managed that feat. Upon entering the chamber, he knew something was
very strange. The mushrooms he saw had a very unusual, golden glow to them.
Daggan thought the mushrooms that were there would be more numerous from the
strong smell, but he only counted twelve of them. Wondering exactly what he
was dealing with, and long since having built up immunities to all side
effects of the fungus, he plopped a mushroom in his mouth, chewed
thoughtfully, swallowed, and felt a rush of blood to his brain before losing
consciousness.

The Business Man
Added Tue Jan 31 19:58:48 2006 at level 1:

"Where did you say you got these again?", asked the wizard merchant
as he again inspected the glowing fungi. Daggan knew he had stumbled upon
something most valuable as soon as he saw the flash of greed come and go off
the svirfnebli enchanters face after he had identified them.

"The time for questions is over, you will state a price or a find
another buyer."Daggan was feeling ill again, he had not felt the same since
he woke up in the cavern many hours after passing out. Coming into contact
with anything magical was making him feel disgusting, the mushrooms, the
wards around the city, the merchant, they all gave him a queasy feeling.

Daggan wished nothing more then to bury his dagger hilt deep into the
mages throat and take his gold and leave, but he could feel the crossbows
trained on him even if he couldnt see the guards. It was a dangerous
business, trading with folks who hated him almost as much as he hated them.

Daggan refused the offered price straight away, quadrupling it.
After reaching a very lucrative sum of gold for himself, the bargain was
struck and he left the city from the same hidden entrance he entered it. He
didnt bother leaving his contact the promised percentage of gold, he knew he
would never return. He had enough gold to start a new life someplace else.

Why not to venture too close to Mortorn, The Recruit
Added Tue Jan 31 20:05:21 2006 at level 1:

Daggan could sense the presence of the wizard long before he saw him.
He had managed to dodge the duergar recruiters the entirety of his life thus
far, and he damned the luck of running into them the third day after he had
begun his journey out of the underdark. He began to slowly backtrack out of
the tunnel as slowly as he had entered, but he realized as soon as the jack
hit him over the back of the head that he had already passed part of the
patrol. His last thought was that he preferred blacking out to a blow to the
head then to magic mushrooms.

The battalion he was thrown into was known as the 43rd, and he
swiftly rose through the ranks to lead scout after he realized there was no
easy way out of the army. He learned a lot about fighting, war, sneaking,
and plotting during the time spent in the imprisonment of the army. He
formed an alliance with four like-minded duergar, escape being their common
thought; escape the war before it kills you was the plan. He learned much
during that time of manipulation, deception, and concealment. His most
cunning achievement was manipulating the Captain of the 43rd into putting him
in a position where he could escape.

He had it all planned out in his mind, and the plan went off without
a hitch. He warned the captain on the eve his fellow conspirators and he had
planned for their escape. He knew the group of them would be caught almost
as soon as he started plotting with them. They lacked his cold intellect and
were far too unintelligent to ever pull off an escape on their own accord.
Daggan was to lead the group into a 'hidden secret' crevice he had stumbled
upon while scouting that lead to the surface. He did so, and as he waved the
'all clear' signal back to them and they entered the ambush of crossbow bolts
and axes, he snuck off and sprinted like the wind down the tunnel away from
the fighting and out of those cursed halls. An example was made of his
fellows, 'The only way out of the tunnels beneath Mortorn is victory or
death.'The Captain hung the bodies from each end of the camp on display,
and didnt mention Daggan in the process, everyone else assumed he had been
one of the four when he did not return. The Captains full gold pouch didnt
inspire him to send anyone to bring Daggan back, either.

Daggan's Holey Faith and Beliefs
Added Tue Jan 31 20:06:43 2006 at level 1:

Survive

Firstly, Daggans main belief is that he should stay alive. There is nothing
worth dying for, nothing worth risking his neck over. He will always try to
keep himself safe while putting the risk on other people.

Greed

The more things you have, clearly the more wealthy you are. Daggan will
never go back to mushroom farming and trading with grubby svirfs. He will
hoard his new wealth and attempt to grow as powerful as he can without
drawing too much attention to himself.

Concealment

This could be the most important of his beliefs. Never let others know your
true intentions, if they know what you want, they will take it first. If
they know where you are going, they will beat you there. If they know you
believe things they do not, they might not give you things, they might even
try to kill you. It is best to learn about other people and what they want,
instead of telling them what you want, the fewer enemies you have, the more
likely you will be to stay alive.

Deception

Deceive, deceive, deceive. Make 'friends' with everyone. Seek redemption
while taking the bloodoath and bringing about eternal night to better help
you serve drinks while planting a tree to hang criminals from. Never show
your cards, always make people believe they are smarter then you.

