Quintalius vas Antian the Spectre, Magistrate of Hamsah Mu'tazz
DescriptionStanding at just over six feet in height this man carries himself with regal grace. He stands with perfect posture and all of his clothing and lightly plated armor appears to be polished, pressed and kept in a pristine condition. His clean-shaven face is youthful and handsome with delicate features. Those, coupled with his ashen skintone alludes to a mixed heritage. His eyes are a deep mix of blue and grey and lend him a serious, uncompromising demeanor. His hair is white, devoid of any color at all. It is well-kept and trimmed back to expose his ears which come to a slight point, further evidence of his blood.
Upon the center of his breastplate is a large crest of an Owl perched on a branch, it's eyes dead and staring forward. Beneath the owl shaded into the wood is written: "VIGILANCE - VENGEANCE - VICTORY".

55969, Quintalius's Role Chapter 9

RoleChapter 9 (NOTES) Middle Aged Progress Added Wed Jun 22 05:32:52 2016 at level 36:Quintalius has been a constant presence in the Spire yet he feels like he is being intentionally held back by the Provost, a Paladin of a hostile faith. He currently schemes ways to obtain the power he believes he deserves (both in action and in terms of birthright) without declaring open hostilities to the present leadership of the Spire. In this quest he has aligned himself with the other dark elements of the Spire, most notably Velenkoth who like himself was born under the stars of Reason and seeks a similar, stronger Blood Tribunal.
In addition to Velenkoth he has made (or in many cases: bought) numerous other allies in the Empire. He feels that the thief Tanith, the Priestess Decima, the Priests Selszar and Iarphine, both men of Reason themselves are all prime candidates to join the Brimstone Society and he will begin approaching them individually. He maintains a strong alliance with the Empire as a whole as he fears he may be pushing his luck in the Spire in his moves against Selionar. He sees the oath as secondary means to accomplishing his goals should he push too far.
To this aim he is very vocal about praising the Emperor and his council as being the cornerstone of civilization. But deep down he sees the Empire as subservient to the Spire. He sees the Law as the true force of Order in the lands. His promises to bring the Spire under the Imperial Banner are mostly hollow as he envisions a world in which the Emperor will bend knee to the Provost. A world in which the Provost is more than just a civil servant but rather a King.
He has mastered every spell taught to him in his guild as he pushes through toward his Becoming. This thought consumes him night and day. He wil not let anything come between him and his destiny: to rule Thera for eternity.

55968, Quintalius's Role Chapter 8

RoleChapter 8 (STORY) A Letter Home Added Wed Jun 22 05:12:54 2016 at level 36:Dearest Mother,
It has been many years. Word reached me of father's illness and subsequent passing. I meant to make it home for the funeral pyre but duty can be a very strict mistress. Even stricter than you.
I've moved my post from Seantryn Modan to the Sultanate of Hamsah Mu'tazz. I find the desert kingdom to be far more fitting for a man of my birth. I believe our beloved Provost, a Knight of the Jaguar, sought to keep me as far away from the upper rungs of the Spire as possible for I rotted in the South for many years. Perhaps he sees in me the same darkness that you did. Perhaps he fears me in the same way you do. Perhaps he attempted to send me away. Just as you did?
I am not bitter, Mother. In many ways you've set me free. Our small, mountain kingdom was never suitable for a man of my amibitions. While it and it's rich lumber supply may be appealing for the fifth born cast away of a lesser House of Teth Azeleth, to me it is nothing more than an after thought. For we are much alike, Mother. But we are also very different. You needn't fear me for you have nothing I desire.
Now with that being said I will part with a word of warning: I have seen your assassins lurking in the South and now here in the Sultanate. If they should make an attempt upon my life you may rest assured I will come home. I will bring with me an army of your undead assassins. I will bring with me soldiers from the mighty Empire, who could surely use your crop. I will bring with me representatives of the Twin Honors and civilization as a whole. And then, Mother, I will flay you and my sisters on the very redwood that built our name. I will do this to the cheers and adorations of your subjects.
As I said, Mother: we are very much alike. Do not test me. I remember the Three V's as well as any vas Antian.
*stamped with the sigil of an Owl perched on a branch* *stamped with the seal of the Blood Tribunal* Eternally yours, Quintalius vas Antian Magistrate of Hamsah Mu'tazz

