Tristhana Moorlebund the Priestess of Envy, Advisor to the Chancellor

Description

Locks of wavy blonde hair fall to the shoulders of this pale elderly woman.
Many areas of her scalp are completely smooth, with the bald circles
dominating the majority of her skull. Her eyes are surrounded by a number of
thin crow's feet that crinkle together when she smiles or frowns. A golden
honey hue surrounds her pupils before feathering into a nutty brown at the
edge of her irises. High cheekbones rest above thin lips that have been
tinted a rosy red.

Looking at her arms, it is immediately obvious that some sort of terrible
accident has afflicted them: the fingers' flesh, shriveled and twisted,
clings to the bones like wax to a candle. She often wears short sleeved
tunics - baring her wrinkled skin and splotchy crimson burn scars for all to
see.

On becoming a Scion, or not
Added Wed Feb 3 12:52:26 2021 at level 51:

On Becoming a Scion...

+ After her dream in Seantryn, Tristhana felt compelled to leave the Spire.
While she can't abandon Dollerveim, she sleeps easier now that she is no
longer subject to the rules of being a magistrate.

+ Morius' offer to join the Scions both confused and surprised Tristhana. She
doesn't find herself worthy of such an affiliation and was content to live out
the remainder of her life without cabal ties.

+ While the power and secrets of the Scions appeal to her, Tristhana is still
a meticulous realist. The Scions have not accomplished their goal to date, and
she doubts that her entrance to the Chasm would change that significantly.

+ She spoke to two of the Scions, and knows enough of the Advisor to find
little to envy in the cabal aside from the aforementioned benefits. The
members of the Scions are reclusive, paranoid, and at odds with each other.
Tristhana would lose ties with those who care for her... and worse still, she
would lose the ability to influence and manipulate others.

+ Tristhana is terrified that she will disappoint Morius, but sees no way to
reconcile her desire to continue spreading the faith and influencing others
with the wishes of her lord. He said that it would be her choice, but she
cannot shake the feeling that she is failing again.

Broken Dreams and Salvation
Added Sat Dec 5 18:11:14 2020 at level 1:

While her newest father was not abusive, he was adamant that Tristhana was to
study transmutation in Galadon. He hoped that the lessons from her guild would
provide the structure needed to shape her into a daughter he could be proud
of. While Tristhana did well in her studies, she rebelled often, spending her
nights at the docks, drinking and flirting with men who appreciated her for
who she was.

Her father didn't give up on her when she ended up pregnant by a gangster
named Favarn. However, his expectations that she follow in his footsteps as a
renowned magistrate remained unchanged. The pressure continued to mount until
a failed transmutation spell shifted the muscles and organs in her body -
stifling the life growing inside of her. When she awoke from a deep healing
sleep, the healer informed Tristhana that he had saved her life at the cost of
her ability to ever bear another child.

Tristhana was overcome with rage and grief. Every happy family that passed
through the market square was a reminder of all that she had lost. After
drinking herself into a stupor, Tristhana realized that this was Favarn's
fault. He had failed to protect her. Worse still, he had failed to protect
their child.

A few weeks after her epiphany, Tristhana found Favarn with another woman in a
room at the Inn they had stayed at together. She spied upon the couple from
the keyhole and whispered an incantation to fatigue their muscles. When they
fell asleep, Tristhana cloaked herself in a spell of invisibility and slit
their throats.

Satisfied with her revenge, Tristhana returned to the bar to drink and was
approached by a charismatic priestess of Morius by the name of Bruxa. Despair
and years of painful isolation won out over the urge to remain silent. She
told Bruxa of her childhood, her failed dreams, and the envy that echoed
deeply in her heart. In return, the priestess told Tristhana everything she
wished to hear. She clutched Tristhana's hand in her own, promising her that
she could find a family in the church. Bruxa validated her and spoke of the
strength that could be found only if one embraced their vices.

A drunken Tristhana followed Bruxa to the church of Virtuous Vices. Using the
knife she had wielded hours before, an already broken girl sliced open her
abdomen just below her navel. Blood trailed down her stomach and thighs before
dripping onto the stone floor. Tristhana sobbed as the last vestiges of her
childhood dream were forced from her mind. Tristhana Moorlebund repeated a
simple manta over and over. "I don't need a child. I have a family in the
church."

