Early life as a street urchin

A child of an unfortunate birth Shami was a street urchin for as long as she
could remember. The orphanage did their best to provide proper lodgings and
education, but all that was far too mundane for the unquenchable curiosity
Shami had. She spent most of her time on the streets, returning to the
orphanage only to sleep when the weather was too harsh to sleep outdoors. The
steady meals, meager as they were, were also a boon.

Driven by said curiosity and quite able to use her small stature and the brash
courage of youth to her advantage she soon became adapt at stealing and pick
pocketing. Although she appreciated the challenge and the adrenaline rush, she
did it mostly to survive. She only took from those who seemed very well
capable of affording the loss. This sense of morality didn't really matter
much as even the things she considered a 'score' amounted to very little in
real value and life was dire.
