Chapter 4

A multi-colored spectacle

One floor below, the robed man stands beside a large black cauldron, filled to
the brim with a bright multi-colored substance. Directly above it a small
glass orb, held by a stone creature on a pillar that used to support the
staircase that lead into the bell tower. Almost within arms reach sits Shami.

Clearly absorbed, the man only has eyes for whatever is going on in the
cauldron. Emboldened by that and the obvious worth of that glass orb, Shami
inches forward to grab it. Crawling carefully, clearing holes in the wooden
flooring she approaches. After what feels like an eternity Shami holds the orb
in her hand, success!

IN-TRU-DER DE-TEC-TED, MAS-TER!

As the stone creature's head turns towards Shami fiercely red eyes glare at
her. Shocked she seems unaware of where she is and steps back. Falling through
a hole she avoided before, she tumbles down. Orb still in hand.

SPLASH!

Shami has fallen into the cauldron! As the orb touches it's content, it seems
to absorb all those colors.

BAAANG!

After a massive explosion of energy there is nothing but darkness and silence
now. Although fully engorged with that multi-colored energy, Shami is still
alive. Slowly she grabs the edge of the cauldron and pulls her head above the
rim. The blast has flattened the old chapel, the place nothing but a
scattering of old stones and blackened wood. No trace of the man.

Baffled how she could have survived such a blast, she checks herself. She
feels some pain and some minor aches from being smacked onto the ground, but
otherwise she feels fine. The most dramatic change is that she now has become
covered with multi-colored tattoos, criss-crossing across her body.