Magic

Magic absolutely makes Daggan feel ill and disgusted. Something about the
mushroom from beneath the old White Tower after it exploded made Daggan
absolutely dislike anything remotely magical. He can sense it, smell it,
taste it, and he tries to avoid it. Killing wizards does relieve the feeling
of disgust, and he actually takes a pleasure in the act, more then relief.

Little Black Book
Added Sat Feb 4 01:49:50 2006 at level 16:

It's become obvious that there are far too many fools in the world, and neither the time nor trustable accountants to keep tally of not so honest dealings.

The little black book will keep track of who has given what, and why. It will also serve to detail ongoing dupings so name confusion does not occur or the act of deception itself.

Necore: Given the false information that within the Tower of High Sorcery lies a scroll that details how to learn a new minor form. A pattern on the books in the library involving rocks will lead to the discovery of the scroll.
25 gold for information thus far.

Riesia: Given the false information that within the South Darien Settlement lies a scroll that can be invoked to learn a new bard offensive bard song. Gave 20 gold before giving up search.
Was lead to a slow scroll location instead for an additional 3 gold.

Sharwyn, Deylani, Therethine: Covincingly given the false information that a place within the Inn of the Eternal Star was being sought. Given a total of 30 gold pieces to help with guild donations.

Vincero: Given the false information that a place within the Scions was sought. Has given a Straight Razor and Silver Stilletto thus far.

Suarvina: Given the true information that yours truly would be a Scout of the Village. Given the false information that if paying the right price, she would have her own spy within the village. Sworn to secrecy. Given thirty gold thus far.

Jopenstanruk: Given the same opportunity as Suarvina, but is too wise to dupe. Always look too foolish to have been serious about joining the village around this one. Avoid speaking too about anything other then wanting gold for services.

Razhalia: Given the false information that redemption of the soul is sought for the love of a dwarven lass. Continue speaking to her about this, tell her to tell the Maran. Pretend to pray to Qaledus about buying the wickedness out of soul.

Bushu: Informed of the scroll in the High Tower of Sorcery, most convincing deception yet. He's given 55 gold so far. Don't tell anyone else about that particular scroll lest they run into each other.

Kegoni: This fellow seems to know a thing or two about what a thief wants. He hates Waldali, and paid dearly to back rise to Bandit King just to spite him. Was promised, falsely or truly, Waldali's silver tongue in a sack.
Has given 200 gold and some things. Expects me to be a Herald eventually as well, set up shop there and protect him from getting stolen from.
Keep this fellow close, don't fug it up.

Added Tue Feb 7 20:55:30 2006 at level 25:

Kaisse: After speaking for a bit, gave entrance into the village as a scout. Spellbane power is just a lovely dish that keeps the mage illness away. Stay away from Kaisse, let her think you're just another dumb duergar.
Retrieve the head as needed, make yourself a valuable Scout, but stay alive. There's much to be gained in spying for mages, smartly.

Should be about time to take the guild over in Hamsah after a few more coins, once the guild grows, expand the network to other guilds, and then who know what might happen...

Rachel: Helped along in the Voralian Guild, says she will stand beside in times of conflict and give any information required of her. Says she will be Loyal to the Bandit's of Hamsah. Attempting to help her reach God Mother position.
She seems impressionable enough to actually mean what she says, not bad qualities for a follower.

Brought Aereya, Joad, Milton, and Linonezi into the guild, according to sources, five more and we'll be tied with the Galadon pigs as far as membership goes.

Waslid: Started on the 'quest for knowledge' in the High Tower of Sorcery. So far has given 40 gold, we'll see how much more can be milked before I inform him he messed it up and it will be impossible for him to complete.

Ysaloerye: What a feisty dwarven wench. Thinkin' I'd like to tie her down in my hut and leave her wanting it. Not a bad goal to work towards on the side. Make sure she doesn't cut off any important parts in the mean time.

Little Black Book, page 5
Added Tue Feb 21 21:11:45 2006 at level 35:

Hamsah Thieves Guild: Finally gotten control over the goings on in this place. Thinking that the guild will directly reflect my status of power and wealth in the world. Qaledus seems to know his business and willing to sell some religion
if I'm bringing some power and wealth to myself. A unitization of all the lesser guilds is in order if I want to shine the guild like the diamond in the rough it is.
Galadon will always be in power and make everyone else look like crap in so long as we remain unorganized, they will hog all of the profit.
If I'm the head of the guild unitization process, others will look at me as the head of all of the guilds if unitization does come.

Kegoni: This fugger overstepped his bounds and placed a Herald at the top of the Voralian donations over Rachel. He's been instructed not to do so without my approval in the future.
He's offered healing services to all thieves not of the Galadon guild, so he might be of some worth to us. He's also given twenty five more gold and a few items.

Greddarh: Promised information regarding the village to this Scion, as well as gave him an unholy weapon with three charges.
I expect good things from this fugger, in the way of coin and information.
