Chapter 2

Belief and the Maran Kal. Questions and companions of interest.

Belief. That is what one must have. Perhaps Hoshkean knew it before.

But he certainly knows it now. As he sat in Shokai's Shrine within the
Graveyard of the Gods, he heard a faint voice within the beating of his
own heart. Speaking of how the Skyborn faith lives on in himself and
those who believe.

Hoshkean immediately had a moment of clarity. He thought about the three
tenets of Shokai's faith. Victory. Strength. Destruction.

And it made sense. Belief. Strength of conviction. That was the key to
the Destruction of the wicked, and the Light's Victory. He briefly
celebrated with some Heralds by having a copy of the Maran Kal from the
Lyceum made. He carries this manuscript around with him now, it is his
most treasured possession as it is representative of the Skyborn, and
something tangible he can hold. Hoshkean has decided that he would like
to see a copy of this manuscript in the Hall of Light within the
Fortress.

Now, Hoshkean turns his attention fully on the Fortress and his path
toward the Maran. As he seasons himself in battle, he becomes ever more
resolute in his path and knows it is the right, the only one, for him.
Duty is not a choice. It is a calling, a divine mandate, and something
that Hoshkean throws himself into whole-heartedly. He may not be the most
jovial person, but he tries to show a softer side, even if it is not
second nature to him. It is something he struggles with.

Hoshkean is still confused as to how he came to be. He speaks about it,
from time to time, hoping to find others like him. He found one, who also
worships an old Faith. Oranthelu. But Oranthelu spoke of being in combat
a long time ago. And just all of a sudden being here. He has a past,
unlike Hoshkean. He also believes Corrlaan is merely lost.

There are similarities, but Hoshkean feels differently about Shokai.
Shokai is not lost. He is simply dimmed. His power lives on in Hoshkean,
and he hopes that he can offer Oranthelu some help in his own path. He
also believes there is some similarity between Oranthelu coming from the
past and Hoshkean simply coming into being....but what?
