Chapter 17

Kytria, the Teacher
Added Fri Mar 18 12:33:04 2022 at level 51:

Many of Kytria's confidants and companions have perished, including Odren and
Pierri. She misses Pierri the most and wonders if her reclusiveness was part
of why he disappeared from the Inn. Dohri still speaks of loving Kytria even
though Kytria has tried to push the Prophet away. Most recently, Kytria took
Dohri to Land's End, made Dohri promise that she wouldn't be upset, and then
took her own life. Predictably, Dohri was quite shaken. Kytria explained that
since Dohri has seen her corpse, she should not hesitate to strike if they
ever faced off in a battle. Dohri has taken to calling her insane and now
plans to write Kytria an argumentative letter instead of a love letter. Kytria
knows that Elder Prophet will still hesitate, and it bothers her immensely
that Dohri believes so blindly in love and goodness.

In an attempt to take her mind off of Dohri, Kytria journeyed with the Emperor
to Trothon. She tries to pull him from the Empire, but he remains steadfast
with his allies that do not care for him. In her heart, she knows that Ceva
losing his place within the Empire would change his life for the better. Once
they reached the top of the tower, Kytria drew from the Deck of Many Things
three times in total - hoping to strand the Emperor and Kredge in the Tower...
and failed in that.

Kytria's spirits were lifted when Jessamine returned to the Inn. The dog did
not greet her and her fears were realized when Jessamine ambled back to the
refuge in Aubade without so much as looking at Kytria. Why would Jessamine
wait for her and then leave? At the same time, Kastravan - a promising
scribe-bard of the Fortress (according to Dohri) - came to the Inn with the
intention of drinking with Kytria. Overcome with pain at Jessamine leaving,
she informed Kastravan that she didn't drink. The bard ignored her ill mood
and pointed statements, so Kytria asked him to journey with her to the Sea of
Despair. He trusted her to pray over him, and she gave him some seaweed to
eat. They plunged into the ocean together. Kytria put Kastravan into a healing
sleep, prayed for cancellation of his water breathing, and watched as he began
to drown in his sleep. She took the time he was asleep to lecture him via
yelling - that she really did mean that she didn't drink on nights she was
sad, because she was prone to doing upsetting things. Unable to watch him
drown in earnest, she worded him home. He was very upset at this 'petty'
display and seemed to learn nothing from the whole scenario. He hesitates on
building a friendship with Kytria, as he should.

Why are all those that reside within the Hall of Golden Sun so eternally
blind? She has no answer for this and for the many other questions that occupy
her mind.
