Description

Standing a few inches over six feet, this woman has stark elvish
features. Her pointed ears are each pierced with a small hoop
hanging from them. Deep blue eyes peer out from either side of
a perfectly formed nose. She is beautiful, in a feral, wild
sort of way. Her light blonde hair is pulled back into a tight
braid that hangs to the middle of her back.

Around her neck hangs a small medallion. Seemingly covered in
a language that has no common translation. Though the image
at its center speaks of a several concentric circles. She moves
with the near perfect grace of a predator stalking through a
forest. As you gaze more closely you are able to determine....

The dance

Dahliana found her way into the village, true to her word to Tahren.
She stalks there now, restless. Her skills are being honed, but something
nags at the back of her mind. Where was her brother. That thing took
him, but she knew not where. She needed answers. Her strength was coming
to its own, now was the time she thought to find those answers. The
first place to look, the home of the beasts that came with the one who
took her brother. The ruins of Maethein.

She's stalked those circles looking for answers. Slain nightwalkers in
countless numbers. But no sign. Even challenging the largest one in
that place. Proving too much for her now, she vowed to return. Perhaps
ending that one, might provide a clue, something, anything to help her
know the fate of her brother....

Maeg'Lilthor

Dahliana spent the next days, listening to her grandmother tell her of the
past. Stories of training, and teachers. Stories of battles and duels.
Stories of her heritage.

After many days, Grandmother told Dahliana to gather provisions for her
journey. The fresh graves rested near the homes, as Dahliana walked away, not
looking back.

Finding her way out into the world was jaring. Her simple life was gone. She
walked swords strapped to her hips. The armor weighing heavily on her
shoulders. Grandmother had taught her what she could of the forms, but the
only way to truly master them was through practice.

Showing her the way, grandmother took her down a great road, into a ruined
city. Walking her through the streets, she stopped at a smithy. A large man
looked up from his work and smiled at grandmother, nodding.

"Girl, this is Tahren, Listen to him, he can help you, but I cannot stay any
longer. This is not my place, I've given you what I can, the rest, is up to
you."

"I've got her" came the rumble from Tahren, without looking up from his anvil.

With that, grandmothers wispy form dispersed, and Dahliana turned towards
Tahren.

"Right Girl, you can sleep over there, or up in the woods cross the road a
ways, which ever makes you feel more at home. You come here, I'll teach you
what I can, I'll help keep your swords sharp. And then you can get on to the
duty given."

And so, began the story of Dahliana Maeg'Lilthor. Seeker of the Blade,
destoryer of magic. Daughter of the Village.

Chapter 3

Purpose

Dahliana woke some time later, the smell was hard, iron scent of blood. She
carefully sat up and surveyed her surroundings.

"Yes Granddaughter, this is the face of true evil." came a voice from the
porch of her grandparents home.

Turning Dahliana saw the wispy shape of her grandmother standing in front of
the door. Beckoning for her to come closer.

Standing Dahliana moved towards the phantasm. Slowly, gingerly stepping around
the bodies of her kin, she stepped up onto the porch.

"Grandmother..." She whispered. Shock still setting in.

"Girl, I am so sorry this has come to be your fate. It is my fault. I gave up
on my duty, to raise your father. I should have stayed, I should have done
what needed to be done. I was selfish. Trained as I was, a Kaidar
Maeg'Lilthor, a master sword dancer. I fought against the rising scourge of
magi, who sought to usurp the power reserved only for the gods. I found my
home in a place founded by those who sought to bring the world back to what it
should be, free of the tainted use of magic. But girl, I was selfish. I fell
in love with your grandfather, and we wanted a family. Where I was, what I
was, was held no place for a family." said her grandmother.

"But Grandmother, you, were a healer, you taught me..." said Dahliana

"Yes girl such is the way of the Maeg'Lilthor. A blade can cut both ways as
should we. I cut and I healed, such is the balance of things. Now come, I
must show you some things." she said turning to enter the home.

Moving to the back, Grandmother walked to a large chest, one that Dahliana had
seen many times before, but never seen opened.

"Open it" said her Grandmother. As she did, Dahliana looked inside seeing two
long blades, sheathed, laying upon a suit of armor.

"This is your legacy now. Sit, I will tell you my story, then you and I will
talk about what comes next for you."

Life has a way

The ghost of the kind grandmother hovered over her granddaughters body. She
was not alone. A tall old man stood next to her.

"Shes still hanging on, a thread only, but she's there." Said the ghost of the
elderly woman.

"Aye, shes got fight in her thats for sure." Said the old man, leaning heavily
on his staff.

"Can you do it? Will you?" said the ghost

"Can I, of course I can. Will I? Why should I. What has she got left to live
for? If I do this, what will she become?" said the old man somberly.

"She'll learn to Dance. I knew it once, I gave it up so that I could have my
family. You know it, You know why I did it Lord. I know now that I was
selfish. My family paid for it. She can take up where I left. She can learn
the Dance." said the ghost.

"If you think so. I'll give her the chance. I don't do this oft, or lightly.
but she's needed. The magic is killing the world. You gave up the fight, she
must take it up now." said the old man.

"She will." said the ghost.

"Right then." Said the old man, placing his hand upon the body of the girl a
glow emenated from his fingers. Lurching and gasping Dahliana breathed again,
her body, the pain, almost unbearable, but she was alive. She fell down again
to the ground, a deep sleep coming over her.

"Right, she can't know I've done this, not yet. But you, can help set her
feet upon the path. After that, its time for you to come to me." said the old
man.

"Yes Lord Panmorne, I understand." said the ghost.

Chapter 1

Innocence lost

Dahliana was in the garden, pulling weeds, and trimming back the growing
plants. She lived on the small homestead with her extended family. They were,
all of them happy. Her parents, her brother and she lived in a small cottage
next to her grandparents more robust home. On the other side her uncle, aunt,
and cousins. All of them living together, in harmony raising what they needed
and living well.

Dahliana was taught by her grandmother the arts of poultices and healing, as
all her female cousins were. A small herb garden growing next to her
grandmothers home provided most of what they needed to sustain themselves in
healing and sickness. Her family was at peace.

Her young cousins scampered around the small homestead. Their joyous laughter
almost contagious. Suddenly though, a hush fell over the farm. A dark
portal, light around its edges seeming to fall in on itself opened before her
grandparents home. Out stepped a tall, gaunt figure, and behind him several
shambling bodies. After they all cleared the portal, the true horror began.
Creatures, dark as night funneled out of the portal running out into the
farm. Then the silence was broken, screams of children and women filled the
air.

The men ran out of the field behind the homes with just their tools in hand.
They did not last long. The creatures fell to the scythes, but there were
just too many.

Dahliana watched in horror as her grandfather, father, and older cousins fell
to the creatures. The last to come out of the fields was her brother.
Instead of engaging the creatures he ran straight for the robed figure.

"Ahhhh yesss... You will do. Grzzzz" came the words as the figure pointed at
Dahlianas brother, who mid-stride fell to the ground unconscious.

Dahliana screamed then, a small sickle in her hand she charged the man trying
to get in between it and her brother.

"No, I have what I need... You... DIE!" same the words as he pointed at her.
Her heart stopped at that moment and she fell to the ground.

"Gather the boy, feed on the rest. We depart." said the figure making a
gesture and opening another portal. The scene was horrific, bodies of men,
women, and children in various states of consumption left to rot. Nothing
would grow here for a long time. Nothing.
