Hallanaphas Swiftwater the Cagastric Culler of the Arcane, Commander of Battle
DescriptionThere is something certainly feral about this man. It goes beyond the sun darkened hue of his skin. It goes beyond the dirt that stains that skin or the leaves and twigs tangled into the lustrous, raven black mane of hair pulled behind his head to reveal sharp, pointed ears. An even still it goes beyond his quite obvious wood-elf heritage. It can truly only be described as something intangible, only attained by years of living wild and free just as the beasts of nature. His black eyes are hungry and observant as the wolf, his body is a continuous cord of taut muscle as the mountain lion and his stance is wary and ready to spring into action as the elk. The effect of all of this is a palpable, primal ambience radiating off of him that is further augmented by the light armors and weapons of the warrior worn all over his body.

56235, Hallanaphas's Role Chapter 8
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 8 Commander! Added Fri Aug 5 13:27:49 2016 at level 51:To his own great surprise, Hallanaphas has now found himself as Commander of the Village. In the past he was uncertain about taking on such a role within the Village. But now that it has been put on him he has found himself renewed with a sense of purpose and duty to rouse the Village and bring it to its former glory.
The Villages numbers in the past years have to have been some of the lowest in its history. Hallanaphas intends to do something about that. That being said, he will not sacrifice quality for numbers.
Ysaloerye told him he could choose his own Drillmaster. Izqi currently holds the position and hes always been fond of her and doesnt care that much to replace her but he needs performance to accomplish his goals. He will keep an eye on how she carries out her duties. Besides, as it is right now, there isnt a suitable replacement had he wanted to do so.
Despite the new found vigor in his mind for his new duties, his body still continues to wane. Considering the axe thats hung over his head all of his life with the toil on his body he has begun to feel like a dead man walking and he often chuckles over the irony in that. The irony being the greatest enemies of the Village, the greatest of all magi, the undead necromancers, literally are dead men walking and so to see a comparison between himself and that is just bizarre.

RoleChapter 7 War comes around Added Tue Jul 19 10:39:42 2016 at level 51:And yet again Hallanaphas finds himself fighting alongside a new Commander of the Village. Burwell is now the third Commander he has served under. He likes Burwells enthusiasm for his duty and is a much welcome change over the absentee term Llathe held.
Under Burwells leadership the Village once again wars with the Empire. Whatever his reasons are for doing this, Hallanaphas is not complaining. His earliest days were full of war with the Empire and they appear they will end this way.
The days of Hallanaphass life are waning down. He can feel his body start to give out. Perhaps this is what the prophecy referred to? It was not the act of one mage that will end his life, but, rather the toll over the course of many years from fighting many mages. How prophecy can be misread sometimes and the irony of the whole thing makes him chuckle. Had he not decided to join the war against magic and met his fate head on he would probably still be a youthful and healthy wood-elf with many centuries of life left. Oh well. He has no regrets over it. It has been a life worth living and it is not over yet.

56233, Hallanaphas's Role Chapter 6

RoleChapter 6 Surprises Added Fri May 27 15:18:39 2016 at level 51:Seasons and years have passed. Hallanaphas has joined the Village and grown to the pinnacle of his guild having along the way become a competent fighter and defender for the village, at least in his own eyes. There have been his failures but he at least made himself better for them and did not repeat them.
His depression over his exile from his tribe has lessened with the passage of time. More important matters have taken hold of his attention, such as the war on magic. With that lessening of depression has slowed his need for drinking. He still carries the drink and will tie one on here and there but often finds himself too busy to think about getting hammered.
He has found his time with the Village to have many surprises. He never thought he would see a war with the Tribunal, yet, that came to pass. He did not oppose the war. His chaotic nature and preference for the wilderness aside, he did not like the abuse of power to the detriment of the Village he saw from the Provost. The war was short lived, however, as the Provost could not reconcile his actions towards the village and his duties as Provost and was removed from his position.
Hallanaphas has marveled over just how much things change and how quickly they do, more surprises. Truly a testament to the chaotic nature of life. He thought his life as a Village would be short assuming the prophecy regarding his death would come sooner, rather than later, yet, here he still is. Amazingly, he has outlived many Villagers who were around when he first was allowed to build his hut. That is truly astonishing to him.
The Village is quiet these days. The Commander who gave him the right to build a hut passed on some time ago, and aside from his kin, LLathe, the Village has been leaderless. There were several Villagers he expected to compete for leadership but, again to his surprise, many of them have deserted the Village, either on extended trips or simply having passed on in to the next life. In fact, it is rare that Hallanaphas sees any of his fellow Villagers these days. Disturbingly rare. Hallanaphas never considered himself for leadership but with the Village in such a seemingly dire position he wonders if it his duty to think otherwise. That thought though is often quickly dismissed, since he will be kept away from the Rites and it will be most difficult for him to attend. He only hopes that someone will rise to take Command and help bring the Village back to strength.