Guided by Bruxa, Tristhana raised her voice in praise to Lord Morius, pledging
herself to a life of sin in His name.

Convergence
Added Thu Dec 10 11:24:06 2020 at level 22:

Umbrand reached out to me and seems to know me. I don't trust him and how he
thinks we were all happy. How could he be so blind? They imprisoned me.

Vrimold still hates women. I had thought he'd grow out of it. He respects
strength and we're amiable enough.

Ahrloire is a guillable fool. He actually believed me when I lied about
poisoning an elderly foster family of a paladin and a healer. It's easy to get
under his skin. I need to keep working on that.

I like Vizgrathol. He commented that he wasn't an orphan and that there was a
lab in the Manor. His brother abandoned him. His assessment that Ardenwood
sounded more like a prison than an orphanage is rather apt. I could see him
and I being allies.

Those of the Light from Ardenwood are grouping together and forming alliances,
I sent a missive to Vrimold stating that we should do the same.

Dollerveim is strange. So much of me hates everything about him, but he tries
so hard. And now he is in the Blood Tribunal. What do I do?

I went to Aturi with Vrimold to investigate rumors of the farm family, but
didn't find out much. Vizgrathol went looking for information on the manor.
Perhaps we can find someone to bribe?

Flowers and Blood
Added Wed Dec 16 20:05:31 2020 at level 39:

Nastrella, the lover of flowers. She is the opposite of me, in some ways. She
fears some horrid monster in the thickets and stayed inside the walls of
Ardenwood and Seantryn. She thinks she is still hunted and seeks out the Lord
of Loss. Her dreams were horrid, involving her being ripped apart. There is
something broken inside her - like two pieces of glass that cut your fingers
when you try to join them. She is distant and has bouts of unexplainable
hostility. I hate most everyone, but it's hard to hate her. She accepts me,
and I accept her.

Umbrand is still himself, telling Nastrella and the others that I am tainted.
Thankfully there are still some from the manor that listen to others. They
wait to judge what dear old 'Dad' has proclaimed as truth. I want to rip his
throat out.

Vrimold is nicer now. He got me two lockets. I still want to ruin him though.
He's so powerful and smug.

Dollerveim still wants to befriend me. He has no idea who he looks like, and
I don't intend to tell him. He can eat candy till his teeth rot out.

I had a dream. It was the first since I left the manor. I dreamed of my child,
and we were together in that perfect place that never was and never will be.
He was concerned for me and worried about what I had done to myself. Perhaps
it was symbolic. A younger me might have strived to become the mother he
needed, even if my body is barren. But I am ruined... and I won't ever have a
family. I have to live for me.

Meetings, Hallucinations, and Paintings
Added Mon Dec 21 20:54:32 2020 at level 41:

+ I met my Lord and everything Bruxa said was true. I have a family in the
Church. I have the company of His congregation and His benevolent love. I do
not know how anyone else could follow any other faith. I am happy to be
accepted, but I know I must prove my worth.

+ My Lord asked me to speak with Greed and Rage, and I look forward to the
opportunity to learn more of their sins. There are many ways to indulge and I
will record each and every one.

+ I went to the Inn to celebrate meeting with my Lord and I heard the voice of
a child. Their voice cracked, and they were looking for help. I thought
Dollerveim and Cejea to be cruel, but they did not hear or see the child as it
darted past the fire. Did the dream shake me to such an extent? I have been
drowning the memory with work, but now I am hallucinating.

+ Zorellaia wanted information on a drunken Tribunal member with ties to the
Manor. I believe she meant Leopohl or Dollerveim. I threw Leopohl under the
wagon. Why not? She might be a savage, but she would have found out either
way. I didn't get any information from her as to the why, which means that she
broke our bargain. I will make her suffer.

+ I met with Dollerveim in my Lord's church and told him of Zorellaia's
searching. I made him apologize for calling me tainted. Umbrand will apologize
too - or maybe he can just die. I felt a rush of great pleasure at having
Dollerveim apologize within His holy place.

+ Vizgrathol seems to want to preserve and further his life by melding his
spirit with the body of a golem. He still seems to trust me.

+ As for whether I trust him... he hurt Nastrella, so I do not. Preying on the
dreams of other orphans is something I cannot abide. Unless they're the
self-righteous sort of orphan, that is. I wasn't sure if Nastrella was telling
me the truth, but then I saw the painting he made. I will seduce him. I will
keep befriending that damned Scion and then I will rip his heart out.

