Jarson the Grand Master of Changelings

Description

Standing before you is a hideous looking man of average height and slender
build. All across his body and stretching halfway across his face, his skin
has thickened into an uneven, leather-like texture. This deformation is
dark-gray in colour, contrasting strongly with his pale skin. Where it has
spread, hair does not seem to grow, giving his dark-brown, short cropped hair
a patchy appearance. To add insult to injury, four large scars can be see
running across the unmarked side of his face.

He appears to avoid eye contact, as his sight continuously seeks the ground.
He is also extremely softly spoken, with a strong upper-class Galadonian
accent, and constantly seems to fidget, unable to remain still. All of this
combined gives off the appearance of a quiet and shy individual.

Flight
Added Fri Oct 12 18:53:14 2018 at level 51:

The Falcon pumped its wings harder, its claws scraping the treetops, as the
dark presence followed.

It had been this way for over a year now: running, flying low and often
crashing to the ground in exhaustion. It must be this way, for it was always
there, always close, and it could not be allowed to take Jarson again.

Memories of that day still haunted his nightmare riddled sleep. He remembered
the Druid, so young, so arrogant. No match for Jarson, Master Magi of the
arcane arts. He could still hear his words, vile and dripping with venom,
full of hate of the magic Jarson wielded. He could still feel the heat rise
within him, the anger, the rage, the Wolf.

And he could still taste the blood.

Though he had no memory of it, he saw the aftermath, the... bloodbath, for no
other word could describe such butchery. This Druid, so young, so ignorant,
yet full of confidence, assured that magic was an abomination against nature
itself and the Wolf had not hesitated to destroy him for it.

Since that day Jarson had run, for the Wolf had felt closer than ever. From
the moment he woke, he would take the shape of the Falcon, take to the skies
and fly till he could no longer. He would hunt as the Falcon, seek water,
and only revert to rest. He would not give the Wolf a chance to destroy again.

But lately something else had been bothering Jarson. He could hear Her. The
lands above which he fled. She cried out to him and Jarson asked himself:
what was it he was truly running from?

Author's note: My laptop died and I hadn't been in a financial situation to
replace it. Sorry for being MIA for so long!

The Falcon and the Wolf
Added Wed Aug 8 22:58:06 2018 at level 51:

"Do you become the beast or does the beast become you?"

It was a question which had plagued Jarson's mind of late. As he had grown
more confident with his new forms, so too had they grown more confident with
him. As a result, it seemed Jarson's oppressed, quiet upbringing had
developed into a split personality.

There is good side of Jarson: the Falcon, which Jarson believes is his true,
free self, but there is also the Wolf. The Wolf is everything he had always
pressed down, now roaring to the fore. It is vindictive, hateful and full of
rage. It has also caused Jarson to question himself, whether he is even a
Sentinel or rather, both Warden and Reaver.

Concerningly, the Wolf has begun to express itself in Jarson's human form.
There are times when his vision will darken and his memory becomes hazy, but
to all others the bright yellow eyes of the Wolf appear. Jarson does not
always remember what was said or done during such times but it is rarely
pleasant.

Worried about this rising Wolf, he seeks answer with the Lords who understand
the Spirit most: Ergush and Rahsael.

Outlandish Acceptance
Added Thu Jul 26 03:46:41 2018 at level 30:

Landing deep within the Forest of Prosimy, the crag soarer reverts back to
its human form. Jarson glances nervously about himself. It is not the woods
that make him anxious, quite the opposite. Looking at the treetops above, he
resists the temptation to join the exotic birds flitting amongst the
branches. No, it is the threat of the unknown that worries him.

Somewhere out here, somewhere close, the Outlanders lurk. Textbooks can only
teach so much, Jarson has no way of knowing how the Outlanders will react to
his presence. Nor does he even know how to announce himself.

Moving slowly, Jarson attempts to creep further into the woods. What feels
silent to Jarson, rings like an alarm bell throughout the rest of the forest.
Every step lands heavily, often crushing dried leaves or snapping twigs
beneath his feet. At his side, Jarsons bulging coin purse rattles with
every moment.

Thinking back to his studies, Jarson tries to recall what he knows about the
Outlanders. The study spoke of Thar-Eris. Was that a person, a God, a belief?
He could not be sure. He knew they sought to beat back civilisation, before
they went to far, destroying the world and ultimately themselves.

Dwarves, Orcs, Conjurers and many others were their foes. Jarson cringed as
he thought back to the pair of Orcs he travelled with when young, trying to
please his Guildmaster. Would they accept him? He did not know. Would they
harm him? He hoped not.