56232, Hallanaphas's Role Chapter 5

RoleChapter 5 Who Hallanaphas Is Added Sun Apr 17 15:16:49 2016 at level 21:Hallanaphas was crushed by the whole situation. Not only was he partly responsible for the death of his tribes people he had been exiled from his home. Falling into a deep depression he left the tribe and wandered on his own. That depression soon turned to anger and that anger festered and cultivated into a devil may care attitude. His anger at magic, most especially necromancy, began to turn hot and into hatred. He knew that magic would kill him but he did not care after all he had suffered. He decided he was going to meet it head on and take some magi with him. The sooner death ends his suffering the better.
Hallanaphas would hone his warrior skills and join the war against magic. He would meet his fate head on. His attitude makes him a bit reckless at times as he will feel like a dead man walking. He harbors a special hate for necromancy.
Hallanaphas also is quite chaotic of nature. He was used to living free in the wilds off the land. And because of that he is uncomfortable in civilized areas.
His hopes are to join the Battleragers as a defender. He wishes to be a defender so he can cure magical diseases and prevent himself for being responsible for spreading the deadly plague again. He is also afraid of losing his mind to rage again like he did that day in the glade. For that rage kicked off the horrible chain of events that led him to this point. His personality is morose and blue. Any sense of humor he has is always tinted with depression. He also likes to drink to numb his pain.

RoleChapter 4 The Exile Added Sun Apr 17 15:14:39 2016 at level 21:Taking wooden sticks of equal length, each made from the wood of a different type of tree, he tossed the rods to the ground and bent down to examine them. Each type of wood was symbolic of something and how they fell in relation to each other could be analyzed to predict the answer to a question. As the chief looked over the rods he cast for his son he felt an intense sinking feeling at what he saw. He saw death and much of it.
The rod representing death had fallen crosswise at an angle over all of the other rods representing other aspects of his future and ended with the western pointing end touching the rod symbolizing magic. Not only was death everywhere in his sons future but magic would be the cause of his death.
Looking up at his son sadly, he pronounced the divination and his judgment. In order to further protect the tribe from this future full of death his son was to be exiled.

RoleChapter 3 The Rods Added Sun Apr 17 15:10:27 2016 at level 21:By the time Hallanaphas dispatched the zombie deer and returned to his village, he was slick with a cold sweat, pale and near complete exhaustion. Hallanaphas was able to relay his message and the story of what befell him in the forest to his father before collapsing into unconsciousness.
The next morning while Hallanaphas was still in the throes of the illness, the guards from Evermoon arrived to join up with the warriors from the Swift Waters Tribe and they all left to confront the loggers. Two days later when Hallanaphas finally broke through his fever he awoke to find his Village a very different place. And then he was called before his father and the entire Tribe of the Swift Waters.
Upon arriving Hallanaphas noticed that it was not quite the entire Tribe, but only about half of the members. None of them looked pleased to see Hallanaphas. Confused, Hallanaphas began to ask his father what was going on but was just ordered to be silent. His father, grim-faced, then began to tell him how the illness he had contracted had been contagious and spread throughout the Village that first night. Many were infected and began to get ill. Many warriors who left to confront the loggers were infected without realizing it until they entered into battle. Most of those warriors died in that battle, lacking the strength to fight. To add further horror, many young children and elderly people of the tribe had also died from the illness. He had brought plague to the village and it had cost the lives of many of his tribal people. The people who were left were angry and demanded punishment of Hallanaphas. Some called for death, while others exile. His father, being chief had to decide.
The chief was utterly shamed over the whole situation. Had his son obeyed his instructions as he was told none of this would have happened. Yet, he loved his son and it broke his heart to give in to the demands of the tribe. So, he came up with a solution. Being Chief he was practiced in a divination art called casting rods. It was customary for the Chief to resort to the rods when confronted by vexing problems such as this, and so he declared he would cast the rods to determine the fate of his son.

