She moved slowly through the room, and each crystal seemed to respond to her
presence as if the soul within longed to experience her life. However, each
crystal also seemed to respond to her experiences as if judging her. Memories
of her own frenzied flight washed across her as each crystal forced her to
relive the worst parts of her life. The essence of her being was distilled to
a mechanical core: her need to flee, her need to hide, her need to fight, and
her need to survive.

As she traveled the circle, each crystal dimmed after their appraisal of her
worth. The master of fire found her too cautious in her escape, the master of
ice too reckless in her battle with the golem. With each rejection, she
understood innately why she did not measure up. When she came across the
master of body, the reaction was different. The soul contained within the
crystal resonated with her need to hide, and offered her the ability to move
unseen. The spirit saw her need to flee, and brought forth magic of escape.
After seeing the battle in the cave, there was a resonating understanding of
battle and how she might forge herself into a weapon. This spirit delved into
her core, and accepted her as she was.

What happened after, Eria would never be able to truly describe. After
accepting her, the crystal bloomed with light that enveloped her completely.
The lattice structure of the stone merged with her, and she was rewritten. The
martial and survival knowledge she possessed diminished, replaced by insights
into the manipulation of the veil. She still felt like she was the same
person, but she was someone else as well. Within the span of ten heartbeats,
she had gained a lifetime of mastery in the arcane. After it was done, the
crystal dimmed to nothing, the magics within exhausted.