Did he even want to join them? He was not sure. All he knew was that this
plague threatened to destroy everyone and everything, and that he would do
whatever it took to stop it.

*** Authers note ***
I have never played an Outlander before, this is my IC and OOC
way of figuring it out. Please bear with me.

Soaring Purpose
Added Thu Jul 26 03:35:19 2018 at level 30:

Pumping its wings harder and harder, the crag soarer continues to reach
towards the clouds. A rush of exhilaration fills Jarson as he finally enters
the fog, briefly blinding him in its whiteness. Suddenly, the flying reptile
bursts through the opposite side, looking down on the cloud's soft,
pillow-like surface. On this side, it is all warmth, space and beauty, as
there is nothing left to block the sun's brilliant rays.

Screeching in delight, Jarson dives back through the gentle cloud, picking up
a huge amount of speed. Blasting through the bottom of the cloud, Jarson's
joy is suddenly replaced with horror. He continues to plummet, his reptilian
body momentarily frozen in shock, before pulling into a smooth glide.

Looking down, Jarson surveys that which has caused his stomach to drop. From this
height Jarson can see Galadon sprawling to the west, Hamsah in the east and
Voralian City in the north. By comparison to the natural lands surrounding,
they're dark, blotchy eyesores, bleeding filth and smoke into the air.

Everywhere he looks, Jarson can see the impact they've had on the land. As
though the cities were the source of decay and the creeping roads surrounding
them their foul tentacles of death. From this height the scarring upon the
land mirrors that which covers Jarson's skin. That which took his brother.

Rage once again begins to fill Jarson, the spirit of the raging bull rising
within. Looking down at the land once again, Jarson's heart hardens with
resolve. Since his brother's passing he has roamed this land without
purpose, without direction, but he now knows what he must do.

Turning towards the east, Jarson begins his long flight to the Forest of
Prosemy. He will seek out the infamous Outlanders, the wildlings he read
about in class and dreamt about in his sleep.

The Raging Bull
Added Tue Jul 24 09:09:26 2018 at level 25:

Looking across the dusty arena, Jarson eyes his foe nervously. He hated the
combat trials, he knew they were an important part of his studies but it was
not the reason why he had joined the Shapeshifters guild. His foe today was
Gorax, the ringleader of a group bullies that harassed him constantly. To
make things worse Gorax's major focus was offense, taking the form of a
black panther, which easily took care of Jarson's own form: the firefly.

As Jarson continued stare, dwelling on the unfairness of it all, he felt his
vision darken slightly.

"Going to fly away again, Lizardskin?" cried Gorax, followed by a chorus
of mocking laughter from around the arena.

Jarson glanced across at one of the instructors who stood passively to one
side. Why did they not interfere? They all knew how Jarson was treated, it
was hardly a secret. Why was he even facing Gorax? They knew this was not a
fair fight!

Jarson's heart began to race, his breath quickening, as once again the
world closed in, narrowing his vision.

Jarson took in the faces of those around them, many still laughing at Gorax,
who was now in the midst of flapping his arms in mock imitation of wings.

Anger continued to swell and acting purely on instinct, Jarson finally picks
his minor focus. In that same moment, he feels an overwhelming rush of
insight into his newest form: the bull.

Releasing a pent up cry of outrage, Jarson immediately transforms and charges
across the arena. His vision blinded with rage.

Suddenly Jarson finds himself in the stands of the arena, surrounded by who
were moments ago laughing at him. None laugh now, all stare at him with a
mixture of shock and horror. Raising a hand to his aching jaw, he pulls his
hand away quickly. It is covered in blood, his blood. Grasping at his robes,
Jarson bunches them up and presses them against his cheek in an attempt to
stop the flow.

Unsteadily, he staggers to feet and looks back into the arena. Glaring
angrily at him is an enormous grizzly bear, fresh blood dripping from one of
its mammoth paws. Confused, Jarson looks beyond the bear towards the crowd
milling around something on the ground. Between the robes of the Magi that
press in, Jarson gets a glimpse of a body laying on the ground: the body of
Gorax.

Panic starts to settle in as realisation dawns on Jarson. Did he do that?
Why? He would never kill another. How? The firefly can't even... a strange
sensation sweeps through Jarson. There's something else, a new form. A
bull? An offensive form? When did he learn that? Why?

Soon more and more eyes turn from the body back towards Jarson. Retreating
slowly towards exit, Jarson turns suddenly and breaks into a run. His feet
instinctively shifting into hooves.

He doesn't stop, upon reaching the guild entrance he keeps running. Shoving
civilians and guards aside, he continues sprinting towards the west gate,
towards his escape.