RoleChapter 2 The Robed Figure Added Sun Apr 17 15:08:06 2016 at level 21:In the middle of the forest, Hallanaphas, who was running fast, came suddenly upon a small glade. In the glade stood a dark robed figure surrounded by the corpses of forest animals. Halting quickly before he burst into the glade, Hallaphanas took measure of the figure and the situation from the trees without being noticed. The figure stood crouched over the corpse of a deer in the middle of the glade and was working on the body in a way that looked peculiar to Hallanaphas. The man was clearly not field dressing the deer but doing something else to the body. Looking around at the rest of the corpses, Hallanaphas noticed that they all had been horribly destroyed in some manner. The whole scene immediately set Hallanaphas on edge. His anger began to rise. This person was obviously doing something harmful and unnatural to the forest creatures. However, remembering his fathers command not to delay he pushed down the anger and decided that his priority was to return the message in all haste. He would have to leave this awful person to continue with whatever atrocities he was committing.
Just as Hallanaphas began to rise to leave, the figure began to chant and wave his hands over the deer carcass. The voice was a deep baritone, identifying the figure as male. The chanting caught the attention of Hallanaphas and made him hesitate in his departure. The man chanted for a few moments and then suddenly the deer carcass stirred and began to standup while the robed man cackled loudly in an expression of some sort of maniacal form of joy. Necromancy! That explains this all. The man had been practicing his necromancy on these forest creatures.
Losing all control of his temper Hallanaphas pulled out his bone knife and burst through into the glade, charging the man. Caught off guard the man shrieked in alarm as Hallanaphas closed the distance and caught him with a glancing blow from his knife. The man, unprepared for such an assault, turned and fled before any more damage could be done. As he fled he turned and waved a hand in a gesture at Hallanaphas and uttered a word of power. Hallanaphas staggered briefly as a sickening feeling washed over his body. By the time he managed to recover his balance the robed man was gone, leaving Hallanaphas to deal with the undead deer.

RoleChapter 1 The Decision Added Sun Apr 17 15:05:49 2016 at level 21:In a glade near the banks of the river Nanthor, the chief of the wood-elf tribe commonly known as the Tribe of the Swift Waters called his son, Hallanaphas, over to him. The chief instructed his son that he is to carry an important message to the monarchs in Evermoon Hollow. A group of Udgaardians had come far down river and appeared to have begun a logging operation. It was extremely important that Hallanaphas travel swiftly to Evermoon, deliver the message and return with an answer on how much support the Tribe could expect from Evermoon in dealing with this threat. The threat must be dealt with promptly before the logging operation progresses and destroys too much forest and homeland to the wood-elves. Hallanaphas was strictly ordered not to stop or make any delays, for the problem was that important and time sensitive.
Hallanaphas did as he was told and ran swiftly to Evermoon and delivered his message. He received a reply that Evermoon would be sending a contingent of warriors as soon as they could be mustered to assist the Tribe. The Tribe was to wait on the reinforcements from Evermoon before confronting the loggers.
Hallanaphas left Evermoon immediately and began the trek back through the forests to relay the message to his father. Trying to save time on the return trip, Hallanaphas veered off the well-traveled forest path and took a short cut. It was that fateful decision that would change his life forever.