Dreams, Dreamers, and Coexistence
Added Fri Jan 1 14:24:24 2021 at level 46:

+ Tristhana has been made aware that Maeneekoni and Ariendil conducted some
sort of ritual that involved dreams and potentially obscured her memories.

+ Dollerveim offered to lose his prayers if it meant Tristhana could heal from
being barren. She states this to be stupid and rather pathetic and has refused
him. Deep down, she is touched that he would care.

+ Ehrlon's theory is similar to Dollerveim's but the insistence that dreams
and nightmares cannot coexist with the dreamer has led to her throwing in her
lot with Ehrlon, Vrimold, and the other dreamers. The 'dreams' must die so
that the dreamers can live. Lonfedric must die before he acquires some
mysterious power. She tried to bring Dollerveim into the fold, but he cares
for Umbrand too much and Ehrlon does not trust him. This hurts and frustrates
Tristhana.

+ Tristhana is conflicted about supposedly needing to kill Nastrella. She
won't, but knows that the others likely will.

+ Tristhana has asked Ehrlon and Vrimold to kill her and take all her
possessions so that she can mislead Umbrand and the other 'dreams'. She wishes
to walk a fake path of redemption, but worries it will displease her Lord. How
deep can envy go? How far can an envious soul go to save their own life and
crush those who have harmed them?

+ Even if she fails, she is confident that this will add confusion into the
mix and potentially keep the dreams from banding together.

+ She has promised the androsphinx that she will learn of love and whether it
has a place in her life. While she continues to tell herself that she has no
desire to have a child, she cannot lie and say she does not wish to be loved.
Does the husband in her dreams exist? Will he even want her? Should she want
him given how horrid her past relationship was? Or is the Church enough?

Impotent Rage
Added Fri Jan 8 17:13:55 2021 at level 50:

+ Learning of love is a messy endeavor and Tristhana finds herself getting
bogged down in the particulars. She speaks often of suitors, but her inner
focus remains on companionship and mutual affection. To this end, she has
prayed to Nalasul and might speak to others. She is unsure if her Lord would
support her loving someone else.

+ As a priestess, Tristhana finds herself being pulled by the petty envy of
things and relationships that she could not possibly take. She now focuses on
punishing the Villagers who hold power over her, per the direction of her
Lord.

+ She continues to try and mislead Umbrand and the other goodly souls. Her
anger and projection around what happened to Vrimold (and her own experiences
with abuse) have led to her reactions being far less measured and witty than
she had hoped.

+ She hates how much she cares for Dollerveim.

+ Tissie continues to infuriate her by mentioning fireflies that appeared in
the Tree.

+ Trsithana watched Ahrloire get removed from the Fortress and her fear at
losing another dreamer and having her brother be upset caused her to seek out
Azorinne.

Fake Dreams and Real Wars
Added Tue Jan 12 15:22:12 2021 at level 50:

- Tristhana created a fake dream involving a burning tree with embers that
fell to motes, her being pregnant, and Veldren being nearby. While no one
openly questions her 'recollection', she had hoped to throw suspicion towards
Veldren.

- Tristhana had a lengthy talk with the Sunwarden and is undecided whether she
babbles on her faith or information that could be truly useful to the orphans.
Maybe both? Tristhana is leery of Maeneekoni, as she knows too much about the
orphans. Mae implies that Zorellaia is her dream - a different version of a
Priestess who would interfere in the lives of the Dreamers.

- Tristhana is pleased that her discussion with Dollerveim led to a war being
started between the Empire and the Village, but it is not enough. She has
little to offer the Outlanders other than fake dreams and (false) promises to
leave the Spire and fears she will be unable to start a war without
extraordinary efforts. Dollerveim is now the Vindicator, and he cares for her
and hates criminals - so the Villagers should suffer some.

- Tristhana went to see Daphedee and prayed, hoping to learn more of the love
between Gaspare and Daphedee. The conversation left her hopeful that she can
find someone who accepts and cares for her as she is. They spoke about
Ahrloire for a time, and Tristhana was intrigued to hear that he had pushed
Daphedee away.

