Zugnu Rageblood the Warlord of the Grinning Skulls

Description

A skulking orcish creature crouches before you, his bow-legged stance masking
his true height. His long, muscular arms hang loosely at his side as they
slightly graze the floor. His blackish-green skin is covered in blood and
filth, but you notice that he is covered in scars and wounds of varying age,
some still oozing pus, while others have become pale jagged marks, taught
across the skin they interrupt. His eyes are a pale yellow and covered by a
jutting brow. Two yellow tusks protrude above his lower teeth and over his
upper lip, and from time to time you notice the rest of his teeth have been
filed into points.

The smell from the orc hits you in a nauseating wave of filth and rot, most
likely from the various leathers, metals, and fur that has clearly been
cleaned or well-kept. At his belt and on his back are weapons of varying size
and make, all covered in dried blood and gore. As you peer closer at the vile
creature, you notice...

Chapter 6

The position of Chieftain

"I will give you his axe." Kotu, Elite Imperial Blade.
"Soon it will be time to take what is yours and kill Garfuka." Jahku, the Wild Beast.
"When will you kill Garfuka and take the throne?" Some sneakies.

Such are only a few of the similar questions asked of Zugnu, now Warlord and
second in power of the Grinning Skulls. However, Zugnu had no desire to take
from Garfuka the position of Chieftain. Though he did eye enviously the power
held by Garfuka, to rally the hordes and to send them off to battle against
the dwarves in the North, a reminder to his days as a youth when he would
watch them return, victorious in battle, Zugnu had no current desire to usurp
Garfuka. Such was for three reasons.

First, Zugnu still had much to learn. Garfuka held knowledge of the skills of
the orcs that he still had yet to fully understand, and he did not wish him
to hide such knowledge from him, hampering his further growth. Second, the
days for orcs was a dark one. Many roamed the land constantly hunting for
Zugnu in groups, and Zugnu had no desire to create tension within the
village, when instead efforts should be focused on exerting dominion over the
other races and cabals. Infighting would only prove troublesome for the
Warlord. Third, Zugnu respected Garfuka. He saw little weakness in the
Chieftain and respected his strength. Zugnu's time would come.
Zugnu fully understood the value of patience.

Chapter 5

Cabals

Zugnu's views on some of the Cabals of Thera:

Fortress: Chief Garfuka always complained about how the those within the
Fortress were too scared to fight him unless in groups, and seeing such,
Zugnu came to believe all of the Fortress were cowardly or weak.

Battle: The other "village" was a complex issue for Zugnu, or at least
complex for an orc's mind. He was friends with some, enemies of others, and
strangers with the rest. Zugnu desired any elven blood found within the huts,
but he had yet to decide if a second village in Thera was to be allowed. It
did anger Zugnu to no end that when Therans made mention of the "village," it
was in reference to these magic-haters rather than the Grinning Skulls. Was
not the Grinning Skulls the one true village? Zugnu had yet to decide if that
meant he should kill the villagers, or everyone else who called it the
village.

Empire: Zugnu was not sure why, but Chief Garfuka waged a war against the
Empire. Zugnu had no feelings prior regarding the Empire, but he did not
question the Chief's orders. Furthermore, Zugnu was glad to have more enemies
to kill. He heard the powers of the Codex gave great strength in battle, and
he enjoyed testing his mettle against those who had taken the Oath.

Tribunal: Now the Spire, Zugnu hated with a passion. He hated how his passage
through Galadon was restricted, a law he took as a personal insult. He also
hated how the leaders of the Spire always seemed to be around when he
attacked in the cities, leading to his swift death and a taking of his
weapons. Another personal insult. Zugnu desired the destruction of the Spire,
and all those who resided within.

Chapter 4

The Adaptation, pt. II

Zugnu chose the Mundunugu adaptation for several reasons. Having seen the
outside world, he had seem many magics that he did not know had existed
prior. He saw mages shift into animals, and conjure up great elemental
creatures and demons. He saw the strength of supplications of paladins, and
the dehabilitating spells of the guild in direct opposition. For Zugnu, it
was an eye-opening experience, and it would be a lie to say he was not
jealous of such abilities, as the Grinning Skull orcs had no such skills.
Thus, he found himself drawn to the ways of the Mundunugu, the medicine man.
To conduct rituals, create fetishes, was that not orcish magic in its own
right?

Also, Zugnu was no follower. Though he had been interested in the Shig-ru's
of the village, he finally chose against it. He saw the eldest of the orcs
all as Shig-ru, and he did not want to be perceived as simply another orc
choosing such a path. Zugnu was his own orc.

