Description

Here stands a sprite young woman with a wide toothy grin. She stands just
under six feet tall and is rather muscular for a mage and one of the fairer
sex at that! She wears a dark green robe that is slit up the sides to allow
movement exposing much of her pale long legs. A bright yellow sash is tied at
her waist with a small pouch attached on either side. Long blonde curly hair
bounces as she walks with long strides and her emerald eyes glance from side
to side. A silver tiara sparkles on her head and you notice a tiny ruby
affixed to the front of it. She wears leather wrist-guards and holds a
crocked wand in her right hand.

Folks had recognized Whildur and he hurried past. Perhaps alarmed by his
focus, they followed him. As Serris poked through the crowd by the fire,
Whildur was holding the mirror in both hands looking down at it, but she
could not hear his words over the din. Then he hurled the mirror into the
fire with great force.

The flash from the fire blinded her and the visions returned. Pain,
suffering, betrayal, love... When Serris came to her senses, she looked at
the now calm fire. The Inn was silent. There stood a beautiful figure who had
not been there before. Daphedee was free.

Serris came to learn of Lady Daphedee's forbidden love and devotion to a lich
Emperor and how she had ended up imprisoned in Hell. Now risen by powers that
Serris did not understand, she is free. At least, she seemed so to Serris.
The night is somewhat of a blur as you can imagine. But one that Serris will
never forget, nor fully understand. Though, she will try.

Everyone had heard of the mysterious trader that had shown up at the Inn of
the Eternal Star only a few nights before. He was looking for artifacts.
Strange ones. But, no one could have dreamed their significance. Serris had
her own problems and just smiled politely when people would discuss the
rewards they anticipated for finding one of them. She and her fellow
travelers sat by a campfire one night as they all prattled on about riches
and treasures to be had. Serris began to drift to sleep as their words turned
into a soothing murmur. Cemeteries, blah, blah, silver mirror, blah...
Serris' eyes popped open. She had seen such a mirror among some bones just
days before. Could it be?

"Where are you going?", one asked as Serris stuffed her bed roll into her
backpack.

"Probably on a fool's errand. I'll catch up to you in a couple of days.
I need to go back to the Steppes south of Hamsah." And she vanished
with three magical words.

The Inn was full that night. Rumors of the artifacts had spread. Had they
been found? Did she hold one? Serris circled the crowd around the merchant
with suspicion, try to see what he was negotiating over. Then she bumped into
someone nearly spilling his drink. Looking up as she hastened to apologize,
she found herself face to face with Lord Whildur!

"...excuse me, 'twas you I didn't see!" she half remembers him saying. As he
helped her get her balance, his hand touched the mirror she had not realized
was held tightly in her left hand. A vision of pain and suffering flash
across her mind then was gone. Whildur stared at the mirror and Serris knew
she had found something of great import.

"The mirror, may I see?" He asked gently. She gave it to him. "Daphedee..."
he said under his breath. "Follow me!" Serris hurried after him as he headed
toward the Tale-telling fire.

Personality

Serris is not utterly selfless, however. She's driven to protect the
unprotected not because it is "right" to do so, but because it makes her
irrational guilt fade for a time. She is not driven to cruelty by any means,
though test her temper or betray her and she might seem so. Being raised in
her troupe, laws have little sway as they changed from destination to
destination and never made much sense to her. She like to make friends and
prefers to have a few close ones. She is loyal and fun if she is comfortable
and can speak in various dialects because of her travels. She loves speaking
to orcs like an orc. She still writes poetry, her lifelong passion, and is
slowly improving. Someday, she may share some of it with someone she trusts.

Beginnings

"Serris? *chuckle* She was a bit different. But if I taught her anything, it
was to follow your own road and never stop chasing your dreams. Fool's
advice for sure, but we'll see where it takes her.

I member when she was knee high to a swamp frog. Full of life. Always
wantin' ta try somethin' new. Loved bein' on the road. Course, she had ta.
We're travelin' bards! Can sing 'bout what ya ain't seen! Whoo, boy, she
tried, though. Stuck around a long time after her folks died. Shame. Two
decent folk snuffed out like candles for two lutes and a keg. What's this
world comin' to?

She couldn't sing worth a lick, or rhyme! They called her Serris Songswallow
fer laughs! She'll tell ya tha same. Guess it never bothered her none 'til
her folks were gone. She loved it, though. Just wasn't gonna make no livin'
off it. So, off she went. Joined tha magi I hear. I hope she comes back ta
visit. I do miss that lil girl. A scrappy one!"

Her uncle was right. She was a bad poet and she knew it, so while she kept
her work to herself, she never stopped writing. It was when she reached the
age of marriage that she left the troupe. She wasn't interested in marrying
anyone she traveled with, and that was her only real option had she stayed.
Especially since her parents were gone.

She wandered a bit before she met up with a circus where she worked only
briefly. But there she met a fortune teller who was also a shapeshifter that
would change her life forever. See, this fortuneteller could divine forms you
were suited to learn or help you find forms within yourself to which you were
attuned. Even if she didn't know them! Serris would talk and meditate with
the old woman. They would discuss her parents and their demise when she was
just twelve. She'd always felt guilty as if she could have somehow helped
them. Of course, she could have done nothing. And had she been with them,
she'd have been sold into some Hamsah brothel by the thieves. But all the
while, the fortune teller, more accurately a master shapeshifter, was
attuning Serris' forms. And by the time she left the traveling circus,
though she didn't know the magic, they were ingrained in her. A chimp
because of her mischievous nature. A frog because she could not sing worth a
lick. A yellow-jacket because of her stinging wit. A racoon to steal your
heart. An owl to look out for the innocent in the dark of night full of
thieves. And lastly a horrific otyugh to protect those who cannot protect
themselves...like her parents. The mage gave her the name of a prominent
shapeshifter in Galadon and she left to pursue her studies there.