55967, Quintalius's Role Chapter 7
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 7 (NOTES) Dark Ambitions Added Mon Jun 6 08:35:29 2016 at level 1:Quintalius has the following immediate and long term goals:
I) To join the Spire as instructed by his father. To learn their ways and to find a means by which to manipulate them in order to help him obtain greatness.
II) To master all forms of necromancy so that he might better understand the dark arts to aid him in his Becoming which is his highest aspiration. He saw how his father fought his whole life for a Throne that he is now too old and frail to enjoy. Quintalius will conquer death first and then he will claim his lands and titles for all time.
III) Quintalius has created a secret order he refers to as The Brimstone Society. This society is a pan-orderly group of Thera's elite. He seeks to find Dark and Orderly members from the Theran cabals to initiate into his Order. From this secret society they will seek to bring the pillars of the civilized world closer together. Quintalius foresees a day when it will be the Brimstone Society, not the Imperial Council, who chooses will be Emperor. When the council members are nothing more than Societal puppets. When it will be the Society who writes the songs sung in the Inn and not the woodland bards. When the Spire will choose it's Provost based on the Society's nominations.
The name of this group extends from the fact that they will meet near the Hells. For Quintalius sees them as the ideal model: a top-down, tiered, strict society led by a single Master. This location is so close that the scent of sulphur lingered in the air and stuck to Quintalius when he returned to mainlands. This scent will be the only clue to the collusion of the Society and it's members for anyone who speaks of the club to non-members will be culled until they dwell within the hells and not just near them.
IV) Quintalius seeks to earn the favor of Lord Destuvius and intends to write about many of the above principles in order to demonstrate his abilities as both a leader and a supplicant.

RoleChapter 6 (NOTES) Quintalius vas Antian Added Mon Jun 6 08:34:38 2016 at level 1:VII) Everything he has he learned from his parents. While he respects his father he sees weakness in him. For example he was not smart enough to see that the forest fire that ruined the vas Antian family in Kartalius' youth was obviously started by the Drows and not the other famillies who needed that lumber as much as the outside world. He was played by Vexesia and played well. Quintalius knew this for even though they did not get along he was very much like his mother and it is what he would have done in that situation. He has inherited many skills from her that are sure to aid him on his path to greatness.

55965, Quintalius's Role Chapter 5
Posted by Death_Angel on Wed 31-Dec-69 07:00 PM
RoleChapter 5 (NOTES) Quintalius vas Antian Added Mon Jun 6 08:33:51 2016 at level 1:Psychological traits of note:
I) Quintalius was born under the sphere of Reason. It governs and shapes every aspect of his life. He is devoid of a normal range of human emotions and instead relies purely on what is advantangeous. If he were to be defined in simple terms they would be: cold, calculating and ambitious.
II) Quintalius is an evil and orderly soul. He feels anything less is outside the realm of Reason. He feels that civilization is a magical evolution. It's why savages, like the other houses of his homeland, shun magic. They fear the progress of civilization and the creation of a world where Reason and it's raw cunning governs over savagery and mindless, brute strength.
III) Quintalius abides by the motto of his family: VIGILIANCE - VENGEANCE - VICTORY. The "Three V's" are quite simple to him, in line with his views on Reason and the foundation of his own sense of superiority: Vigilance because great men watch all things. Much like the owl they see what happens even out of sight. They see the whole board, not just the moving peice. Vengeance because a vas Antian never forgets his enemies nor forgives their trespasses. Victory because adherence to these laws results in dominance. This obsession has made him obsessed with war and his approach to it may make him seem more like a General than a mage. He defers to no one when it comes to battle or political tactics. This arrogance could get him in trouble as his plans become more complicated and situations more convoluted.
IV) It is this lust for dominance that has brought Quintalius to the worship of Lord Destuvius and the Twin Honors. He was first introduced to the faith from a Drow solider serving his mother and then again after settling in Galadon. He desires to prove himself to the Lord and to become the ideal Destuvian.
V) He conducts himself as a noble with little respect for the peasants of the realm. He carries himself with authority, even when he lacks it, and views a potential post within the Spire as coming with the correct amount of influence over civilization. He writes well and speaks eloquently. He will never allow himself to be lowered to the standards of the rest of the realm. He will do everything within his power to be a feared as his ancestors were.
VI) Quintalius admires all things magical. Since coming to the mainlands he has taken up the trade of the necromancer as he finds the power over the dead to be as appealing as power over the willing. Within the dead he finds the ideal slaves. Those who are eternally loyal. Those who would never betray their betters. He loathes the Village of BattleRagers and Fortress of Light and will do anything to ensure their destruction. He has a kinship with the Empire and while he is destined for the Spire he will seek to craft a close series of alliances with the worthy of the Imperial ranks.

55964, Quintalius's Role Chapter 4

RoleChapter 4 (STORY) The Red Coronation Added Mon Jun 6 08:32:29 2016 at level 1:What followed was a great feast in the Redwood Hall, the home of the vas Antian family. The new noble houses toasted their victory and then choked on their wine. Each poisoned by their host. Those who did not drink were easily cut down by a mix of Antian bannermen and Drow warriors. Over the next many days there were public displays of execution. Men were hung from the trees on every path, one on each side, spaced dozens of feet apart. Each had a sign around their neck with their crime. Each signed by the House of vas Antian. The forest and mountain trails stunk of rotting flesh weeks. A scent that Quintalius remembers fondly. The smell of Victory.
There would be no council vote. There would be no council. Kartalius became King of Westallia. Now an old and feeble man, his wife waiting patiently to inherit his place. Perched on a tree not like the vas Antian owl but rather like a vulture. She loved her daughters but feared her own son. For as in Drow culture it was the man's place behind the women but she knew Quintalius had the same drive and ambition as his father. So she did the next best thing. She manipulated Kartalius into sending the boy away. To the mainlands where he would represent the Western Kingdoms as it's official emissary. He was told to seek the Blood Tribunal, to learn the ways of Order and to bring civilization back to the West.
With her son on his way to a life long service to foreign cities Vexesia felt comfortable in her plans. More and more Drow began to move into the mountains of the kingdom. The humans realized what had happened but it was too late. Their representative republic had been replaced with a cruel dictatorship. They now understood why their ancestors had feared the House of vas Antian.

