Werlik Groflitz the Grand Master of Changelings

Description

Ivory colored skin marks this young man as wood elven though their renown
features are heavily understated in him. Slightly blunted pointed ears and
softly colored brown hair. His right foot seems to be missing in it's place
is a silvery metallic looking peg that has a clear magical presence to it.
Scars cover his body from head to toe but they are in jagged fashion giving
his ivory complexion an almost stripped look to it. Closer examination show
these scars have patterns to them showing that these wounds were inflicted
intentionally and methodically.


Despite his ragged and deeply tortured body his eyes are a piercing blue
and filled with deep warmth. Strange that they left his eyes alone along with
with his face. A dark and faded mark of the anathema is branded into his neck
which is also devoid of scars as if this was meant to be clearly seen. As you
look closer you can see.....

Chapter 7

update

Things have changed for him considerably. He has become strong enough to
fight against the Empire and to a lesser extent defilers of Thar-eris. He
finds his victories to be hollow but needed as they do bring justice to them
for their sins. It doesn't bring them any closer to a better life.


He seeks to try and find a way to aid Leradas in finding a more natural way
to bind his elementals and archons/angels. Though he knows of no way to do
so...still they deserve to be in a mutual beneficial agreement.


Having made his vow he intends to try to teach others of the evils of the
empire while hunting them himself. No enemy in his mind is greater but
despite this. He knows they can escape their fate but only once they have the
will to try.


and Ayalene are concerning him. He knows those two fighting will only
lead to them hurting their own souls. He knows that Zodel is wrong but that
doesn't preventhim from advising Ayalene to not strike out at them and
simply call them out for their dark deeds.

Chapter 6

Brief summary

His life as a naive child of dungeon guards to his time as an imperial
prison to his will be broken and accepting the bloodoath to his time as an
Imperial Blade to his time as a tortured anathema prison to his time as an
anathema on the run protected by another anathema who turned their life
around to his eventual return to his home and parents.


All this lead up to him hating Imperials, endlessly questioning what justice
truly is, confusion on what he seeks to do moving forward, his physical body
being destroyed severely, his entrance into the shapeshifters guild to make
up for the former issue, and his eventual faith in Lady Azorinne. (This was
from a culmination of everything and his deep inclination toward justice) He
has spent years suffering and has trust issues...though he understands there
is kindness and forgiveness within the Light. He distrusts those who adhere
to order but know everything isn't always set in stone as right or wrong in
cases like this.


Overall he is just a good man with a bad past that is trying to make sense of
it. Hoping to bring justice to those who hurt him and others. He learned
offensive forms because he needs a way to fight against these people. He
lives in evermoon with his parents still. He has no idea whether he will seek
out outlanders or the Fortress.

Chapter 5

Redemption

Thinking back taking a seat and explaining everything to Herflitz was likely
the best thing he could of done. He spent a few years recovering his body
while living secretly with herflitz. Slowly and painfully he fought against
the corruptive power of the bloodoath that he inflicted upon himself.

Slowly he is feeling guilty about his staying freely with herflitz and keeps
asking him if he can go out to study to fight again. He wants to be able to
stand on his own and fight if need be...to be of some use to the man who has
given him so much. Eventually Herflitz relented and helped smuggle him over
to the shifters guild...with Werlik's broken body there wasn't any other
guild he could join and still be able to fight offensively.


Soon he learned the basics of the guild until a new a issue rose as when he
practiced the partial shifts his peg leg would fall off as he formed back
he'd collapse. This became a constant issue which hindered his progress
within the guild. The guildmaster contacted a friend of his that might be
able to forge him a magical peg leg that would shift along side him.


Though there were risks with this as it is possible information could leak
out to for who it was for. It took years of careful planning and execution
until finally he was fitted with a silver mithril enchanted leg.


Unfortunately despite their planning imperial spies gained notice of his
actions and were waiting for him at Herflitz's home. He gritted his teeth but
knew he couldn't back away. He entered to see Herflitz's shirt torn open
showing the same mark that Werlik bore. Standing to his side was the Imperial
Inquisitor smiling cruelly at Werlik. "Well look at this two traitors in the
same place. It must be my lucky day. Though I never would of suspected that
Grodish the beheader would have done so much to hide himself."


Werlik confused was slowly piecing everything together. Why he was so
accepting of him and why he was so fearful of him being caught. Herflitz
closes his eyes looking serene as he prays softly to himself as the
Inquisitor yells "Execute him now before he finishes his prayer!" Werlik sees
the divine light of his prayer finish and is excited that Herflitz is about
to escape as his surroundings fade in a burst of Light.