- Haelior has admitted he wants Ahrloire as a side kick, but only if Ahrloire
comes to him begging. Tristhana counseled both sides, offering to help Haelior
and giving advice to Ahrloire to pray to Morius if he truly wished to know
more about Haelior.

Inescapable Envy
Added Mon Jan 18 15:29:41 2021 at level 51:

- Tristhana has learned that the warrior she brought to the Church has been
blessed by Morius before her. This causes her to feel a profound amount of
envy and even greater pain as she covets something she cannot possibly take.
She feels that neither rage nor greed would serve her - as Vrimold did not
wrong her. It is a strange sort of envy, and one that sits inside her stomach
like a rock.

- The Village Commander is dead and the Village has been far less of a problem
since the Spire gained a Vindicator, but it remains difficult to get the
savage Outlanders to do anything other than sit in their trees.

- Her trust in Ehrlon is fraying. She is unsure if he is a true ally. At
present she considers herself mostly alone.

- After her talk with Greed, Tristhana is working to gather items of value -
as well as thoughts and secrets that she can treasure. Vrimold's admission
that he felt *something* for her is a good start, but she craves deeper
secrets.

- Having Dollerveim admit that he was happy her life was getting better within
the Church made Tristhana feel better (and intolerably smug). Though he still
offers to fix her womb, she knows that her Lord would be furious if a goodly
divine interfered with her body. Further, she is growing too old to bear
children. The envy she feels over those who have children has lessened over
time due to her denial. However, her hatred of those who have families -
especially those with parents and/or spouses - has festered.

Balance
Added Fri Jan 29 12:24:06 2021 at level 51:

+ The Church is thriving with Lussuria and and Talvok joining as supplicants,
as well as a prospective follower of Rage in Tarla. Laq claims to have prayed,
but Tristhana feels this might be a bluff. Tristhana is pleased by the surge
in the congregation and wishes to attend the event Dollerveim is holding so
that she can host a better event for the Church.

+ Ansellus believes that the fire was started by Ehrlon, but has nothing to
back up his claims. He seems isolated from the rest of those connected to the
manor and Tristhana wishes to seize that and drive him towards rage.

+ Tristhana has successfully gathered items for Greed and has taken on his
challenge. She was tasked with getting Vrimold to give up something he wanted.
She got him to promise that he would not hunt his most hated enemy
(Ganndretia) mindlessly and that he would do his best to survive for a future
where he and Tristhana could end up together.

+ Tristhana was removed from her leadership position as a Pronvincial
magistrate. Her initial reaction was to be angry, but that has dulled as she
realizes she now has more time to seek out treasures and hunt with the
Imperials.

+ The motes in the sky have worried her, but whatever eye popped up to search
for something avoided her and Dollerveim. While she still doesn't trust Ehrlon
or Vizgrathol, she will go to them for advice and see if they have any leads.

A Real Family
Added Sat Dec 5 18:10:21 2020 at level 1:

Tristhana's escape from Ardenwood Manor was precipitated by raging flames that
raced through the building to devour four of the orphans that were too slow to
wake. She stood on the cobblestone street just outside the manor as it was
razed to ashes. Tristhana barely listened as a magistrate hugged her and
assured her that they would find a real family for her.

Over the next ten years, Tristhana was shuffled from one foster family to the
next. Dreamless nights bled into days filled with uncertainty and loneliness.
She spent just six months in Seantryn with a dysfunctional couple. Her foster
mother ignored her and her foster father was drunkard that stared at her body
like he was appraising a fine steak. She fled after he had come to her room at
midnight, screaming another woman's name in a fit of rage. He had hit her
repeatedly, mocking the patches of hair that were missing from her eyebrows
and scalp.

Her next set of foster parents were merchants. A lengthy journey across the
seas saw her bruised body safe to Hamsah. Her new foster family promised her
that she would never go through anything so horrible again. Predictably,
Tristhana declined to reply. When her foster mother was pregnant, Tristhana
was moved to a room in the back of the spacious house. No explanation was
given aside from some vague mention that she would be 'a poor influence on
their new angel'. She wouldn't be a poor influence at all! She was destined to
be a loving mother. Why couldn't anyone else see that?

Crushed at the wrongful assessment, Tristhana sold some of her mother's silver
jewelry to pay for a packet of poisonous spores from a scarred urchin she
found at the docks. She slipped the spores into her mother's morning tea,
causing her to miscarry and nearly die. While her family never suspected her,
her foster father decided she would be better off in Galadon. Tristhana was
ushered into a carriage and sent to live with a magistrate - Ohlan Moorlebund.
If anyone could set her on the right path, it would be him.

