The Goggles

It was a very short time after leaving the academy that Arleshi stumbled
upon her first experience with the shadow plane. The Master of the Planes
offered them the chance for a new task, one that would give her experience in
seeing outside the visible world, from a realm where color is outside the
normal range of vision.

The job, was to use some glasses, or more specifically goggles, to enter an
auxiliary library, past the Kaubris Hall nearby, and hunt down a dangerous
familiar that had been set loose by mistake. The familiar could only be seen
using some antique pewter goggles, which let her see things that had a violet
aura about them when the goggles were worn, but otherwise could not be seen
at all. Striking down the familiar spirit was no easy task, and while she sat
in the hall recovering, she reached out to some other adventurers, asking
questions and realizing the connection that what she had just experienced was
related to the shadow plane.

She was there for a long time, days in fact, as she talked to others, thought
things over, and studied the goggles, when as she retraced her steps to learn
more, she realized someone had slipped in and placed a new set of the
goggles! Taking those as well, she wondered if there could be more! And sure
enough, after some time, another set was there for her to retrieve, and over
time she ended up with a small pile of pewter goggles on the floor in front
of her. Reaching out again, she worked out a plan with a thief named Rorik,
who confirmed some suspicions she had about storage he and his associates
kept secreted away, that could serve as a place to hide some of these goggles
away. She worked out an arrangement with him, delivered a bag of the goggles,
and he placed them in places they would be safe, for a quite some time, where
they could be retrieved when she was ready to see this shadow plane for
herself.
