But my Empire fails to get anything done. They all slumber in their bunks
while owls lurk ahead, waiting to transform into jaguars.

And I have not been able to kill much on my own.
I suppose I have failed.

Memories

I remember when I was young. We lived below, of course, as all of our kin
Never met my father, fool had vanished like a ghost.
It takes a strong will to raise our kind, down there.

We did not belong to one of the ruling houses of Teth Azeleth,
and if we did, I hardly doubt we would be welcomed anyways.

"Our society does not reward those who are abandoned."
"The abandoned reward themselves".

My mother's words, not mine.


So I did, learning what a bit of coin and a bit of initiative could do for my stomach.
Scrounging after the patrols. Stealing, even, though I consider that to be a shame.
No, no, a shame, with my talents.
And so, I found myself gainfully employed, as a pair of eyes for one of the many dubious
businesses in the depths.
I never looked backwards to see what they had inside,
for my limbs trembled with fear for what would emerge out of the dark.
But it kept me fed, and I suppose that's better than being dead.

And so, I had clawed my way to an existence. Enough rations to support my family.
A meager existence, but an existence still.

And then, you know the funny part?
Our downfall came not from the slavers of the deep dwarves,
nor from the caprice of a spider priestess,
but rather... a quite intrepid group of adventurers.

They had come, like so many before, to seek the glories of the Underdark.
All I felt, was a hard strike to my throat, and a crash on the back of my head.

I awoke to them talking.
talking about the equipment they had looted,
apparently from my bosses' stores.

As they turned to leave, a cat dressed in leather wraps raised his sword,
as well as his sharp, denuded claws.
At this moment, a human, in shining plate stepped between us and intercepted the blade.
"He is only a child. Can't you see?"
As they grumbled... I managed to wrestle free from my bindings and escape into the tunnels.

As he pursued, I noticed an image of a radiant sun, branded on his cuirass.
"Wait!"

But my mother taught me,
"Our society does not reward the abandoned."

I turned back around, drove my head down, and bolted.

Shadow Lord

I am now Ceva, Shadow Lord.
I am not at all surprised that I have come this far.
Dedication in service of the Empire pays off, no?

What I most relish from my newfound position is the piercing gaze.
This shall enhance my killing abilities...
Most battles are not won by force, but by vision.

I wonder if I shall assume a more intelligence-gathering based role, because the current strength of our enemies.
Patience will serve me well as I grow to quench my knives with their blood.

Imperial Shadow: Evasion and Doubt.

Imperial life proves more difficult than he expects,
despite the generous accommodations of the city, and the companionship of the Citizens.

He serves the Shadow Lord Sadeha, who proves to be a demanding mistress.
The dark-elf struggles in one-on-one combat, and doubts his dreams
as he falls repeatedly by the blades of the Empire's enemies.

He befriends the Heralds. Atrissa, Odren, and Zicci.
Though some would mock the Heralds, he sees their value
as the Inn is a safe space.

A tool to be taken advantage of.
The Lyceum likewise. He reads intriguing tales of the past,
and, most importantly for his failing constitution,
liches, mummies, and wights.

He finds himself lying in repose at the Inn.
He is unsure... is he truly seeking rest...
or is he afraid of those who stand against him?
Unacceptable... yet...
He will fall soon should he stand into the light.

Early life

A dark elf...escaping from the treachery of the Underdark...
for reasons he does not mention to others.

Remembering the cutthroat nature of where he grew up, he resolves
to become a lethal killer, capable of slitting the throat of anyone in the lands.

Doubting that the others would accept him anyways, despite their honeyed promises,
he takes the bloodoath to the Empire, and grows within its ranks.