The Altar and The Empire
Added Tue Feb 9 09:05:06 2021 at level 51:

+ Tristhana spoke to Ishuli on how one should start research if they lack a
foundation and sources. She tried setting up meetings with the other orphans
in an attempt to gather what they all know, but the others have little
interest in the cause. Umbrand sees no use in gathering information and
Tristhana has opted to gather what she can on her own.

+ Vrimold fell and Talvok committed suicide. Tristhana feels even more alone
in her faith now that the once bustling church is empty. She misses Vrimold
and promised him that she would hunt Ganndretia. There are few things stopping
her from joining the Scions now, and she wonders whether she would still be
welcome.

+ Tissie fell to the eye/altar and Tristhana is hurt and agitated that Tissie
would lie about the fact that she was going to be taken. Ganndretia managed to
escape death again and this infuriates Tristhana beyond words. She is
attempting to pretend that she feels something for Ganndretia, but it
difficult to do so. Her anger spills out when speaking to others.

+ Tristhana felt Tissie's spirit calling her to a shrine after she died.
Tissie's remaining possessions were there, including a bottle of stardust.
Tristhana made a mistake in entrusting the bottle to Lussuria. The Bandit
Queen stole the bottle and now Tristhana intends to do everything in her power
to see Lussuria cast out from the Empire. Her options are limited and she
plans to speak to Ahinu about joining the Empire in exchange for casting out
Lussuria, though she really doesn't wish to join. Tristhana wears the locket
of Lonfedric's hair around her neck, fearing that thieves might steal it.

+ Tristhana is unsure where she stands with Morius. She still preaches and
maintains her faith, but is shaken from the events at Rahsael's cathedral. Why
did the flames glare at her? Is this a form of penance for rejecting Morius'
offer and travelling to another church?

Salvation, Scions, and Scholarly Research
Added Tue Feb 16 13:44:33 2021 at level 51:

+ Orphans and dreams (or shadows?) are dying quickly, and not all of them to
the altar. In the past few days, Ahrloire killed himself - presumably losing
his fight against temptation. Tristhana hasn't seen Ehrlon in some time, and
believes that he took the same route.

+ Tristhana is well and truly alone now. Dollerveim is constantly fighting and
doesn't know she is a member of the Scions. Tristhana still cares deeply for
Nastrella, but finds it increasingly difficult to trust someone that is drawn
to a faith that harmed her and the other orphans.

+ After decades of being envious of Vrimold, Tristhana is overjoyed to receive
her Lord's tattoo. At present, she alternates between being fiercely proud and
wanting to show and tell everyone... with testing what strength the tattoo
provides when invoked.

+ It only made sense for Tristhana to join the Scions and she has finally done
so. With Laq and Vrimold dead and Ahinu choosing Lussuria over her, Tristhana
wishes to bring the Empire to its knees. Barring that, she hopes to further
the research efforts of the Scions.

+ To that end, Tristhana will entrust the book of her research findings on the
orphans to Kithervroy and Morius. Perhaps this power can be harnessed by the
Scions. What dreams would it take to find a ritual to free the Nightwalkers in
earnest? Maethien seems to be a good start - the area is overrun with them...
but it is not enough.

+ Beyond that, Tristhana seeks to poison Thera against Rahsael and his
faithful. An excerpt of the book provided to the Scions - highlighting all of
the horrid occurrences of the altar - can be published to change public
opinion. If it is immortalized in the Lyceum or elsewhere, it should taint
opinions for ages to come.

Lapses in Judgment and Eternal Allies
Added Sun Feb 21 13:48:33 2021 at level 51:

- Tristhana's lapse in concentration proved costly. She spoke to the Scions
while in her Lord's Church and Lussuria heard her. The Empire learned quickly.
For the remainder of Thera, Tristhana decided to make her allegiance known on
her own terms. When an upstart young (18th title) Villager challenged in the
arena and earned her ire she called forth a nightwalker and was the talk of
the arena.