He finds himself standing in Evermoon's altar as he realizes what had just
happened. She screams deeply in horror with the knowledge that he was just
saved again by Herflitz...and he lost the closest thing he had to a friend.
This causes some of the guards to rush to him due to the commotion as they
find out who it is..


They rush past him though Werlik isn't aware of them or what him being
there means. Cautiously his mother comes out from the crowd of guards and
rushes to hug her son. In the horror of everything he still is in a state of
shock. His soon rushes out from the crowd....everything is as it should as

Chapter 4

Anathema

Unlike before they carve out chunks of his flesh in new and inventive ways.
Ruining his body as the scars grow back in more twisted and thick ways to try
and protect his poor body from harm.

his neck is the mark of the Anathema seared into his flesh. Normally
they would kill him outright but with the Inquisitor's request and approval
of the dark gods. He is kept alive so he can suffer endlessly within their
dungeon. Eventually they slow down the torture and allow him to recover
without being fully drained. He sees this as his chance to escape so he gnaws
through his leg that is attached to the shackle. Slowly but surely he hits
bone before weakening it to the point that it snaps off.


He groans quietly in pain as he watches his body heal itself slowly as he
bleeds deeply. He breathes deeply as he focuses on calming himself hoping to
heal himself a bit. The wound starts to heal over a bit but it starts to heal
over the severed part...not regaining his missing foot. He doesn't have time
to think on this as he prays to in hopes of someone allowing him to bring
justice to the Empire as he feels himself laying in the Dark Altar in
Galadon.


He doesn't have any gold to pay the healer so he crawls himself over to the
paladins guild and passes out there.


He wakes though he has no idea where he is. He finds himself in a warm bed
alone in a dark room. Panic starts to fill his mind wondering what is
terrible things will happen next but he dispels though thoughts as he
realizes he is nicely dressed. After a bit of time he forced himself to get
up hearing an odd wooden tap looking down to find a wooden peg on his leg.
How long has he been out?


He hobbles over to the door as his first instinct is to run away and he
finds a strange man sitting in a chair facing the outside the door. He has a
calm warm smile but his eyes show hints of wariness. "Was wondering when
you'd wake up. Not sure how you got yourself into whatever mess you were in
but sure do know that mark on your neck." Subconsciously Werlik rubs the
mark on his neck as he scans the room for an exit.


The strange man says "You are free to go anytime you wish but thinking you
might want to rest up a bit, grab a chair and we can talk."

Chapter 3

Condemnation

5 years have passed since he took the bloodoath and has found himself as an
Imperial blade in service to the Empire. He has made a name for himself as a
fierce warrior committing atrocities in his pursuit of Imperial Justice.


Align: Evil Ethos: Orderly Class: warrior


Werlik goes about his duties as he plunges his blade into the heart of a
villager who couldn't pay their tithe to the Empire. Worthless creatures he
thinks to himself. The taxes aren't that high the least they could do was pay
their fair share to our glorious Empire. Suddenly, he hears a report of two
spies being caught near the Imperial dungeons.


Curiosity has him so he heads back with his pockets filled with the
Empire's gold. Cleaning off his blade with a spare rag as he calmly struts
back. He arrives as he sees what he believes to be the spies being taken into
the Imperial square for judgement. Werlik squints as he starts to make out
the two people captured. A relatively young looking wood elven woman and a
middle aged human man. No...it couldn't be...he feels something strange
tugging at his soul..guilt and shame seem to surge within him.


It was unwise but he couldn't help himself as he lurched forward shouting
"Wait! They are my parents!" A hateful glare from the Imperial Inquisitor
stops him cold. "Do you believe that is just reason to stop their judgement,
Blade? They have clearly broken imperial law by assaulting the palace with
intent of freeing our prisoners."


Muffled words come his gagged parents as he glances at them seeing the
horror and pain in their eyes. Guilt assaults him knowing he betrayed
everything he believed in...the power of the bloodoath had been suppressing
these feelings but seeing his parents reawakened them.


The Inquisitor grins cruelly as a wicked idea crosses their mind. "Since
you have such deep ties to them how about you carry out their sentence."
Something inside him compelled him forward as he drew his blade. Walking
toward them with cold eyes but inside he was fighting himself. If he doesn't
do this he'll end up back in the dungeon just like before or worse...