RoleChapter 3 (STORY) The War of the Four Families Added Mon Jun 6 08:31:42 2016 at level 1:Kartalius' wife, the Drow known as Vexesia, was no stranger to politics. She had seen how her mother and sisters did "business" and understood the patience that was necessary. While Kartalius was a stern and calculating man he had nothing on his bride. Her plan was simple: push the man to conquer and then simply out live him. Human life was not even a season for the Drow. She'd just help him plant the seeds and then reap the harvest long after he turned to ash. So she taught him as well, how to scheme and to deceive. She convinced him of her love and bore him a series of children. One boy and three girls whom she taught as well.
Our story centers around their son named Quintalius. He was a young boy when the Westallian civil war began. He would be a young man before it was through. As he aged and was educated everything in his life was shaped by this war. He saw brothers killing brothers. Cousins killing cousins. Each sworn to different noble families. But it would not be this brutal warfare that would end the struggle. But rather the shrewd political prowess of Vexesia.
In each quarter of the Kingdom she dispatched her Drowish spies to assassinate figures of note and also to spy on the culture of the Kingdom. What they found was that each had peasant-born families of wealth and prominence who were fighting the war as bannermen for the other "vas" clans. Each were approached and promised nobility if they would turn on the governing families of their district. And so vas Tendall family fell first, not to the vas Antian's but to the Thorwell's, their own bannermen, who moved into their great oak hall and became the House of vas Thorwell.
The new nobility joined in the conquest against the mountains and soon the vas Elrick family fell to their own bannermen as well. And then the last of the mountain holdouts, the vas Kamplin's met their bloody end. But not due to treachery, their bannermen died bravely at their sides, they were simply undone by finding that honor comes with a heavy cost when no one else obeys the tenets of loyalty.

55962, Quintalius's Role Chapter 2

RoleChapter 2 (STORY) Outside Influence Added Mon Jun 6 08:30:43 2016 at level 1:Historically speaking the House of vas Antian was the most profitable. During the last Age the Antian's supplied the mainlands with some of the most sought after redwood and wooden charms. For you see, the Antians were and are the only family willing to dabble in magic. This led to them being the outsiders, often with the other three families voting against them. It also made them the most feared. Their sigil was of an Owl, much like the one's found in their woods, perched on a tree limb with the words "Vigilance, Vengeance, Victory" beneath it. This was symbolic of the family's dedication to the political dance of crowns. It is said they were the first family to to develop a distinctly red aura.
The influence of the vas Antian family has been threatened in this Age due to a series of forest fires that Kartalius, Patron of the House, believed had been started by one if not all of the other families. With their forests charred and many of their subjects dead from fighting the flames Kartalius feared it would be a several more generations before the vas Antian family was returned to prominence.
Unwilling to simply accept this reality Kartalius did something that would forever change Westallia. The desperate Kartalius accepted an offer he had declined just a year prior. An offer to marry an outsider. A purely political marriage. An arrangement with the Drow.
This was seen as heresy by the other noble families. But Kartalius did not care. He was married to the fifth daughter of one of the Matron's of a lesser-yet-noble House and in exchange for gold and the Drowish trade routes through the western Underdark he promised a healthy percentage of his lumber once the forest returned to vibrancy.
While the House of vas Antian was restored to prominence it was also more exposed than it had ever been before. There was a war coming to the Western Kingdom.

RoleChapter 1 (STORY) The Western Kingdom Added Mon Jun 6 08:29:56 2016 at level 1:At the furthest western reaches, just beyond the explored world there exists a Kingdom known as Westallia. This Kingdom has long been home to xenophobic, mountain and valley dwelling humans. Largely sheltered from the politics and warfare of the mainlands Westallia became rich through both the trade of lumber and ore. Splitting it's cultural catalysts almost equally between miners and lumberjacks. As Westallia passed through the Ages an organic sort of nobility began to arise. Four families, two from the high mountains and two from the deep forests would emerge. Each taking the prefix of "vas" to their name to denote their noble standing.
From the mountains came the House of vas Elrick and the House of vas Kamplin. From the valley came the Houses of vas Tendall and vas Antian. The above shared the Kingdom in quarters with each sending representatives to a council. These representatives would "elect" a King but his title was largely ceremonial. Nothing moved forward in Westallia without the council's approval.
This led to underhanded politics that steadily moved the noble family's bloodline further and further toward red auras as the Ages went. By the Fifth Age all four clans were bloodthirsty and vile. Driven only by varying degrees of greed and a lust for power.