- Tristhana is agitated at the fact that she was found out through her own
incompetence, but she now realizes that those who cared for before still do.
Dollerveim does not hate her, Socrag is still her friend, and Nastrella does
not seem to mind. Gwendelya is still willing to work with her on their
research. Even the Provincial magistrate Seraxan does not mind that she is
Scion. While many will distrust her - her most important allies are intact.

- The success of her Night of Sin event lit a fire within her and inspired her
to write on envy, given that it is not one of the sins recognized by the
Church. She hopes to continue writing on sin as a complement to her research.

- When she lost her beloved eagle staff, she was surprised at how many people
were willing to aid her. Young adventurers were willing to kill the giant for
a sum of gold... but Vizgrathol and Seraxan both got the same staff for her.
Seraxan retrieved her initial staff and Vizgrathol acquired another one. While
she initially felt no shortage of rage for him because of how he scorned
Nastrella, she now wonders if he could be an ally.

- She has regained some of her memories from Ardenwood and is including them
in her research. She wonders - why can she remember Erithan but not Umbrand?

A new family
Added Tue Mar 2 11:30:48 2021 at level 51:

+ Tristhana desires to lead the Scions in place of Kithervroy as Advisor, or
perhaps as something more. Morius has told her to take the knowledge and power
she desires. Given that Kithervroy has shown no aptitude for scholarly
inquiry, Tristhana will harness her envy to attempt to kill Kithervroy
instead.

+ Veldren confessed that he was in need of additional vitality to prolong his
worthless life and Tristhana did her best to flatter him into coming to the
Church. She kept emphasizing how strong of a warrior he was, and now he has
been offered a deal by Morius. If Veldren does not commit, Tristhana will
publicly announce his lesser faith in hopes that he loses any value he had to
Nalasul.

+ Veldren also confessed to being the reason the Manor burned down. Tristhana
isn't convinced - how could a Villager start a magical fire? Did he dream of
Vizgrathol who started the fire at his behest? In any case, into the book it
goes!

+ Tristhana has been granted the boon of rageful flames by her Lord. She is
eager to try it and build up a family within the Church once more as the size
of the congregation has started to dwindle. The talk of research did shake her
somewhat. She is unsure whether her musings on manipulation would be welcomed
by the Chasm, and she fears being another Scion that speaks boldly but offers
nothing.

+ Tristhana misses Dollerveim and is filled with rage that Umbrand refuses to
see the sacrifices she made to protect him and Nastrella. While she was
initially considering trying to aid him, his cruel words about her supposed
intentions were too much. Let the Altar have him.

her shrine. While Tristhana's anger nearly overwhelmed her, it was tempered
somewhat by the killing of Tjur by one of the faithful priests of the Church.

+ With her inquiry about the Apostles of the Church answered, Tristhana is at
an impasse. She knows she has precious few years left in her life, and wonders
if she has spent too much of her time recruiting. Seeking to build a family
within the Church is not wrong, but placing the first of the written tenets to
the side while one does so *is* wrong.

+ Tristhana finds it difficult to live her entire life embracing the sin of
envy as an Apostle should. She has spent most of her time being envious of
things that she might not ever have like Tissie and Lonfedric, Dollerveim and
having Umbrand as his father, and Vrimold gaining the favor of her Lord before
her. She rarely envies the Battleragers or those who lack faith, as she knows
that the love and favor of Morius outstrips any temporary strength they might
find through the head or their weapons.

+ For now, she meditates on the nature of envy itself. Who has wronged her? Is
it fine to envy them solely for their ability to wrong her even if they don't
have much going for them in their own lives? Simply coveting their possessions
out of a desire to hobble them seems like pure greed... and lashing out
against those who have wronged her is rage alone. Where is the intersection?
Will others still be drawn to her and seek to join the Church if she is filled
with bitter envy? Can envy be less bitter, and more empowering?

+ For inspiration, she looks at her initial talks with those in the Church.
Those on the list she provided to Rage are all dead, save for Vizgrathol and
Umbrand. She is not angry at Vizgrathol any longer, and views him as a
potential ally. Umbrand, on the other hand, is worthy of all of her rage. She
plots to kill him, knowing that he hides in the city

Paranoia and Shadows
Added Wed Mar 24 13:09:34 2021 at level 51:

+ After a rather grumpy few years due to her age and general frustration,
Tristhana has recovered from her moodiness by meeting a new ally - Hibble.
Together, they gathered many of the items she has long desired, and at the
ripe age of eighty two years old, Tristhana has both the ragged cloak and
circlet of flowing shadows.

