Description

This dwarven male stands roughly four and a half feet in height.
His frame is seemingly as wide, reminsicent of a tree trunk, with
bulging muscle that hints at years of intense labor or training.
His face is round and his pale skin flushes slightly in his cheeks.
The most prominent characteristic of this dwarf is his beard which
hangs past his navel. It is a mix of red and light blonde in color
and is kept meticulously clean. It is tied into two thick braids,
roughly the size of a human's wrist, with golden silk. His eyes
are a deep blue that pulse periodically with a hint of red. Set
between them is a large, wide nose that has clearly been broken
in the past. Other signs of hardship are visible in the form of
several marks and abrasions. The worst of which is a jagged set of
scars on his neck. He is clad in ornate, polished armor that has
the crest of the outline of a mountain with twin peaks and a large
inverted Y rune branching underneath like roots.

Chapter 4

The Magistrate of Galadon

Grasdraal has come far since he began his journey. He was admitted to the Spire
as a Magistrate by the late Provost Karvesh. He was immediately stationed in Galadon,
a station not common for new Magistrates but Grasdraal assumed he was rewarded this
honor due to his noble bloodlines and his history representing the Kingdom of Akan
in the realm's royal courts. While he always liked and respected Provost Karvesh he
had to question the promotion of Sqierna to Provincial. Sqierna's reputation was so
horrible that tales of her corruption had even reached Akan. Grasdraal chalked this
up to diplomacy, keeping the evil bastards happy and all by giving them representation
but he also knew from his days in the court that if you give these people an inch
they will try for a mile.

Even more importantly he met with Lady Ishuli and was empowered by the Witch. He shared
stories with her of his time in the courts and his unique means of discerning the
intentions of his hosts by drinking all their booze. He wrote a piece at the Lady's
request outlining something of these. It's a work he's very proud of. He chose to study
the path of Venoms, to better understand the weapon of choice of most assassins in the
royal courts.

Grasdraal has been a solid presence for the Spire but also a bit of a lightning rod. The
Lightwalkers of the Spire take a delicate hand with the Outlanders, something that Gras
regards as a dangerous mistake. He has gone so far as to kill Ischer for attempting to
regain the Fetish. An act which has horrified Ilyana and Scelpth. While Grasdraal takes
no pride in this, not like killing the Orc Chieftain which he won't shut up about, he
also doesn't lose any sleep over it. He was doing his duty. It is as dedication demands.
Ischer chose his path and his path is dangerous to Akan. Therefore Grasdraal will do what
he must to maintain his Kingdom (and by extension, civlizations') interests.

Beyond this he has been waging a fierce war with the Empire who he regards as servants of
the dark forces in Mortorn and "pretenders to the throne of Order". Furthermore his dwarven
loyalty has been tested by the BattleRagers who slaughtered Sobcejea, or "Sobby" as Gras
likes to call him. Most of these Villagers were on friendly terms with Grasdraal prior but
since he has killed all of them to avenge his little comrade. These grudges, while inherent
to the dwarven soul, may cause problems in the future. Grasdraal is semi-conscious of this
fact but is powerless to sway his emotions. He has a big heart. Despite what Ischer might
tell you he is a goodly soul.

As he goes forward Grasdraal's only goal is to become Provost. To bring more honor to his
family and to strengthen the Spire to the point that it redefines the direction of this Age.

Chapter 3

The Son of Akan

As Grasdraal begins this quest it is important to remember the following:

I) Grasdraal is an Orderly Good soul. While all Aensgaard tend to be neutral
in alignment Grasdraal, like his mother, has always had a golden aura. This
impacts how he views and interacts with the world as he believes fully in a
"greater good". As an Orderly soul he approaches his faith and work with a
strict structure in mind. He desires to be precise in all things.

II) Grasdraal worships the Lady Ishuli who he regards as the ultimate
manifestation of wisdom and knowledge in these realms. Two qualities that he
believes are essential in accomplishing his quest.

III) That quest, quite simply, is the defense and expansion of Dwarven Honor,
ideals and the Kingdom of Akan as a whole. Born under the stars of Dedication
Grasdraal approaches this quest with unrelenting zeal. He believes that as a
"Son of Akan" that he must put his family and Kingdom first in all things.

IV) He will join the Blood Tribunal as ordered by his father. This is a perfect
fit as he regards civilization and Order as being vital for the Dwarven people.
Furthermore he regards the Law as a perfect manifestation of Dwarven Honor and
its ideals. Lastly he will seek the destruction of the Outlanders as they have
long been enemies of Akan.