Just a quick thrust like the villager and it'll all be over. Any questions
on whether this was a mistake or not will be cleared up. As he thrusts
forward his blade being coated in bright crimson as his blade pieces through
the Imperial Inquisitor. Chaos erupts around him as several rush to aid the
Inquisitor as others scramble to attack Werlik who quickly cuts off the
makeshift bindings on his parents.


He puts himself between them and the pursuers as he yells "Go I'll catch
up!" though he knows there is no escape for him. His parents run off though
he has no idea how far they made it as he is quickly overwhelmed. He is
dragged off back to the dungeon where he spends months being tortured.

Chapter 2

Indoctrination

Preface


It's been two years of torture and general solitude. Each day seems to be
worse than the last as pain and loneliness wears at his resolve. He knows the
only way for him to escape is to take the bloodoath but he isn't willing to
trade his soul for freedom just yet. He has attempted to remove the shackle
from his leg repeatedly. Even though it isn't fully attached to his leg
(There is a rather large space fit for a giant's leg) he can't seem to slide
it off his leg. It seems to be enchanted with some sort of curse.


*Ripped piece of rag from a set of his previous clothing with charcoal
writing on it*


I've managed to keep my sanity so far by writing with this piece of
charcoal I stole from one of the guards. If someone knew I was down here...if
they could just come remove the enchantment I could be free from this cell.
I'm not sure if they are even looking for me anymore...even if they were how
would they know where to find me?


I keep thinking if I only accept the Bloodoath I'll be free and maybe I can
get word to my parents. The problem is if I do I'm chaining myself to them
body and soul. The only difference will be I'll be outside this cell. The
only interaction I get is when they send down a priest to recite the Imperial
codex for the prisoners. Each day it sounds less horrible than the last. Some
points of are reasonable but it is always twisted forms of justice.


Hopefully they will find me soon I'm not sure how much longer I'll last....


*Six months go by*


The Imperial priest stands just outside his cell glaring down at him. The
priest's eyes zealously demanding something unseen but known to Werlik. He
weakly cuts his palm with a ritualistic blade while his eyes look down
defeated at his palm. The blood drips onto a a gilded and glowing book
crested with the Imperial Codex as the words "My heart, my soul, my life for
the Empire." leaves his lips as he feels hatred fill his soul like an icy
blade cutting away bits of who he is.


Waves of fire cover his body as his weakened body is filled with new life
as he feels the shackles come undone. He only notices he is standing as the
priest continues to pray with cruel joy. The priest commands him to follow
which he obediently does as he is lead in front of the current Emperor. He
perceptively bows as the priest does before he is presented as a new
bloodoath of the Empire.

Captured

Evermoon was an interesting place to grow up in. Despite being half blooded
he was never treated too differently. He was raised to respect natural cycle
of life and death. The reasons why they locked away those who caused them
harm because the weight of death was a sentence too great. Both his parents
work as guards within the dungeon keeping their enemies locked away but cared
for properly. He would sometimes visit the prisoners and talk to them about
how they ended up in their position. Some would lie but others would be
repentant of their crimes against the wood elves.


It was hard for him to tell the truth from lies considering his parents
would tell him exactly what they did. Some seemed a bit too kind to have done
these horrible crimes. This would be his undoing as one day one of the kinder
prisoner's escaped. The entire city was on high alert as to recapture the
escaped prisoner.


Werlik was going about his day normally as he felt something cold and sharp
press against his throat as he was jerked violently backwards. "Just hold
still and don't scream. I'll make sure you survive just like they let me
survive as they kept me caged like an animal." He was dragged to a lesser
known part of the dungeon until a guard tried to stop them. Seeing poor
Werlik at a blade's end they both were let out toward a rather dangerous
escape route through the sewers.


Both of them fell off a waterfall at the end of the tunnel and Werlik found
himself drowning within the rushing waters....everything faded to black.


Drowsily he roused as he went to move he heard a clanking sound and a
feeling of cold iron against his flesh. Fortunately he found himself dry
within a new but dirty set of clothes. He rose to his feet to observe his
surroundings only to find that he was in a cell of sorts. Filthy and smelling
of decay these cells were nothing like the ones he had seen before in
Evermoon. This place was horrible....


A familiar voice came from down the hall. "Liking your new commendations
there you damned whelp?" It was the prisoner...he thinks their name was
Tyrranial? Werlik shouted at him "Let me out of here!" Though Tyrranial just
laughed at him, An Imperial Codex brand reflecting the torch light, "Look you
ain't goin no where for now. Just relax until we figure what to do with ya."