+ Her initial plans to go to the Shadow Plane with Vizgrathol seem to have
stalled. She is unsure if he lied, went alone, or whether he simply doesn't
desire to go. She wavers between wanting to go on her own and trying to focus
her research efforts elsewhere.

+ Tristhana has spent many evenings wondering about her place in the Church.
Originally, she lived by the motto: 'Be like Bruxa'. She wished only to bring
others to the faith and cared for little else. As she ages, her envy has is
based in paranoia. She is hateful of others like Lussuria who could become
more loved by Morius. In her spare time, she plots for ways to hobble them,
even as she acts open and caring.

After recalling her very first encounter with Morius, she has pledged herself
towards ruining the reputation of the Fortress, Umbrand, and Rahsael. She will
use the event at the Inn and (hopefully) the hatred of the remaining orphans
to show that he is an ineffectual liar. While Umbrand did have the family
Tristhana desired, she will remind him time and time again of how many have
died, including his son.

+ Tristhana is pleased that Jagre has joined the Church and that the faith is
growing within the heart of the Empire. Part of her worries that her preaching
was ineffectual, and she loathes the fact that Jagre refers to Morius'
interest as a 'game'. She believes Jagre might become Emperor so she seeks to
aid the giantess where she can, hoping to gain favors and blackmail material
that she can use if Jagre ends up doing too well.

Depression, Dead Relationships, and Diary Entries
Added Fri Apr 2 10:40:10 2021 at level 51:

+ Tristhana is an emotional wreck. She is depressed and very angry.

+ She feels that she is being ignored by Morius and has grown to hate Jagre
more than she ever hated Lussuria. She weighs her waning life against her
ability to kill Jagre, and is prepared to die her final death to kill Jagre
once. She will seek out the crescent dagger in the Seantryn palace to hedge
her bets.

+ After the events at the manor, Tristhana has to face the entirety of her
life with new eyes. She had her dream the whole time - Lonfedric was real,
even if he was the son of a different version of her.

+ Was it Tristhana's fault that they never had a relationship? Was it
Lonfedric's fault for expecting her to turn to salvation? He's dead now, and
whatever relationship they could have had is dead too.

+ Was there more to be learned from Tissie? Perhaps there wasn't and Tristhana
simply survived out of spite and envy. Or maybe there was. Tristhana *really*
doesn't want to think about that... or the fact that Umbrand wasn't the source
of all their problems.

+ Her parents never abandoned her. She did have a family, but the Empire
killed them. Her desire to topple the Empire is stronger than ever, but she
fears that she is too old to effect real change.

+ The events within the dream-manor must be recorded, and she works with
Gwendelya to revise the manuscript.

Plans and Portents
Added Tue Apr 6 10:34:12 2021 at level 51:

+ Tristhana is overjoyed to finally be leading Scion, though she knows that
her position is extremely precarious. Being put into a position in order to
make others envious is good for the Chasm, the Church, and Morius, but it
means that others will act to take what she earned. She also knows that she
has a limited time to enact her plans and has focused on getting the Chasm to
a position of power before she dies.

+ Tristhana seeks out bard to write a missive for her. In it, she plans to lie
to all the potential applicants by implying that the Chasm (and perhaps
Morius) fervently wishes for a Chancellor. She is considering straddling the
line between envy and lying by playing to the fact that most underestimate
her. She knows that most of Thera is aware of her lack of combat prowess, so
why not speak of her own weaknesses to attract the more martially minded? If
they are stupid enough to believe that Morius would choose them over her, they
aren't a threat. If he does choose them over her, they are worthy of her envy
and the better choice for the Chasm.

+ Tristhana needs allies in the short term and hopes to gain an item of
sufficient power to maintain her tenuous relationship with Blok. Having him as
a mercenary would be ideal, though it might sully relationships with the
Tribunal.

+ Kira's lack of acknowledgement of their once-deal proves that the Provost
has decided to side with the Empire. Tristhana had predicted this and watches
the Empire carefully to see if there is any way she can influence the Council
or oust Ahinu.