Chapter 3

The Adaptation

Zugnu struggled through the dense and thorny underbrush, his eyes dilating in
delight as the thorns cut deep into his skin, drawing long arcs of blood. He
could tell he was nearing his destination, as the stench of blood of ash grew
and the sounds of wild animals faded. Finally, entering a small clearing, he
found what he sought: a crude hut, the smoke slowly rising from it indicating
a presence within.

Slowly opening the door, Zugnu entered, his eyes squinting to adjust to the
dim light within. Near the embers of a fire, he saw a crouched figure, back
turned to him.

"Zugnu uf duh villuge...wut duh yuh wunts heres?" asked the figure, who's
gravelly voice revealed a creature of great age.

"Meh hear yuh do rituals dat make yuh strunguh, meh wun lurn dem. Teach
mehs," said Zugnu.

"En why do yuh wunts tuh do dats? Meh hear yuh lyk smush pepuls. Why yuh nuh
lurn use heaviuh wepun? Or beh lyk chief, destroy duh will of duh foes?"
asked the creature.

"Nuh," snorted Zugnu. "Meh see duh outside wurlds, meh make corpses frum meh
foes. Lurn meh has intehrust in stealin powuh frum meh enemies. Meh wunt use
dem blud en dem body parts tuh make mehself strunguh!"

The creature did not respond, but instead carefully placed his hand within
the soot that surrounded the now almost-dead embers. Slowly, he grabbed a
handful of the ashes, and then before Zugnu could react, threw the soot into
Zugnu's face with lightning-quick reflexes, blinding him.

"Har! Yuh wunnuh becum lyk meh?! Lemmeh reveal tuh yuh duh powuh of duh
MUNDUNUGU!"

Chapter 2

Mindset

Such was the life of Zugnu. His lineage was considered one of the weakest,
his family, the poorest. The other orcs of his age always bullied him,
laughing at him as they would beat him up and leave him to bleed, with only
the flies for company. Anger began to seize the heart of the young orc, and
inside grew the desire to show the village of his strength. He began to
despise his father, who he thought was weak, and hated his mother, who had
faithfully stayed by his useless father. He yearned to grow stronger, bigger,
faster, and to take on anyone who implied of any weakness within him. Soon,
his rage began to identify him, and he learned to enjoy the blinding love to
beat up or kill those he perceived as weaker than him. Though he acknowledged
when others were stronger than him, his anger within would flare at such
truth.

Zugnu eventually began to venture outside of the village. Though his family
had been laughed at within the village, he believed that to be an orc was
better than to be any other race in Thera. The other races of Thera had to
acknowledge the supremacy of the orcs, and his realization that their belief
that orcs were a dirty and sub-class race enraged him. As such, he sought out
many of the other races as his prey, to show his strength and prowess. "Zugnu
WILL be feared," he thought. And such, was the mindset of the orc.

Chapter 1

The parade
Added Fri Mar 3 16:26:10 2017 at level 20:

"Dem orcum raiders beh backs!!"

Zugnu, just a child at the time, rushed out from his family's tent, which was
located in the poorest and dirtiest (if you really can compare) dwellings in
the Grinning Skulls village. Quickly traversing the rubbish that littered the
region, he ran towards the main path, revealing a parading line of orcs
returning from an attack on Akan. At the front were the strongest and
fiercest berserkers, wielding weapons of famous lineage and carrying the
scalps of their dwarven victims. He peered through the legs of the adults,
enviously watching as they grabbed sows of their choosing, whisking them off
to do whatever deeds they did behind closed curtains. As the parade of
horribles progressed, one could notice that the orcs that followed were
smaller, injured, and clearly of less interest to those who cheered.

Soon, the returning orcs begin to dwindle in number, and the crowd dispersed,
and all that was left were straggling orcs, hobbled in war. Yet Zugnu waited,
for his father had yet to return. At long last, he saw his father, crippled
and bleeding. Rushing to his side, he could hear the jeers of the other orcs
as they watched his father, laughing at his pitiful state. His father, upon
seeing Zugnu, shoved him aside, and slowly made his way back to their tent.

Upon arrival, his father collapsed on the floor as his wife began to tend to
his wounds. Looking at Zugnu, he said, "Meh weaks, nuh lyk duh udder orcs.
Dem laff at me, sneer at meh, dem beliddle meh. Dun beh lyk me, yuh beh
strung, yuh lurn tuh fite. Beh duh one dem fears." Such was the advice his
father gave upon each raid, and Zugnu took it to heart.