He knows he can never return to Galadon.

Lizardskin
Added Sun Jul 22 20:06:02 2018 at level 1:

Chapter 1: Lizardskin

"Hey Lizardskin!"

The ground suddenly rushes up to meet Jarson Black. Crying in pain, he looks
up as group of shapeshifter apprentices pass by. The ringleader, a
particularly nasty brute by the name of Gorax places a boot on Jarson's
rising form and shoves him back down again.

"Stay on all fours where you belong, Lizardskin!" Gorax taunts again.

Laughing loudly, the group continues past. Leaving Jarson to gather up his
possessions. Watching the group leave, a familiar feeling fills Jarson. It is
not the pain of being knocked down or being bullied. It is the angst of
loneliness that has tortured him ever since his brother's passing.

Years ago, before Jarson ever considered becoming a shapeshifter, he and his
twin brother Devin had been inseparable. The dynamic duo, they had done
everything together, including getting into all kinds of trouble. It was this
that led to Devin's end. The pair been exploring Galadon's sewers when
Devin slipped into a pool of waste. Helping his brother out, Jarson had been
exposed to his share of filth too, but not covered like his brother.

A wasting disease soon found both twins, it spread across their bodies, a
creeping plague of death and decay. Its cure evaded all healers who saw them,
eventually taking Devin's life. For whatever reason it did not take
Jarson's though, but that wasn't to say it didn't leave its own mark:
covering most of Jarson body was a hideous, scarring, deformation of skin.
Lizard skin the other students called it.

It made Jarson an outcast. The other kids feared him, as if he were
contagious, or openly mocked him. It was the reason he decided to join the
shapeshifters guild, against his father's wishes, who himself was a famed
Invoker. Jarson thought he might one day transform his skin, perhaps find
companionship again.

It was also how Jarson eventually found his escape: the Feanwyyn Weald. He
and Devin used to frequent the woods in their youth, it was risky, daring
adventure. Now Jarson went there to escape the staring eyes of the city.

Safe in the quiet, peace of the woods Jarson finally did find friends. It was
the birds of the Feanwyyn. Unjudging, curious and free, these birds would
approach Jarson and eat from his scarred hands. He would watch them for
hours, flitting from tree to tree, not a care in the world. Jarson envied
them and it would ultimately lead to his major shape focus.

Summary (Chapters 1 to 3)
Added Sun Jul 22 20:00:24 2018 at level 1:

Disclaimer: this is for Immortals who do not wish to read a lengthy role or
simply wish a quick reminder.

Summary: Jarson will eventually seek Outlander and may follow Rahsael or
Ergush. He is a extremely socially awkward, quiet and shy. The exception is
when he is in form, he channels the Spirit of whatever form he takes.

Air (major shapefocus) gives him a chance to escape, to be free and is the
only time he feels himself. Offense allows him the channel the suppressed
anger he feels about the world.

Chapter 1: Lizardskin

- Jarson Black was born into a Galadonian noble family with his twin
brother Devin.
- As young children the pair were inseparable and quite adventurous.
- On one such adventure within the Galadon sewers, the pair fell
victim to a wasting disease.
- Devin did not survive and Jarson's skin was left hideously scarred.
- As a result, Jarson was constantly bullied and had no friends.
- He found solace in the wilderness around Galadon, spending many
days feeding and befriending the local birds.
- Unlike his father, a respected Invoker, Jarson chose to become a
Shapeshifter in an attempt to hide his scars.
- As per his fascination with birds, Jarson naturally chose Air
as his major shape focus.

Chapter 2: Rage (to be added when first offense form learned)

- Guild life was rough for Jarson, his isolation made him anti-social
and his scars a pariah. This only caused the bullying to worsen.
- One day, during a sparring duel with a particularly nasty partner,
Jarson snapped. Rage boiled out of him and in a moment of anger, he
chose his minor focus: offense.
- With a cry of anger, he shifted into his new form and charged his
tormentor catching him off guard, out of form and killing him instantly.
As a result Jarson fled Galadon.

Chapter 3: Purpose (to be added when first high flying form learned)

- Jarson had finally learnt his next air form and his dream of reaching
the clouds was real.
- Taking to the sky, Jarson relishes in the freedom, the exhilaration
of being utterly free.
- Looking down from the sky, he sees something that auses his stomach to
causes his stomach to drop out from within him: the land is scarred and
ugly, like Jarson himself, and it is spreading.
- It is in this moment Jarson realises what he needs to do, join Outlander
and stop this plague, before it destroys everything.