V) While he finds some commonality with the Fortress he also disagrees with their
approach. The Aensgaard family has long taught that the war against darkness is
not winnable. It was designed by the Gods to be an eternal struggle that will wax
and wane accordingly. Chaos, however, can be destroyed through the expansion of
civilization. He feels that the Fortress would be better off to join in the fight
for land instead of spirit.

VI) He regards the Empire as foul manifestation of Order and believes their
approach to be counter productive. He also despises how they tend to view the
Spire as mere pawns. He will seek to see the true defenders of Order exalted
over these "rats" as he calls them.

VII) Grasdraal will do whatever necessary to see the Dwarven Kingdom triumph
over the Duergar and the Drows. He will present himself as a statesman and takes
great pride in his family's crest and history. He speaks mostly proper Theran
but give him a few ales or put a duergar in the room and you'll see some of that
"Akan dwarf" come out of him.

VIII) Ultimately he is a deep soul with a holy mission. To those who earn his
trust he will be a great companion. To those who earn his ire he will remind them
that Dwarves hold grudges like no other.

Chapter 2

The Courts of Thera

In the modern day the Aensgaard Clan is represented most notably by the second
born son of their Patriarch, Grasdraal. Grasdraal's father sought to expand
the family's interests by placing his second born son in the Court of Ale in
service of the King of Akan.

It is no secret that the King of Akan is a bit crazed. Though his advisors would
prefer we say "eccentric." This makes posts like Grasdraal's extremely important
as these Courtiers became the face of the Kingdom. Grasdraal was educated in
political nuances and spent most of his free time in the great Libraries of
Thera where he studied Dwarven history, political ideologies, religious paths
and the history of the great races of Thera. It was during this time that he
began to understand that knowledge was integral to the success of his Kingdom.
From this came his devout worship of Lady Ishuli. While an odd choice for a
Dwarf of his standing, this was typical for Grasdraal who, while eternally loyal
to his heritage, still tends to go about things his own way.

Over the next three decades Grasdraal did nothing but travel from Court to Court.
He represented his Clan in the Sky Court of the Arials, the Griffon Court of
the King of Darsylon, the Horned Court of the Empress of Seantryn Modan and
even the Court of Spiders in the bowels of Teth Azeleth. In all of these he
observed how the Kingdoms operated. He did his best to represent Akan interests,
to help the war effort in Motorn and most importantly: to undermine the Duergar.

During this time he began formally training as a Shaman, another unusualy choice
from a House that is known for its warriors. He returned to Akan expecting to live
out his days as an advisor to the Court of Ale but instead was surprised to learn
that the King and his father had decided to send him to Galadon to represent the
Kingdom in the Blood Tribunal.

This decision was mostly rooted in the need for representation in the mainlands.
For the Aensgaard family it was also about expansion, the creation of new supply
lines and prestige.

For Grasdraal it was an opportunity to leave his mark on this world.

Chapter 1

The Roots of the Stone

Our saga centers around the noble House of Aensgaard, a Dwarven family
who has proudly served the Kingdom of Akan for many Ages. The Aensgaard
family has made their reputation through warfare. Their warriors have
provided escorts for the King of Akan's convoys and even as personal
bodyguards for the King himself. To most the Aensgaard Clan is admired
for their fierce dedication to Dwaven Honor and its ideals.

Most Aensgaard men draw inspiration from the 4th Age story of Grundsaal
Aensgaard who stood alone against a horde of Duergar and Orcs who were
attempting to cross a bridge into a Valley where a Noble Assembly was
being held between numerous northern Kingdoms. Upon entering a berserkers
rage it's said that Grunsdaal alone held off the hordes as they were only
able to enter the bridge two at a time. For hours the dwarf cut down wave
after wave while the Noble Assembly was able to escape. Eventually the
cunning Duergar defeated Grunsdaal by destroying the supports of the bridge
which caused the heavily armored dwarf to sink to the bottom of the river
where he drowned. His last words were reported as "Sons of Akan, may yer
mugs be everfull and yer axes eternally sharp!"

As word spread of Grundaal's noble sacrifice this saying became the slogan
of the House of Aensgaard. They adopted a crest of the Twin Peaks of their
ancestral home with the rune of fidelity running beneath deep into the earth
which stood to symbolism the Aensgaard's dedication to Dwarven ideals both
above and below which was meant to represent both body and spirit