+ Tristhana has tasked her first pledge with a task. Ryaine, a low titled
necromancer, has been tasked with acquiring the stuffed bear from the siege
encampment before her 36th title. She must retrieve it from the chest with her
own hands. Tristhana is proud of her first attempt at a task, as Ryaine has
claimed to be a seeker of knowledge. Can a seeker of knowledge bend the will
of others? If not, she is just an ambitious scholar.

On Survival
Added Sat Apr 17 16:13:24 2021 at level 51:

+ Since her last journal entry, the landscape of Thera has changed
drastically. There are more pledges, but many opted to end their lives
early. Her potential ally, Blok, is dead. Itzenxilaatl is dead. Umbrand has
passed on too. As if he sought to incite her envy one final time, Tristhana
witnessed a vision of Azorinne ushering him onto eternity. While she joked
with the Scions about this, Tristhana is bitter. Did he ever have a moment
of his life that was not charmed?

+ She has focused most of her effort on finding good pledges. While her game
was a failure in some respects, it has given her new ideas for ways to test
the pledges in the future. Morius' praise has fulfilled her and she hopes to
create a task that cannot be bested by simple conjury spells.

+ While Miraja did lie to her in part, Tristhana wonders what uses the imp
and his meatbag could have in the future. She is minorly paranoid that both
Miraja and Vizgrathol will seek her position or kill her.

+ With few targets remaining for her envy (aside from the young, those with
happy families, and those who her Lord favors), Tristhana seeks to inspire
envy and bitterness in others. She plays the pledges against each other and
also draws their ire onto herself. She reminds Vizgrathol that she was
invited to the Chasm, and prods at most everyone else.

+ There is a measure of loneliness in her heart. She is now the last orphan
and only three dreams remain. Survival sure looks less triumphant and
celebratory than she had imagined without Dollerveim, Vrimold, or Nastrella.
Even though she recognizes few of the young adventurers, she is proud that
her text has been published in the Lyceum and determined to make the most
out of her remaining years.

70600, Tristhana's Role Chapter 1

Role

Chapter 1

Dreaming of Love and Escape
Added Sat Dec 5 18:09:34 2020 at level 1:

Ardenwood Manor was not the home that Tristhana wanted. Scratchy wool blankets
covered the cot she slept in - suffusing her body with a restless energy that
fed the daydreams of her next escape attempt. Each night had a similar ritual.
Tristhana blocked out the whispering voices of the other orphans and focused
on the hazy memories of her forest hideout. If she focused, she could remember
the hollowed out log she had slept in before ending up here. She pulled the
hair from her eyebrows as she fought to envision every step of the path back
to her home. Had the magistrate led her past a tavern? Which stump marked that
the hidden entrance was nearby? The pain from her incessant plucking centered
her and kept her awake until exhaustion won out.

When she finally succumbed to sleep, her dreams provided solace. Tristhana
imagined herself in a forest hideout that was better than the one she left
behind. Braided vines were lashed together to form a hammock outside of a
small cabin. She dreamed of a better Tristhana too - an adult who had fallen
in love and created a family of her own. Her beloved husband was always within
reach. His golden hair shined in the sunlight as he played with their
daughter, Melia. Melia had her father's hair, Tristhana's brown eyes, and
pudgy feet that were endlessly ticklish. Life in the forest was idyllic for
the young couple. They sang songs together and tended to a small garden that
brimmed with herbs and vegetables. Feelings of peace and happiness for her
family provided the backdrop to the dreams that Tristhana desperately wished
to make real.

Tristhana's days were bland and her memories of them are fragmented. She
recalled eating at set intervals and wandering the manor whenever she could.
Eventually, the other orphans stopped asking her to play with them. That was
fine by her, as she had a home elsewhere... if she was strong enough to get to
it. As she wandered, her brown eyes would catalogue the shadow boxes and curio
cabinets that were just out of reach. The gilded trinkets, ivory carvings, and
strange mementos called to her, each offering themselves as a decoration or
tool for her forest home.

When the orphans were forced from the manor to the gated yard for physical
recreation, Tristhana would retreat to a tall oak tree where no one would
disturb her. She climbed to the branches in the middle and rested her back
against the trunk of the tree. One evening just before sunset, Tristhana saw
fireflies in her periphery. As the insects moved closer, she reached out to
touch them, only to find that the twinkling motes faded upon reaching her
fingertips. Upset that there weren't any fireflies, Tristhana climbed down
from the tree and wandered back inside to daydream of escape once more.
