Description

Rather short woman is before you, her blue eyes the only distinct feature
on the rather unremarkable face. Come to think of it, with a normal looking
figure, there does not seem much too special about her.
The hair is cut short, the arms don't seem to be bulging, and only
the somewhat crouching impression she exhumes with her posture hints
at some kind of combat ability, albeit it's not clear exactly what.

Of expectations and reality

The life seemed so easy sometime ago, simple really.
If the desire of the little girl is to destroy, it will be destroyed and
she will be the Mistress of Destruction. However, it is not that simple.
Yes, Nkata survived and mostly prospered against odds, but the world
is more complicated that her role in it. It proved to be very hard to
just mindlessly destroy people, especially with the need to keep the forces in check.
Thus, one sort of failing has become upon her, the failing of being feared.

However, a different sort of success was found unexpectedly at the same time.
Nkata is well-respected among the other island dwellers and has found her life
more fulfilling in not destroying, but things like actually tending to the veil,
even though it provides no bonus for herself at all.
Also, as things have evolved and became more complicated, it has become far
more easier to just trust people and work together with them to acquire the riches.
Of course, it never feels bad to produce a fresh corpse when a situation warrants for it.
Just that, now, Nkata feels it has to be justified. Life has happened.

Chapter 1

Walker of a thin line

Nkata feels that morals are for the weaker-minded folk, as she will find
indifferent towards the notions of Good or Evil. All are Good at some point,
and all are Evil at some other point towards someone. It's just a thinly
veiled excuse that people develop in order to justify hating on each other.

Hate is not something a true shadowy Mistress of Destruction can afford to harbor.
For Nkata, who was born and raised in the seedy part of Galadon, along the
River road, and seen many, many die for nothing, sometimes valiantly, it has become
prudent to look after herself and preserve the world that she does know and learnt
to navigate. In order to be successful, she seeks to destroy. Not because she seeks
any pleasure or particular riches, but because she must be feared. And if she's feared,
chances are, she won't be surprised. And if she's not surprised, she'll live.

If a force sways far to one side, it can sweep away her advantage in staying
indifferent. Thus she above all else will seek to correct the forces if something
holds sway too deeply, lest Nkata becomes a victim of that force.
Not particularly strong or smart, Nkata has made thieving her life.
Easy it is on the mind, easy it is on the fist, and stay in the shadows she
forever could, seeking that opportunity to strike suddenly and lethally.
